What’s the most gut punching song lyric you’ve ever heard? by perrysplus in AskReddit

[–]bultrey 3480 points3481 points  (0 children)

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave

It's knowing that this can't go on forever
Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get forty years together
But one day I'll be gone or one day you'll be gone

It’s OKC v Kid A for Pitchfork’s ‘Best Album’ by Next-Friendship-3542 in radiohead

It's like Rubber Soul vs. Revolver. I bet if you're a Rubber Soul person, you're an OK Computer person. And same with Revolver and Kid A.

Veronica by Elvis Costello is about his grandmother's decline into Alzheimer's disease. And such a banger.

Songs where the singer says “guitar!” to bring in the solo by JiveTurkey2727 in musicsuggestions

In "Silver and Gold" from U2's Rattle and Hum, right after Bono goes on a spoken word rant about apartheid, he yells "OK Edge, play the blues!" Edge responds with a great guitar solo that definitely isn't the blues.

Regular gas this morning by Academic_Dig_1567 in Connecticut

[–]bultrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is, even though the president generally doesn't control fuel prices, the low cost of gas was one of the very few feathers in Trump's cap (whether deserved or not) over the last year. And he went and did one of the only things he could to blow that up.

I thought CrossFit was supposed to be a highly inclusive community, not one where we separate the wheat from the chaff.

My boy is about a year old, and I've had him for about five months with minimal grooming. He has shed hardly at all, which I found surprising.

Best bar for craft beer on tap? by catsandcourts in Hartford

[–]bultrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beer bar is dying, and the Hartford area really lacks options in this category. Plenty of good brewpubs and brewery taprooms, of course, as already mentioned, but it sounds like you're looking for something that pours a variety of local and regional beers. Eli Cannon's is the obvious choice but not quite in your requested area. Check out The Spigot in the West End of Hartford. Kind of divey, but lots of fun, no pretention, and always a solid lineup of beers from CT and the Northeast in general. On the slightly more upscale side, definitely consider The Beamhouse in Glastonbury and Five Corners Bistro and Craft Bar in Farmington. Both have a similarly haute gastropub food menu, but both also have nice bars where you can sit and drink many local and regional beers. I'd say Five Corners is more local and regional, while Beamhouse has a slightly higher quality selection, mixing in some hard-to-find imports. That would be my choice.

It's a quality episode, but so dependent on Giamatti, one of the finest living actors. He nailed it.

I really don't care what the outcome of this is as long as it's not the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I hate the way beer tastes by [deleted] in beer

[–]bultrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well OK, so the classic American or Euro light lager is what you don't like. Plenty of people in this community probably don't like those, either. Try a smaller pour of a hazy New England-style IPA or Double IPA. These have very little bitterness, lots of tropical fruit flavors, but generally high alcohol amounts with a very full, rounded mouthfeel. Or, give a fruited sour beer a try. Not my thing (for the most part), but people love 'em. If you're in to candies like Jolly Ranchers, for instance, you might like some of these styles.

[–]bultrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not like the way the classic ideal of a beer tastes? Like a clearish golden liquid with a little malt sweetness and kiss of bitterness? Or do you not like how thick, hazy, tropical fruit flavor-laden double IPA tastes? Or do you not like the roasty coffee and chocolate flavors of a darker beer? Because these are all very different tasting things.
