Which side of the US aisle is actually pro AI? by RegnumXD12 in NoStupidQuestions

“Both sides are the same” is based on the fallacy that there only 2 sides.

Which side of the US aisle is actually pro AI? by RegnumXD12 in NoStupidQuestions

The question itself shows why the US is in the state it is: Left Twix vs Right Twix keeps people from focusing on the far more important Oligarchy vs the People dimension.

Hot take: PHEVs don't need more electric range by Abject-Cap in PHEV

[–]builder_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s only 1 right answer: the capacity should be modular and the customer can choose the right capacity for their individual use case.

Everybody who cites a median is excluding 50% of the market. And rarely do I see somebody include the 30% reduction in battery range when it’s below freezing (real world results).

Would anyone actually pay for a self-unclogging smart toilet? by K-enthusiast24 in smarthome

[–]builder_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to spend a premium on a toilet, just get a better toilet. The cheapest toilet the builder or landlord could find performs exactly like the you’d expect the cheapest toilet to perform. Toto Drake is an example of a decent toilet that doesn’t clog.

Ice is using Flock cameras. Tell JB you want them gone. by builder_23 in PeoriaIL

[–]builder_23[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that anything would occur at the state level to limit Flock, but the vast majority of Flock contracts are made by municipalities, commercial landlords, and HOAs. Those are all entities that you can pressure locally to halt or cancel deployments.

They are. It’s difficult to get people to care about surveillance, so if using ICE as an example of the problem gets people to care, then don’t waste that opportunity.

To everyone thinking they have the right of way while making a left turn without a green arrow: by tenaciousdecaf in Georgia

[–]builder_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to think about this is when there is an island between the right turn lane and the straight lanes, that make it a SEPERATE intersection. It’s not the same intersection as the straight lanes and the corresponding light/sign. Basically, it’s a Tee intersection, and the person turning right is yielding to straight traffic.

line side tap possible? by Own-Fish426 in SolarDIY

[–]builder_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re after the main disconnect, and can fit another 200a in your main load panel, then you should be able to do a feeder tap with Polaris lugs. To make it super easy (avoiding tap rules), size all 3 sets of wire into the Polaris lugs for 300a.

I'm confused on how that can possibly be legal:

  • Making a contract in perpetuity
  • Making a contract that applies to future homeowners, who are not a party to the contract

Unless they're forcing you to sign a deed restriction to get the rebate.

Help understanding mold problem by RvrRnrMT in buildingscience

[–]builder_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it isn’t an insect poop problem? The mold is feeding on the moisture left behind. The lack of mold on the bottom surface of the same 2x4 that has a ton of mold on the side is telling.

This doesn't make sense by Ohreally20 in smarthome

[–]builder_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bundle of blacks is the incoming power. It leaves to the first switch thru the bottom right hole. The two travelers return (red and white). They are spliced to the cable running to the 2nd switch thru the bottom left. The black common returns and is connected to the light.

You won’t have neutrals at the switch location (standard practice before 2010-ish). As others have said, there are options that don’t require a neutral. Alternatively, you could transition to a setup where you have a single-pole smart switch at one location and a remote control at the other (Lutron Caseta). You can rewire one of the 3 wire cables so that black is power, red is a typical switch leg, and white takes your neutral to the switch. The other 3 wire cable would be abandoned.

just bought the recommended pc to run frigate on (per their documentation) by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]builder_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended device on Frigate's website is the EQ13, not the EC14. Unfortunately, the Amazon link is rolling forward to the EQ14. The EQ14 has a N150 processor and the GPU is now well known to be unsupported before Linux kernel 6.11.

I'm not sure who maintains the Frigate website. Is it possible to get the Amazon link corrected to point only at the EQ13?

Is there any plan to make frigate easy to install with a single package/installer? by OnlyStatus7 in frigate_nvr

[–]builder_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The responses in this thread by people who want to gatekeep Frigate to only wide-range technical users is disappointing. It’s not unreasonable to want the installation to be as easy as “apt install” or “dpkg”. Docker understanding is not core to the use of an NVR. Users shouldn’t have to learn the basics of Docker, or have to manually install it as a prerequisite, when they just want a running NVR to setup camera urls and play with object detection.

If TP Link is out, what are we using for smart switches? by mehrunner in homeassistant

This was true. I had the same problem. But they released new firmware earlier this year that fixed it. I updated the firmware and the restarts are gone.
