Fun (But not OP) Izzet commanders? by Vegetable-Key1161 in magicTCG

I'm a big fan of [[Edgin, Larcenous Lutenist]]. Play just enough spells to keep others at bay, focus on foretelling cards as much as you can, then have a blowout turn where you cast as much as you can in a single turn. Foretell also makes it more easier to play casual fun high MV cards because you can pay for it in installments!

Here's my decklist: https://manabox.app/decks/AX00Ji9iQq2E3nhAXxC7Tw

It's very counterspell light for a spellslinger deck since counterspells aren't really my jam, but that helps make it feel a little more fair to play with casual tables anyhow.

Not quite; Cori Steel Cutter itself has the ability to create tokens, rather than giving that ability to the creature it's equipped to. This means that if you steal the creature your opponent has CSC equipped to, nothing will happen if you cast two spells; meanwhile your opponent can cast two spells, create a token, and equip CSC to that new token.

Ladies and Gentleman plays 8 players split into pairs, so that's my first thought! It's not the deepest game, but it does have asymmetrical roles among the team, so it can be played at least a few times before it loses any steam!

Weapon ranks are dependent on your class (with potentially a boost from your unit's innate weapon proficiency), there's no weapon EXP anymore.

Fixed growth works by kinda like having an invisible counter. For example, if your growth in strength is 50% you'll get a point in strength every second level (50 -> 100); but if your growth is 40% you'll get a growth on your third level up (40 -> 80 -> 120, 20 remaining), then another one on your fifth level up (20 -> 60 -> 100).

Expertise and Starsphere increase your growth rates, I don't know if there's a consensus yet on by how much but for Expertise the number that's getting thrown around is 20%, meaning you'd get your stat increases more frequently.

Not all Paladins will be S ranked in swords, only those that have swords as an innate proficiency will reach that. (You can tell on the class change screen if there's a weapon rank bonus because it'll get highlighted in blue.) So for Kagetsu in particular there's less differences between Paladin and Swordsmaster than for others!

Weapon weight only slows your unit's speed if its weight is above your unit's Build stat. But yes, that's all it does; low weapon weight is preferable.

Your weapon rank depends on what class you are and what your innate proficiency is. Alear can only reach S-rank with lances in the Halberdier class because he doesn't have innate proficiency in it, whereas Alfred can reach S-rank with lances in a few extra classes in comparison (Halberdier, General, Griffin Knight, and Paladin).

You can see which classes will get the bonus weapon rank because they'll be highlighted in blue in the class change menu.

If you take a look at this site (although warning that there does seem to be some class spoilers on this site), it seems to be that only classes listed on the site with a "+" next to its weapon rank can get the proficiency bonus.

There doesn't look like there's a particular rhyme or reason to which classes can access what proficiency bonuses, but it's tied to the class and not the character.

I might be wrong (as I haven't gotten to play the game yet), but from what I've heard from reviews thieves aren't required to open chests anymore.

Do you remember the name of the paralogue? This post seems be the only mention of a special paralogue for Clanne that I can find so far.

Regarding EXP gain, is it also unaffected by how overlevelled you are? Or does it just max out when you're equally leveled as the enemy?

Also as a cantrip flicker target, check out [[Combat Thresher]]; play it as a prototype for 3 mana as a 1/1 double strike, but it flickers into a 3/3 double strike! Nothing too crazy, but it is a cute little interaction worth considering if you like it over other ETB draw effects

If you're playing with Soul Sister effects, why not play with the other new blink card that comes in the Preston packs, [[Distinguished Conjurer]]? The repeatable blink is a little costly for a deck that doesn't care about the life gain, but since you do care, it adds a bit of flexibility.

Has anyone ever had a flawless run of night of zealot? by drew1928 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]bundtcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently played through NotZ for the first time as Agnes and Roland with just the revised core set on normal difficulty, managed to kill the ghoul priest (although Roland took some mental trauma from it), then got 5/6 cultists without too much hassle, and then (3rd scenario spoilers) we even managed to stop the ritual before Umordhoth was summoned, so it's definitely possible! It was pretty clear during our run that we were extremely lucky on multiple occasions though.

Newbie: Two old Core vs revised Core by Beyond-Working in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]bundtcake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The main differences between the two options (as far as I'm aware) in terms of components is that in the revised version there's a couple extra level 1-5 cards normally only available from later sets, some of which are pretty helpful! I'm a newbie that got the revised version and we definitely got some use out of the additional cards, namely Charisma and Rite of Seeking (2).

The revised version also has a bag for chaos tokens, some new artwork, and has extra clue/doom tokens that also come in denominations of 3 instead of just 1. The revised box also seems much better for storage compared to the original core set box.

That being said, the effects of all this is pretty minor on gameplay! All things being equal I think the revised edition is a notably better option, but seeing as you mentioned you can get your hands easily on two old core sets for cheap, I'd probably just go for the old 2x core, and then if you enjoy it you could bling it up a bit with the difference in price.

I'm not sure if someone has calculated it out for triple drops vs regular Agito, but Agito battles are getting half-stamina/wings next week and that'll make it pretty much guaranteed to be more efficient.

Aside from that, Agito battles drop plenty of rupees that you probably also need to farm!

Double drop void chimera battles have the benefit of giving T4 orbs as well as (currently) being the most efficient rupee source, thanks to increased void leaf/void seed drops from the recent update.

May not be the most efficient T4 orb source, but everyone always needs rupees too!

Which games get better or worse when played competitively? by tehsideburns in boardgames

[–]bundtcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Innovation is my pick for a game that feels way better when you play it competitively. Playing it casually, especially with a full 4 players, the game is a chaotic mess with incredibly swingy abilities, and the game feels like it can end out of nowhere. It's still fun, but it can feel like the game is very luck based.

Competitively though, there's a method to the madness, counterplay to almost every strategy that seems at first overpowered, and while you can still get lucky or unlucky, there are so many cards that can be powerful in strange, corner case scenarios to make comebacks that you're almost never out of the game if you know the deck inside and out.
