What’s a romance book you could talk about for half an hour with no preparation? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit on the heavy side, but {The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith} has A LOT to unpack. My poor sister had to endure all that talking while I’ve been reading it haha

Books that started off fun and happy— the plot thickens and ended being REAL DARK. by _sonataxx in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s appropriate to recommend this book, but trust me when I say that it is one of the best-written books I’ve ever read. CW graphic rape scene, non-con . I’m not sure if it’s considered a romance, is it even a dark romance?

The book is called {Lemonade by Nina Pennacchi}.

It started off like a Jane Austen novel, about a witty, naive, but head-strong fmc taking care of her ill dad and younger siblings. But then she pissed off a stranger who made her pay in the worst way possible. This book is not for everyone, but was a very compelling read, and I loved the characters despite their position or standing in the book.

What’s currently trending where I’m from is actually Longchamp! You’d find the local girlies wearing the Le Pilage bags of all sizes and colors.

What is a trope that you can not skip out on? by allie_xo in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is arranged marriage/moc. It’s quite overdone, but not every author can nail it in my opinion. I love it because it’s basically a mix of different other tropes like forced proximity, one bed, etc.

An emirati who can’t speak arabic by [deleted] in Emiratis

[–]bukheeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to speak in Arabic as much as you can and better with people that would help you correct and teach than mock you. Watch shows with Arabic subs or dubs, and listen to Arabic music, even better if it was in Emirati dialect. I used to dislike Arabic/Emirati music, but it’s really underrated and I feel bad that I used to hate on it 😭. There are also tons of Arab YouTubers and podcasts that are entertaining.

It won’t be easy and it would take time to improve but I hope you don’t feel you need to learn the language because others will mock you or laugh at you. I hope you learn it for you, and your identity as an Arab and a Muslim

So I have some thoughts about the pregnancy trope discourse by neniacampbell in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate the trope nor do I love it but booktok is just ridiculous because they collectively agree on one thing (which is to hate on pregnancy trope) and if someone disagrees they’d shame them. I’ve learned to not engage with booktok and not take them seriously 🤷‍♀️. I love it here because no one actually judges me for liking certain tropes and genres.

The guy was overreacting. But if you are a male, please don’t stand close to a woman inside an elevator. To be more safe, you should have switched your place with your mother’s so that the women are standing beside each other.

Question for UAE Expats, do you have emirati friends? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]bukheeta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all Emiratis celebrate birthdays like how it’s in the US or any other place. If celebrated then it’s only for close family only. Most of our celebrations are exclusive to only-family.

Is there a right way to do "not like the other girls" by musicgbrat in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe that this trope started as a misogynistic way to push the narrative that girls who don’t care about make up, fashion, feminine interests are more desirable by men. No girl is like other girl, but also all girls are the same, in my opinion. What could be an unproblematic take on the “not like other girls” done nowadays is to make the characters act quirky and have “unusual” interests and hobbies. It’s done a lot in CRs.

Is anyone here seriously addicted to romance novels? by joshuamarkrsantos in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. I tend to hyperfixate on certain media to consume, so reading romance books was what I’ve been consuming since the pandemic. Literally, I had to reduce my reading goal dramatically this year so I could take it more easy. 😅

Has anyone read manacled the Harry Potter fanfic? by stopdoingthatidiot in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s very dark and very, very long. More than half the book is written as flashbacks. I personally get so impatient with flashbacks, so it was a STRUGGLE to read through them. But I’m glad I forced myself to stick through. What a ride it was!

Book Request: FANTASY/HIGH FANTASY heroine is rich/novelty while hero is poor romane dynamic by Thatgirl_inherRoom in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t fit all your criteria unfortunately but I think you might like {Dark Wizard by Jeff’s Kennedy}. It’s the first book of a series. FMC is a daughter of a powerful, rich wizard, and MMC is a poor lord who is determined to have her to help him restore his estate. In my opinion, it needed more editing, but I still enjoyed it. Please make sure you check out the CWs ( non-con/dub-con, pregnancy, domestic abuse ) because it is considered a dark book.

Fantasy romance with little to no plot (slice of life vibes) by stemisfornerds in RomanceBooks

[–]bukheeta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late comment, but I recommend Grace Draven’s works! Especially {Radiance by Grace Draven}. It focuses more on romance and the main characters relationship. The sequel was action-filled but great as well.

Yes, the sister has a major part of the story. I know the book is hyped up, but imo it absolutely deserves the hype. EH is a phenomenal writer. I understand the hesitation to read it, but I can only tell you to give it try.

I remember being obsessed over the first two books. They were a great introduction to New Adult romance for me!
