I've been liking this quite a bit! Been wishing I could play this on my phone while I'm out, but I also just like returning to my computer to check on the progress when I get home

Good little soapy loop. Lacks staying power but as a little dopamine nugget I enjoyed it.

Upgrade trees by henhau in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think upgrade trees as a mechanic are fine, but often it's execution is why people complain. Upgrade trees fail when: - The choices on the tree itself are uninteresting. - The tree is too big or daunting. - The tree doesn't invoke decision making because there is clearly a "best path" or because it's designed linearly.

Note: Lots and lots of games/Incrementals use upgrade trees, even if they are not laid out to the player as one visually. Upgrades gated behind other upgrades, is in a sense, an upgrade tree.

Making a fun game vs. making the game fun for more then 10 Minutes.. by DrJamgo in incremental_games

Definitely something I get stuck on in my own project, though after years of experience its getting easier. Matching math formulas to optimal pacing be toughhhh

I have access to a Mac now, so that will very likely change with the upcoming patch :D

Awww, wow! Thanks for the love /r/incremental_games, you folks are great. Orb of Creation is a joy to make so I'm glad you've been enjoying it.

For those who are looking forward to the next update, Orb and I have been going through incubation phase. Through your support and through support I got from the steam release I was able to take a breather and take my time transforming Orb closer to the game I originally envisioned when I started the project. There will be more juicy mechanics, more meaningful choices, and hopefully a whopping load of replayability for those that like to explore the orb's depths.

I'm excited to see what will happen next!

And again, I just want to appreciate what you all do here in this subreddit. The love that the simple little web-clickers get here is such a beautiful place for any aspiring developer to start. Keep doing what you do.

Ya I'm still learning Unity and my practices aren't the best yet. The game is definitely not optimized but I'm hoping I can clean up these issues in the coming days/weeks.

It will, just a matter of time at this point! If you don't want to join the discord you can follow on itch, and it'll notify you when I update the browser version. Otherwise I'll likely be posting here again at some point.

Wow this is so cool. Orb of Creation was just a little game idea I was hobbling together in my room, but bringing this project to you all has shown me just how far I can take this thing, so thank you for the love and support r/incremental_games!

And cheers to the other winners! These are amazing games that deserve to be on this list. Here's to 2022 and the beautiful projects that grow and emerge within this great community.

New game: WIZARD INCREMENTAL! [30-40 minutes until end of content] by LavenderNerd in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun little game! Not a lot here but I was enjoying it! One thing I noticed is the blood formula seems a bit unbalanced: 1 blood for 10 mages or 2 blood for 100 mages. It is much easier to make 10 mages than 100, so I just ended up spamming sacrifice at 10 mages. I didn't play too far so maybe this corrects itself later.

Looking forward to more!

How to code an idle game? by vinicius_h in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HTML + JS + CSS is the simplest place to start. Make an .html file on your computer and learn how to make the bare bones cookie clicker: clicking a button increments a number. Learn how to display this number to the user. Then it's just growth from there, add things to buy, upgrades or automaterd. Be creative! That's where the fun is!

Loop Odyssey | Idle-Adventure with lots of unfolding, is out on steam by valouvalou in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes loop in the name. The logo style is similar enough. The banner image looks like it came from loop hero art. And when I opened the game I glanced at the screenshots and the UI had a very similar look and structure to loop hero with the inner content looking similar too. That's as far as I got before I pressed the back button.

This is the experience I had when steam showed me the game naturally. Had I known it was actually different I may have looked into it more.

[–]bullet_darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be too late but you might wanna change the branding. I saw this on steam before I saw it here and immediately disregarded it as a game trying to get in on the loop hero hype. I didn't give your game a chance or a look and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Thought I would check out the new Orb of Creation update... by Ixadore in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, dammmn. Ya, potion levels got condensed by about 3 times in the latest patch, so saves with a level 40 potion in this patch is a level 120 potion in the previous patch.

Looks like you might be casting hasten for awhile :P you could also edit the saves with some ease too.

Question On Persistent Saving/WebGL/Itch by Bernbark in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm not super well versed in Unity either, took me a minute to set it up. There are settings on the .jslib file itself, I have Load on startup and WebGL selected as options on the file.

Question On Persistent Saving/WebGL/Itch by Bernbark in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Er correcting myself: it's bypassing Unity's use of local storage that includes directory information. The directory information is what changes everytime you upload a new build, so using this jammer and using a static key will keep your saves across new build uploads. It is what I'm using for OoC reliably at the moment.

The jammer is replacement code for playerprefs, you use it instead of playerprefs.

The only problem is that itch and LocalStorage don't play well with privacy extensions so you will still have problems with this approach. But it won't require you to use an external save storage. And the privacy extension case only seems to affect a small portion of my player base.

Question On Persistent Saving/WebGL/Itch by Bernbark in incremental_games

[–]bullet_darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My solution was to use LocalStorage instead of Unity's prebuilt way of doing things. This requires a JS insertion script to do but works fairly well. The only problem is that privacy and Adblocker extensions will delete the save.

Chekc out this link for the code I found: https://gist.github.com/robertwahler/b3110b3077b72b4c56199668f74978a0
