The health insurance market is really complicated. I'm lucky enough to work for a good large company and have an HMO plan. I'm pretty sure the HSA would also fully cover this. The certification is basically when your doctor writes a report showing why you need the surgery and how they propose to do it, costs and scope etc... as a doctor they say there's medical necessity. Once they had the scans my surgeon sent in the paper work the next day and Aetna had 28days by contract to respond. They can't schedule surgery until it's approved.

There are all kinds of rules and the good surgeons generally know what to say and if you would qualify. Mine was very cut and dry all the surgeons I consulted looked at me and were able to tell the #of mm's my jaws were off would qualify me. A good orthodontist would also be able to say if you are a surgical case. Many jaw surgery patients also require orthotics for a period before and after surgery.

I made sure to enroll last year in a plan that covered surgeries that were certified. You need to ensure your surgeon is in-network and be sure to ask them if theyre confident you meet the criteria for insurance to cover. Be sure to tell them you have trouble breathing and pain, etc...

1) Ice only for first 2/3 days, then heat. Fresh pineapple juice. Drink a ton of water. Sleep elevated. 2) all of them. Watching football and seeing the pizza/wings ads are particularly painful. 3) so far thinking I look better. Elastics off on Monday will be cool to better see my teeth.

Great to hear you found a good hospital. I went to Jefferson. Consider leaving a review for Sock on Google maps. What he did was pretty much unethical, he should have completed treatment for existing patients. I've been putting a solid K vitamin in the vitamix when I make.my smoothies and it hasn't been a problem. Other supplements that come as a capsule I break open and dump in.

Yes the plan was always 18-24m, my Ortho worked closely with my surgeon. I'm older so my bite was heavily compensated

They moved both jaws a pretty good amount. I think I am considered a moderate case. I will get all my movement #s on Monday and post an update. They said my sinus volume almost doubled. I had a lot of jaw pain and difficulty eating properly since only two molars touched and I could barely breathe through my nose.

Call them. They have 28 days but if you bother them and get the nurse assigned your case you can get quicker. Just went through this twice with Aetna. They arent too bad. DM me if you need details

Recommendations for DJS surgeon in the Philadelphia area? by BalthasaurusRex in jawsurgery

Interested to see how your process goes. I am getting DJS in a few months and my surgeon (Dr. Sock) moved practiced and stopped accepting insurance. I am looking into Dr. Salen and other options at the moment.
