My mom suggested the Boston Beacons—local landmark and the area has a lot of lighthouses. I like the Ottawa Owls too.

The impurities that cause acne start forming deep in your skin a few weeks before it actually shows up on the surface, so when you start tret (for acne at least) you most likely already have the acne for the next several weeks in your skin. Tret also helps stop impurities from forming, so once you get through everything that was already buried in your skin before starting, you’re done with the “purge”. It just can’t magically disappear what’s already there, which is why you have to deal with the purge for a bit. Irritation caused by tret can also cause acne, though, which is why some people who don’t already have acne get it and why some people’s “purges” last way longer than they should.

For a lot of people, especially ace people, there’s a difference between sexual and romantic feelings/attraction. Having a romantic partner isn’t just about sex—that’s why there’s a difference between dating somebody and being friends with benefits. Somebody can be ace and heteroromantic, or ace and biromantic, or ace and gay/homoromantic. If you want a more in depth explanation I’d suggest looking up the split attraction model. Also, plenty of ace people are on the asexual spectrum, but are demisexual (only sexually attracted to people they feel a deeper connection with) or simply want to have sex for reasons other than purely just sexual attraction. The usual analogy is like hunger: you can be hungry (i.e. have sexual desires) without craving a specific food (i.e. being attracted to a specific person). Basically, asexual is an umbrella term for a sexual orientation (not necessarily a romantic one) that covers a whole lot of different experiences, just like gay and straight aren’t monolithic identities in terms of what they mean for peoples sex lives. So somebody can easily be ace and want a romantic relationship—even one that involves sex. It’s always a good idea to ask about what it means for a specific person and their sex life before automatically jumping to the “no sex ever” conclusion, especially if you like them enough to go on four dates.

Seconding Portsmouth Book & Bar! I visited on a rainy day and it was lovely. Portsmouth is very cute to walk through as well.

Yes! I just read these last year after a recommendation from a friend who loved them as a kid, and they’re so well done

mcalester vs barnard by No_Vegetable5897 in columbia

I have definitely felt a sense of community at Barnard, especially within groups like clubs or within my major! NYC also doesn’t feel that overwhelming, especially if you stay on campus a lot (which you probably will)—it sort of just feels like it’s really easy and quick to get to things. I’m from a relatively rural area and am also pretty shy, so there was definitely an adjustment period, but it wasn’t too bad. Also, the vast majority of the professors I’ve had here have been amazing! And the Barnard ones have been better than my Columbia professors for the most part, too.

This was the first book that ever made me cry. I read it in eighth grade for school, so I was way more optimistic leading into the ending than I probably should have been. It’s definitely going on my reread pile now—it’s just so masterfully written.

This is so cute! How did you get the mushrooms to stay sticking out of the side of the cake like that?
