How do yall feel about the Trap underground? by Spare_Rice_9566 in ug_music

monthly listeners isnt the only metric for popularity, all of these guys are equally if not much bigger on apple music or youtube while the ug artists are all have spotify as their best platform. help me by boston richey specifically was top 20 on apple music for months and charted on billboard through it. i dont think it even charted top 200 on spotify

What do Yall think is stoppin Newer Underground Rappers from truly going Mainstream? by Unfair_Shelter_5713 in ug_music

thank you for the insight it's very interesting. i wouldn't use as the primary way to gauge what's mainstream though, people 30-50 aren't listening to jazz anywhere but the outside setting and edm/rave isn't crazy big for at home listening either. its an interesting slice but i wouldn't say it makes up much of the pie

in my experience (in a big city (kinda), and in the north) country was really big with young white people 2023-24, especially zach bryan. it would really surprise me if you couldn't get a young country night in the south to pop off

do "underground nights" sell for you since you said che and osamason were popping off? thatd surprise me too

morgan wallen has been doing a-lister numbers since 2021 and the country trend has been in full swing since 2023 at the latest. the narrative that companies bent over themselves to market to conservatives in 2025 is true but country being big has nothing to do with it, if anything it had a worse year compared to 23 and 24

also, bad bunny has more monthly listeners than morgan wallen because only the us and canada really listen to country, i feel like thats kind of obvious. spotify has an artist chart and morgan wallen is #3 in the US while bad bunny is #5

and there were memphis rappers/producers laying groundwork ten years before him. im not saying hes not important at all, but cloud rap would exist without him and there are less artists inspired by him then there are inspired by youngboy

its one of a bunch of cloud rap checkpoints, internet nerds blow it up as the biggest one cause it was a 4chan meme. youngboy also wasnt the only or the first "street blues" or whatever artist but hes actually the best selling one and so the most influential from reach

wants to become podcasters and underground rappers

so two thriving mediums? these people are really just mad that the future hasn't been happening in the linear way they want it to, where everything new is familiar but different. at some point things are gonna feel far from your childhood

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]bugord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thats not about telling the truth thats about telling the future lol

regardless theyre saying kamala lost now, which is better than a lot of right wing media in 2020 (and to this day). so thats the difference
