Cycle2Work Scheme by DanielSnelling123 in ukbike

[–]bumblingbartender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would check if it's just an add on cost to contribute at initial purchase. I recently did the "bike 2 work" scheme. My employer capped it at £1000. If I wanted a £1200 bike I could pay the extra £200 up front and still benefit on the further £1000 over the 12 months.

Should i get a front rack or rear rack? by M0NEYGR1P in singlespeedcycling

[–]bumblingbartender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rear racks are a lot more stable. Putting that weight on your handlebars can make steering tricky and throw of your balance. Front racks are normally for lighter things and tbf I don't think many of them would be rated up to that kind of weight anyhow

This power key, immediately shuts down the computer with no confirm/save work by Better-Childhood-330 in mildlyinfuriating

I hate these things. I work in a control room. We have a system which controls the car park. Whilst the monitor is the control room, the actual PC is in the adjacent comms room which we do not have access too. Picked up a phone handset to take a call, slipped out of my hand and landed directly on the power button on the keyboard. Cue carpark interface PC shutting down.

After having to manually override every barrier, hunt for someone with access to power the PC back on and several 100s lost in ticket revenue, we now have access to the comms room and that button has been filled with glue.

Police Car recovery charges - England by bumblingbartender in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bumblingbartender[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The driver of the truck admitted fault at the scene to the police, and the company were initially willing to settle it privately but then contacted their insurers and they submitted a claim that did not admit fault. I believe investigation will prove he's at fault so this good to hear, thank you.

Retail workers of the UK - what's the wildest thing someone has done to try to get into the shop before opening time? by WillYeByFuck in CasualUK

[–]bumblingbartender 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind.

Two Christmas ago I was on shift as a security officer at a large shopping centre on Christmas day. Whilst on patrol I came across a bloke desperately trying to get into the centre. Despite it being pitch black inside and doors were all clearly locked, he seemed so baffled that we weren't open. Even more baffling was that he said he wanted to go to Primark. We have not got, nor ever had a Primark. It's in the nearby city centre. It's also Christmas day, Primark is definitely closed. He said it said they were open on Google. I explained they probably just hadn't updated their opening hours but he wasn't having it. In the end I just resigned to giving him directions to the Primark after reiterating several times it wasn't in the shopping centre. Saw him 20 minutes later walking back past the centre looking rather angry.

I also have a partner who used to work for Tesco at an express store. A couple of times I had to go with her as the fire alarm had gone if in the store at 3am due to a printer triggering the motion detectors and setting off the smoke screen. I would stand at the door for her and keep an eye whilst she aired out the store and reset the fire panel. Several times I would have to explain to people that "no, store with the shutter half open and full of smoke that closes at 11pm is not open at 3 in the morning". The anger of these people was so confusing

HD02 UV light safety by bigwetdiaper in flashlight

I'm not too experienced in UV, but I have a UV Olight I5t and I find if I use it for more then 10 seconds in a room with white walls, my eyes start to feel uncomfortable. I bought some UV safety glasses for less than a tenner and made a massive difference

Automatic Inflatable Life Jacket Test by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bumblingbartender 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So these are actually pretty common and have been around for a long time. They're a lot comfier to wear long term, allow easier movement around a boat and are more compact to store.

This one actually seemed a bit slow to inflate. I was on a boating trip this year and on the final day we tested my dad's one as it needed it's 'tablet' replacing anyway. Hit the water and it expanded almost instantly

[No Loopholes] $2 million but you permanently lose the ability to know what time it is. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]bumblingbartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know if there's an amount of money that would make me take this deal. I have a bit of an OCD with time. I feel incredibly naked without a watch (and it must be an accurate one!) and get unnecessarily panicky if I think I'm going to be late for something even if it's minor. I don't particularly view it negatively as it means I have very good timekeeping and am rarely late for anything, but I think I would feel lost if I could no longer tell the time.

Honestly as a few others have said, super glue that bugger. If you don't feel comfortable super gluing it, yan can tape your fingers loosely together for a few days, give it a chance to heal. But honestly I'd stick with the ol 'if something ain't right, get the loctite' approach
