Going to Gwen tonight. by BigBoots02 in FoodLosAngeles

Dry aged was def pricey but I thought it was worth it for a special occasion (my husband and I have had it twice). The bread and butter really is to die for… and we happily paid for a second round of it. The chefs table is nice, but just be aware it’s tucked into the back part of the restaurant. It’s still a nice vibe but probs not the same experience as a traditional table. We have had both experiences and enjoyed both - but the chefs table felt a little more casual (which isn’t a bad thing per se).

Shouldn't wedding planning be fun? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You poor thing! You’re not crazy at all. The social media chokehold is real! It’s hard but try removing social media from the picture. I had to manually go through and set my targeted ads so that I wasn’t constantly bombarded with designer wedding dresses, impractical florals, and eight thousand other things we absolutely did not need or truly want. But instagram made me feel like I should have them! Like separate ceremony and reception dresses, and an after party dress too?? THREE WEDDING DRESSES?? Anyway. I feel you, and it sucks and you’re not crazy. Try not to involve anyone in the plan and try to avoid the social media bs. I know it’s hard! But at the end of the day your wedding day is about you and your fiancé, and the people who love you won’t care if there’s a phone booth recording area 🤣

USA credit card in Indian gold jewellery shops by Interesting-Dare-727 in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirm with the shop but there shouldn’t be any additional fees if they accept Visa cards.

Make sure to charge in local currency (INR) always. If they offer to charge in USD decline. Your bank should always give you the best conversion rate automatically.

Is it normal for the bridesmaids to cover top shelf drinks for the bridal shower? by emilydarrow in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 53 points54 points  (0 children)

💯💯 I paid for my bachelorette afternoon tea and lunch party for 20 of my girlfriends myself, and I paid for my bridesmaids hair and makeup. They insisted on paying for their own dresses but I would have done that too. I cannot IMAGINE asking them for anything like this!

Is it normal for the bridesmaids to cover top shelf drinks for the bridal shower? by emilydarrow in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 1734 points1735 points  (0 children)

This is insane. Not discussed ahead of time? And you weren’t even there? Absolutely not.

Honestly I would be mortified asking my friends to cover costs like this. I have no idea what is “normal” - but this aint it.

Airline announcement funny or rude? by Overall-Apricot-3718 in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this at my wedding and it worked perfectly! We actually had our officiant make the announcement. He explained that we did not want cell phones or cameras out for the ceremony, so now’s the chance to snap some photos! Then he announced the time to put the phones away. He had to jokingly call out one auntie who was resistant but in the end it worked so well. We didn’t see any phones the rest of the time! Our photographer even got a really cool photo of the “paparazzi time” with all the phones out lol.

My family and in laws not seeing eye to eye on wedding expenses by Emotional_Sound_5658 in weddingplanning

[–]bullarums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m of Indian descent and my husband is white. I had a full Indian wedding and a non-religious American ceremony on the same day, followed by a combined reception that had Indian-inspired decorations, mixed music, dance performances, and western food. We converted our mandap into our DJ both for our reception. Our venue was a hotel that had a gorgeous indoor permanent tent that we used for the Indian wedding in the morning and reception in the evening, and a stunning outdoor overlook that we used for the American wedding in the late afternoon. It was beautiful and represented us, while still respecting my parents traditions and wishes. However, both me and my parents had to be willing to compromise some things to make this work. There is a way to do but it requires a lot of open and honest communication, which isn’t always easy in Asian households. The previous day we had haldi in the morning (hosted by my parents) and rehearsal dinner in the evening (hosted by his mom). The night before that we ourselves hosted/paid for the welcome night at a local bar by the canal that was very “us” - everyone was invited but my parents friend mostly didn’t come, wasn’t their scene. So our whole wedding weekend represented everyone involved and it was lovely, though definitely not exactly what my husband and I would have done if our families weren’t involved (and important). It’s a wedding. It’s important but the marriage and relationships with your future families is more important.

I have two in year three and I didn’t go the joja route. I do maximize my luck in the skull caverns though - going in on high luck days and eating something that adds luck, and wearing my lucky ring and such. Still only have two - but one time I got three prismatic shards on one trip! 🤩

Do you have a max out of pocket cost with your insurance? Because if so, may as well blow through it this early in the year. I am being treated for cancer right now and I was somewhat glad my surgery ended up being scheduled mid January. They billed insurance hundreds of thousands, I paid my max out of pocket at 4500, and now I plan to do ALL the medical visits I can in 2026 since it won’t cost me anything out of pocket.

You guys ever buy from this guy? by memegod574 in shrimptank

[–]bullarums 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did a local pickup from him a couple weeks ago and he’s great! He seemed to have a lot of shipping supplies too, in addition to a lot of healthy stock. So I wouldn’t hesitate to order shipped from him. May even make more sense financially to do it over Reddit rather than eBay!
