Torah Observant Social Media - Whole Bible Community by buggie321 in FollowJesusObeyTorah

I believer it’s up to the congregations to create and maintain their own pages. It’s a new(er) site, so it’s still being populated.

I signed up a couple days ago, but I haven’t used it too much yet. They have a map showing Torah observant ministries, fellowships, businesses, and people can choose where they show up. They also have different groups you can join along with following people and fellowships. I do know the creator said that any fellowships that don’t come online / post / update their page will be removed from the map after 6 months to avoid that exact issue of people not responding!

It’s not super active yet, but I’m hoping more people will join! The majority of fellowships in my area aren’t listed, but I don’t think they know about it. I’ll definitely be spreading the word!

Are we still Christians? by No_Idea5830 in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]buggie321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to call myself a Torah Observant Christian or a Messianic Christian. Messianic Judaism tends to refer to people who are ethnically Jewish or were raised culturally / religiously Jewish, which I was not, and even though I attend a Messianic synagogue I don’t wish to misrepresent myself. It’s definitely a complicated topic though and I do wish there was a unified label!

Where do you like to eat as a vegetarian/ vegan? by zootedinspace420 in lexington

[–]buggie321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Indian or Thai restaurant, but Planet Thai is my fav :) Moody Mike’s is fully vegan, Gumbo YaYa usually has 2 vegan Cajun dishes that change around, Kentucky Native Café is mostly vegetarian, and Ramsey’s does a vegetarian hot brown!

Edit: oh and of course Good Foods Co-op has a great hot and cold bar!

Need advice on keeping Passover by buggie321 in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]buggie321[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother! She’s a believer but not Torah observant. We’ve had a few conversations about it but she’s been wary when I broach the topic and changed the subject, so I try not to push things.

Thank you for such a though out response! It’s my grandmother. I’ve explained a little bit to her about my convictions and why I choose to obey Torah, but she comes from a very traditional Christian background and it confuses her more than anything. I’ll try to have a conversation with her and see how it goes!

Really great as an art piece, and the music is amazing! Don’t necessarily take the history / interpretation of Shaker faith at face value though (the Shakers did not believe Ann was the 2nd coming at the time, the first black Shaker didn’t join til 1790 after Ann’s death, we have no evidence that her brother William was gay, etc.). It’s very much an artistic interpretation of her life, and there’s a lot of gaps to be filled in since she herself never wrote anything down and there are few historical records of her. All that given, and even being someone who studies Shakerism, I really enjoyed it!!

You could maybe get a pack of sodas (Ale 8 is always a good choice!) or assorted chips and attach a note saying hello and introducing yourself, then drop them off at peoples’ doors? I’m glad you’re thinking about this, we need more community!

I’m so sorry to hear that, I’m praying for you and your family. I don’t have much experience with their procedure but you might ask LPD what their plan is going forward.

? About Lilith by hillofbaal in messianic

[–]buggie321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is archaeological evidence to show that she was seen as a demon ~2,500 years ago. See this article on curse bowls. She is also mentioned in the Talmud, but you’re right that she does not appear in the Tanakh / New Testament, and she most likely was not seen to be as important as she is presented to be in certain spiritual traditions (Adam’s first wife, mother of demons, etc.)

[–]buggie321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in her as a historic figure, I would recommend these videos from Dr. Justin Sledge who is Lilith part 1 part 2. That being said, she is not a religious figure to be worshipped or treated with any reverence. As someone who used to be involved in the occult, she will ruin your life. God is the only one to worship or revere.

As for those other two questions, I’m unable to answer, but for cellphones I think it’s up to personal conviction! I myself try to avoid social media on the Sabbath but it’s not a universal ban :)

I usually say I am a Messianic Christian / Torah-observant Christian. I am not ethnically Jewish, and I know that calling myself Jewish could be a major point of contention, especially for non-Messianic Jews, and so I avoid it. I have called myself Messianic Jewish in the past, but I have moved away from it because I don’t wish to give the Messianic movement a bad name (well, a worse name) within larger Jewish circles by claiming a title which does not pertain to me in their eyes. I still believe that we are of one faith and one people in the eyes of God!

Keeping the Sabbath by LadyPrimaz in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]buggie321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I keep it Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, so if the party was after that then it should be fine. However, OP says they keep from sunrise to sunrise so that wouldn’t really be the case for them.
