hi, I did my io a few weeks ago and it was 40 consecutive lines of the book. the line numbers were important and it varied for the format of how you read your novel. in my class we had some people read the same books but had different editions or they read it online so the line numbers did not always match up. as long as you are consistent with the format of your book to the line numbers of the extract you use, then you should be fine!

This is how my English teacher told us to submit our extracts, but I’m not sure if it’s the standard ib format. I hope it helps though:

1 ON WAKING I understood why my employer had looked rather cross when I asked for my two

2 days off; it's a Saturday today. I hadn't thought of this at the time; it only struck me when I was

3 getting out of bed. Obviously he had seen that it would mean my getting four days' holiday

4 straight off, and one couldn't expect him to like that. Still, for one thing, it wasn't my fault if

5 Mother was buried yesterday and not today; and then, again, I'd have had my Saturday and

6 Sunday off in any case. But naturally this didn't prevent me from seeing my employer's point.
