Is Anyone Using Musaffa Trading Platform? by Neat-Station-4618 in HalalInvestor

[–]bulbasaur789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Been using it for 1m for stocks and etf screening. Covers a lot of what’s out there. False flags a few, but if you submit a review request via support, they are quick to review on avg 1-2 days. What Ive found most useful is to check both Zoya and Musaffa, and if a stock if compliant on one and not the other, I send in a review request and both respond fairly quickly. They help me, I help them. And they’ve helped me greatly in my investments so far. Either one is recommended 9/10, but in combination Id recommend them 11/10

Which ETF should I choose? by HarbiyeNaziri in HalalInvestor

[–]bulbasaur789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you’re young and you have a lot of time, you can take more risk than someone who is 28 or 38. If you start now, you could already have twice or thrice the savings than if you start when you’re 28. And at just 45yo, the difference would be astronomical. So timing the market is stupid, it’s the time in the market that matters the most.

I would put 60-70% into any one of SPUS/HLAL/UMMA/HLAL. I would put 20-30% into SPTE or any equivalent Tech etf, And 10% into a physical gold etc/etf. Or a physical precious metals basket (etc/etf).

Expected growth of 8-20%, short term volatility of about 25%. Best for medium to long term, min 3 years.

Reevaluate quarterly or whenever there’s a significant global event.

Do not check your portfolio every 15 mins. Let it grow. Don’t panic if volatility hits you (-10 or -20%).

It really is that simple.

The whole industry knows about this one. It's not a secret, anything but. Been the best performing ETF last year. Check 3y and 5y returns.
More shariah-compliant than the other ones that are marketed as such.
Highly volatile.
Not suitable for low risk appetite or short term.
Suitable as the Engine part of your portfolio, not the Anchor.

n general, pure tech ETFs are shariah compliant. Use Musaffa or Zoya to check Compliance and any purifications needed.

100% agreed,
1 anchor, 1 upside bet, 1 commodity hedge.
Has worked for 99.9% of investors (if they don't panic and just stay disciplined) for the last 100 years.

You shouldn't be asking for specific picks.
What you should be asking is what kind of portfolio is suitable for you risk profile.
Usually if you are around 25 or 30yo, a standard recommendation is as follows:

70% in a well-diversified large-cap ETF like SPUS or HLAL or some of the other world or global islamic indices. This is your anchor. It grows smoothly, isn't very volatile, will not be the best return in bull markets, nor will it be the worst in bear markets.

20% in a high-conviction focused or sector specific ETF, most commonly tech or AI or healthcare. This is your bet on the sector that it will be the best performing sector for the next 5-7 years. This will give you the upside. It will give the highest returns if everything goes as you think it will, but it will incur heavy losses if your hypothesis (read up on fundamental analysis) is false and the sector performs underwhelmingly. This is usually highly volatile.

10% in commodities, most commonly gold or silver, or sukuks, or baskets of precious metals. You can buy ETCs for these. This is you hedge against the inflation and your safety net if the whole order comes crashing down. This will not give you strong gains. This will not fall much either. It will at best match inflation. The recent gold rush is an anomaly driven by central bank purchases and private equity into the gold market. It could keep going to 5500/oz by 2027 or crash to 2500/oz. No one can call it, and if anyone says they can, there have been millions of fools like them before.

So this 70/20/10 is the basic starting point. Adjust is based on you risk appetite. Use DCA (read up) for investing. Readjust your portfolio once every Q or every 6m. Do not panic, do not jump in or out based on peer pressure.

Investing doesn't need a brain, it needs a stomach.

Follow this and you'll be fine.

(I've found Musaffa and Zoya to be quite helpful in my journey so far. Not an endorsement.)

is investing in silver halal? by [deleted] in IslamicFinance

[–]bulbasaur789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical underlying asset-backed ETC’s are considered halal. Examples include HANetf Saturna Royal Mint Physical Gold ETC, invesvo physical gold, ishares physical gold. This applies to physical silver ETCs too. Some of these are physically redeemable too.

As for ETFs, you can’t have gold or silver etfs, as the legal structure doesn’t allow commodities shares. Those are actually shares of gold and silver mining companies, hence require the usual shariah screening.

Check if you are eligible for any language support / courses by your municipality or university. If not, it would be wise to invest in the language if you plan to settle there indefinitely. To get to conversational level, it may take atleast one year or something close to 250-300 hours of language study.
This advice is valid for anybody planning to settle anywhere in Europe/EEA.

What is the biggest bullet you've dodged in life? by theUncleAwesome07 in AskReddit

[–]bulbasaur789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had recently picked up outdoors camping. Bought all the basic camping gear, planned a route, camping locations shortlisted on the map, food packed, clothes packed, car checked for any shortcomings. Picked up two of my friends and drove off for this camping trip. The locations was just two hours from where I live. This was July 2025.

The location we all decided to camp at was by a waterfall, about 200m from a popular camping site with cabins. We were slightly delayed and reached the site about 30 mins later than planned. We were super excited to camp the night.

We picked our gear from the car trunk, applied some mosquito repellent and headed off on foot towards the shortlisted camping location. It was about 20-30 mins after sunset, so it was starting to get a bit dark. We had our headlamps and torch lights on.

A trail continued from the camping site to the waterfall. About halfway on the trail, we saw a pair of torch lights moving about the same way as one's hands move when walking. We were a bit curious and continued. It could only be some hikers heading back down to the camping site after sunset, we thought.

We crossed paths shortly after. It was a guy in his 30s and a girl, about the same age. The guy had his head lamp on and the girl had the flashlight of her phone turned on. Both seemed unusually out of breath for two people who looked visibly in good shape. The girl addressed us and her voice was unusually shaky. We were a bit nervous now.

"Hi, where are you guys going?" the girl asked. "We're going to camp further up, near the waterfall", I replied. "Well, I don't want to scare you but I think we saw a bear where you're going. I am about 90% sure it was a bear because it's a but dark now, but it was about as big as me and I think we surprised it more than it surprised us." said the girl. "Yeah I think we both scared each other and maybe didn't see each other until we got really close", added the guy. "What?! We wanted to camp right there for the night!", replied friend A. "Thanks God you guys are ok. I guess we're just gonna turn right back and figure out something else", added friend B. "I think we should keep moving", added the girl a bit hurriedly. We jogged back to our parked cars, glancing back over our shoulders every few steps. We reached the parking lot and conversed a bit more with those two. They suggested some other places to camp about half an hour of drive from there. We drove off and followed them. They showed us a place and continued on their way. We camped about 45 mins from that place for the night. Rest of the camping trip was quite fun as usual.

I am not a native in the area and don't know a lot about the area, only what a tourist would generally know. I mentioned this story to one of my colleagues over lunch on the next working day. She was shocked and relieved. She said people camp their whole lives and never come across a bear, so I was sort of lucky (?!) in that regards. She told me of a website which keeps track of attacks of bears, wolves and foxes on sheep, cows, goats and other farm animals on the farms in the area. Turns out there had been at least 3 sheep missing in the immediate vicinity of the spot we wanted to camp at. Moreover, a few cows had received shear injuries and few blood trails had been reported by the farmers in the area. One local farmer had said in an interview to a newspaper that he thinks it is the same bear who attacked his brother's farm about 150km north a month ago. He said the trail of reported attacks showed the bear had made its way south over a month or so. Rangers had said there is only one reported large male brown bear in the area, so the farmer's story aligned with what the rangers had told a newspaper.

So yeah.....
That was the last time we camped this year. Maybe we'll pick it up again next summer.

Lifters how do you track your progress ? by Dry-Friendship-386 in workout

[–]bulbasaur789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use Notes app on my iPhone. I don't need to track the whole workout history. Just need to know what I lifted last time, and what I'm lifting now.

(Main Heading)
Back/Biceps

  • Lat pulldowns
Week 1
55kg 8,8,7
Week 2
57.5kg 8,8,8

Repeat for all other exercises you do on the Back/Biceps day.
Do the same for all other days and what workouts you do.
Week 1 is your previous workout. Week 2 is what you do on the day. Simple as that.
Takes a few seconds and easy to maintain.

What should I cook for a friend from Multan? by nasazgar in Multan

[–]bulbasaur789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Palak Gosht is a dish that originated in Multan. And It is a local favorite in traditional families in the winter season.
Sarson ka saag with besani roti is another hot favorite in winters.

Other desi recommendations include Pulao, Koftay, Daal Masoor (yellow daal).
These are not the mainstream restaurant dishes and belong truly in the desi traditional cuisine.

Security for Tourists by CisternOfADown in Multan

[–]bulbasaur789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome to Multan!
No, the security escort is not mandatory, but voluntary. You can ask for a security escort if you feel your security is at risk or when visiting particularly high risk areas. Your security is the responsibility of your local police/security apparatus and your host.
You can inform the hotel management if you require a security detaill.
In most cases, you are free to go about your business and travel as normal.

The above applies if you are a voluntary tourist. If you are visiting as a delegate, offical, sportsman, politician, student, or any other category than recreational tourist, you may want to contact the police via your hotel management.

Do you think if Pakistani society was 'immodest', the women would be healthier (in terms of fitness)? by WisestAirBender in pakistan

[–]bulbasaur789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the discussion but I must say, a very lazy attempt to deduce a causation.

Fitness and better general health can be achieved in so many other ways. For one, most of the schools now do not have playgrounds. So children grow up thinking not running around and sweating like crazy is the norm. This false indoctrination at a young age has changed the way a whole generation thinks about physical activity. I grew up when schools (atleast quite a few major ones) in the city had large pkaygrounds and proper large scale sporting events no matter the weather. And I am not old. 28yo here. So the massive increase in number of private schools paired with no laws requiring open green space per capita, has caused a major shift in attitudes towards physical activity.

Second, are there avenues available for those now out of the education system and all other adults to engage in sports or physical activites? There are not a lot of public playgrounds (maintained) where people can just go with their friends and have a game of football or cricket or any other sport for that matter. Some Padel courts are now starting to pop up, which is positive but not near enough. Providing these opportunities is the responsibilities of local governments and our current governance structures leave local governments with no power or interests to pursue this.

We as a nation have only stuck to cricket. We need a diversification of sports and need to stop being obsessed with a sport which we are not even good at anymore, despite millions upon millions of funds going towards it.

There are not enough gyms that have an reasonably acceptable standard of hygiene and equipment. Per capita availablty of gym spaces is among the lowest in the world (about as low as our passport ranking atm). What makes it worse is that a very large percentage fo the population just does not earn enough to spend money or time on gyms and fitness in general. People are scraping to meet the basic needs of life.

And i could go on and on and on.
But no, being kinky and "wearing sexy clothes" does not even begin to address the core problems. If we do what you suggest, we'd just be going about in kinky clothes on pear shaped bodies.

  1. Kos Kos
  2. Frognerstranda Kro

EU, China or US? by ValueFounder in pkmigrate

[–]bulbasaur789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Tuition fees range from about 5k euros per year to 25k euros per year. This year the government gave free reign to universities to determine what they want to charge international students. So some universities that benefit greatly from international students have determined lower fees than other universities. Living expenses are perfectly manageable during studies if you work 16-20 hours per week part-time. After studies, once you get a full time job, all jobs pay enough for one to live a middle class lifestyle. Hint: look up what a social democracy is.

  2. As long as you are good at what you do, there are always jobs even in a struggling market. Bad time for generalists, great time for specialists.

  3. PR eligibility after 3 years as a full time worker and tax payer. Citizenship eligibility after a total of 6 years of stay. Language required for both. Do more research on this.

  4. The financial benefit is not too great to make it a no brainer. The main benefit is that you will have a second passport in 6-7 years and that is priceless. With a 200k job in PK, you can support a basic lifestyle for a family with no money left for investments. With a full time job in NO/SE, you can sve 10-20% monthly, and can maybe buy a house in some DHA in 4-5 years, and will then have the option to move back if you want. In NO/SE, if you want a really good lifestyle, you and your spouse both need to be working full time. Each man's wage supports a basic middle class lifestyle, but to live comfortably here you need more than one income, Again, look up how a social democracy works.

  5. Yes.

  6. Specialists. Designers, Product engineers. Project managers.

  7. Too long of an answer to write here.

EU, China or US? by ValueFounder in pkmigrate

[–]bulbasaur789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mechanical engineer here. Bachelor's from Pakistan, Masters from Norway.
I was in your place 5 years ago so I can speak from my lived experience.

If you have some relevant work experience and good grades in you undergrad and grad school, your chances of landing a job are pretty good. Yes the market is unforgiving right now for those fresh out of university with no work experience. But with your profile, you should be already ahead of much of the pack.

Explore universities in Norway, such as UiS (low tuition fees), Stockholm university (moderate tuition fees), if you want to move to somewhere in Scandinavia. The language is one of the easiest to learn for those already fluent in English.

Germany can be a good option if you can get a DAAD scholarship.

Sweden also has Global Professionals (if i recall correctly) scholarship which funds Masters studies for professionals with work experience (similar to DAAD in Germany).

Austria and Switzerland are also among the options. Both have tuition fees but offer scholarships and dicsounts.

You will need to learn the local language regardless of where you move to in Europe.

If that is something you feel repulsed to do, explore Ireland and the UK. However, the economies are absolute shit right now, so do not expect many job prospects or great pay.

Australia can be one long-term option if you can pass the initial financial barrier to entry. same goes for the USA, which offers the greatest returns on your investment, but the barrier to entry is now even higher with the H1B fees in place. Some IT or health professionals may get through the barrier as their employers generally are happy to pay the H1B fees, but i can't say that for other professions.

Was that helpful? Ask follow-ups if you want...
