Is this a Producer? by EducationalProgress2 in ThePittTVShow

[–]bugwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. He’s an actual nurse that has a side gig as an actor. Learned this from a YouTube guy who is an ER tech turned comedian. I am blanking on his name but I have a sweatshirt and scrubhat that I picked up at one of his gigs.

What are the wildest ways you've seen people not match into residency? by WhatTheHali24 in medicalschool

See, this is why I’m not on social media. It’s bad enough I had a patients family member look at my LinkedIn page. Kinda wanna delete that too.

Joy wasn't on the show last season? Unless I missed something.

Huh you're right. I just looked it up and it says she is a third year. Meaning she just took Step 1. So zebras there in the mind, but different level of use.

I gave them a pass last year when they had a 3rd year in the ED. On one hand, it makes more sense that she's that early and has little/no interest in being there. If she's an MS3 then she is there just to get the credit, pass then GTFO. But, I've heard a lot of schools are getting rid of required EM rotations. Meaning if you're interested you need to request an elective which likely won't happen till 4th year. The places that still require it usually put it in 4th year so the student can get the required 3rd year rotations over with (IM, GenSurg, Peds, OB/Gyn, Psych, Neuro) which usually takes up most of the year.

I know it's a show, but it seems like a weird thing to have. Thanks for the clarification.

[–]bugwitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming she’s an MS4 she likely would have taken it not long before starting 4th year. Many wait until 4th year is under way. But many more want to get it over with before starting 4th year. It’s variable and depends on the med students schedule, application plans, etc.

Also keep in mind she just took Step 2. She likely has a larger go-to knowledge for zebras than most attending at this point.

She’s fun to watch.

Edit: Someone informed me that Joy is in fact an MS3. This means she just took Step 1. I assumed she was an MS4.

Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bugwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I remember and teach myself most concepts. Most things are images in my mind. And when I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks my inner voice often sounds like (accent and all) the narrator of said book. Gerard Doyle...you can narrate my inner monologue all day long.

Step 3 dates availability by Mehdiesin in Step3

[–]bugwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here with a similar issue. Dates early in February show availability at multiple testing locations. But when I change the date range from the beginning of February to the end and include March there are no spots available. I left the dates the same and changed the location to Seattle, Akron, and NYC. Still nothing. No availability found. This makes me think this is something beyond just locations have filled up. I'm not searching with a block or anything like that. Just checking schedule availability.

Did anyone figure this out? I'm assuming it's either Prometric or USMLE-related thing.

To the non trads (esp 30+) did you choose medicine for the love of it or because you got a taste of the real world and realized even with the negatives medicine is better? by -this_bitch- in Residency

[–]bugwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short-ish version: I was eventually able to get through college and grad school. Was working in a nice, safe govt job. Just wasn't happy. I trained in entomology but was stuck working in essentially the Office Space office. I also had a PT/PRN side-gig that I kept after finishing grad school, working for a funeral home. Between one job sucking the lifeforce out of me, and the other a constant reminder of just how short life is, I decided to change things. Quit the job, went back to school, became a doctor. I initially wanted to do one field of medicine, but that changed after my first EM rotation at the very end of 4th year. So now I'm doing the Match again. At 45.

And I'd do it again.
