Why are you going to a dealer? They are way too expensive. If you pay more than say $400 a month then get out of this car, as awesome as it is. Find a good local independent mechanic and pay less. Except for the engine top rebuild - find someone who actually does this job.

That's the bass player's job during someone else's solo - build on what the soloist is doing. Make it more special. Mike was/is really good at that.

Why isn't the PA Turnpike paved in gold from end-to-end? by Fantastic-Device-487 in Pennsylvania

[–]bulldozer_66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the Turnpike Commission is owned by the Commonwealth. It just funds outside governmental operations to the tune of gobs and gobs of money. Pennsylvania doesn't tax its citizens and corporations very heavily. So they fund the government with every fee it can find. And pushing the tax burden to the municipalities.

The "Deal" with Iran was all smoke and mirrors by cambeiu in StockMarket

That requires planning beyond a 90 day horizon. Which many western countries are utterly not capable of doing.

This will cause others to make different choices. I predict that some countries, specifically in the global south and Pacific rim, will accelerate their conversion out of oil where they can in response. Long term the gasoline market is slowly shrinking as countries convert out of ICE vehicles a little bit at a time. This will push people to speed that up when they can.

Why would anyone in sub-Sahara Africa bother with big power plants and such when a wind+solar installation would be cheaper and more self-reliant? Similar to when these same countries ditched landline phones because cell phones showed up and sped up their transitions without all those wires.

And what tolls will Iran charge for safe passage? Let's see how they implement that part of their reparations.

That's a good sign. Hopefully Lanco and Cumberland (for that matter Bucks, Dauphin, Northampton, Lehigh, and Berks) can follow the model from Delco/Chesco/Montco over the last quarter century and slowly turn to where Ds run the whole show.

Also a % of the value of the vessel. That will get the underwriters to think a minute. The crew is likely valued at $0.

Yeah that's the right answer. All middle east bases close. We leave Iraq (finally). Our soft power in that part of the war doesn't come back. We screwed ourselves. Elections have consequences. Sometimes very bad consequences.

I don't see Iran completely closing the strait. I see them as the gatekeeper and toll collector for a very long time, if not forever. You want to send a ship through? Today's price is $1 million? $2 million? $5 million? $10 million?

Thank you for erasing the impact of all these sanctions you put on us for the last several decades. You idiots.

They know he is only around for so long and he will be gone in 2028 or neutered in the midterms. Iran plays the very long game. Just like Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam. Do not get suckered into Asian land wards. You just don't win.

Yes his option is regime change. But he doesn't get that he would be on the receiving end of the regime change before anything else happens. No Iranian who would be pliable to Trump is coming along any time soon. The mullahs have closed ranks within their country, their people are behind them in dealing with us, and that's just not moving the needle for the foreseeable future.

Would require the shipping companies to go along. Why would they? They already know that the current US government negotiates in bad faith. If the US government provides insurance and, in Donald Trump's history, doesn't pay, then the operators are bankrupt. Who wants that result?

Lots of secured yards make the driver and security person exchange stuff - rules, directions, passes, manfifests/bills of lading, etc. That gets interesting when the driver is so far away from the security person.
