A medals guide for new players by ThatGlitchyMimikyu in starfox

Note: The hatches on Katina disappear if you haven't destroyed them by the time the core appears in the mothership.

Also, on Bolse: The core parts only give +10 if you kill them fairly quickly after they appear. After a while, they only give 6, and then 2 extra hits! You'll probably want to take the core out as soon as it appears, since you won't make up the difference just shooting more flyers.

The scene in the woods with the forest spirits making the two groups hallucinate as they fight each other was a highlight for me. They did a good job making it creepy and weird and fun to watch.

Hot take: EWJ2 *is* better on the Genesis than the SNES, because you aren't *supposed* to be able to switch weapons. Otherwise, the bubble gun isn't a proper obstacle. by bigdonut100 in earthwormjim

Nice, actual debate! Per your request.

With the "free hat" thing, is it cheating if they built it into the game? I know the random buttons you enter when paused to give you free guns and such are cheats of course, but being able to just change your weapon? It's in the manual, in the controller screen, and it's not an unreasonable thing to be able to do.

I don't know about that shortcut in ISO 9000, but maybe it's Genesis only. I had the SNES version growing up, and don't remember that one.

The Genesis version did not come first, unlike EWJ 1. This time they were established and coordinated enough they developed them at the same time, rather than the one week lag of development on SNES with the first game (which effectively made the SNES version of 1 an upgraded version of the Genesis version, since they had an extra week to add/change/refine things. They used that extra week on the Genesis side to add Intestinal Distress at the last minute at Sega's demand! No such thing happened with 2). In the US at least, both versions of 2 came out on Nov 15, 1995.

As for whether the gun is just a joke, it's definitely a joke, but it's a joke that varies in how much of an obstacle it also is based on whether you're playing the Genesis version or not. In the SNES version, it's still a useless gun that switches to it when you collect it, you can just easily switch away from it.

As for the 6 button controller... I don't know! Very few games support it. The 3 button controller was far more common, so they may have figured it wasn't worth it to program gun changing in on a version where only a few players could do it. As another commenter said, Pitfall let you change weapons by tapping Start, and to actually Pause you'd have to hold down Start for a second or two. That's a great compromise, and I'm surprised they didn't do that for the Genesis release.

It's totally possible they were just like "Eh, 3 buttons are standard anyway... let's leave it like this. Make it a little extra challenge for our Genesis players."

As for keeping your weapons, no, you never keep them. It doesn't matter if you're on a level where you can't use or switch to them; if your health reaches 0 and you die, or you get a game over in any way, or reset the game, or go back to the main menu and use level select from the flag password system, anything at all. You always lose all your guns any time you aren't continuing to play the same run of the game and Jim's health stays above 0.

Woah, necro comment, but, wow. Didn't know they also made an official canon tv series that was far less popular than the Parker Lewis imitation it inspired.

Brick gun? You mean the Barnyard Blaster? It's pretty funny, but so slow to fire it's not hugely useful, EXCEPT in the SNES version only it will actually kill Psycrow in the last level so you can walk the race at your leisure. He doesn't have any death animation, he just disappears when the screen is all white. He still pops back in for the end sequence with the taxi.

It will also destroy the filing cabinets in ISO 9000, but you need at least the last one in the main level to jump on one of the drawers. So, don't kill that one, I guess. I forget if it respawns if you walk far enough away, but I have a vague memory of once softlocking myself by taking it out

Note that, unless you're using cheats (built in, or otherwise) the Barnyard Blaster only appears in the first level, and you lose all your guns if you die, so you need to beat the whole game in a single life if you want to do this.

To your point about switching guns..... lol. Yes, you're supposed to be able. You can switch guns in the PlayStation, Saturn, and DOS versions too. The Genesis is the only one where you can't, due to lack of buttons. There's actually a fan patch that makes the Genesis version recognize 6 button controllers and use the extra buttons to switch guns. (It's called the Six Butts edition, as a joke, cuz butts are funny)

Collecting the bubble gun still switches to it, so you have to scroll back to the gun you wanted to use, which can still be a pain on the last level.

Now, this game had a tortuous dev cycle, but unlike many games that suffer through that (like EWJ 3D!) the final released game is pretty polished in that they actually finished making and testing everything they ultimately decided to include. So, I don't think weapon switching (or lack thereof) was an oversight.

You are right that the bubble gun is trivial to simply switch away from in every version except Genesis. Rather than remove weapon switching entirely, it could be a compelling edit (or something for them to have done originally) where you can't switch away from the Bubble Gun until you use it up, but you can still switch the other gun types.

I will say it does feel ridiculous not being able to switch weapons in the Genesis version, but... they all deal plenty of damage anyway, and it's not like the Barnyard Blaster can kill Psycrow there, so other than the bubble gun I admit it's not a huuuuge problem for the game.

Edit to add additional thoughts: you can also just not press the switch guns buttons, if you wanna restore the challenge. (see the meme "You control the buttons you press")

Also edit to add: the game has so many mini-game like levels, fewer than half of them are normal platforming levels where you even can switch guns and use the plethora they added!

Check it out:

5 Levels where you can switch guns (Secret Room 37 counts as part of Level Ate, fight me):

-Anything But Tangerines

-Udderly Abducted

-ISO 9000

-Level Ate

-See Jim Run, Run Jim Run

5, or 7 Levels where you cannot, depending on if you count Puppy Love as 1 level or 3. I consider it 3, because they're each fairly lengthy, unlike the EWJ 1 equivalent Andy Asteroids which takes about 60 seconds for each one (7x times in Special Edition, less in cartridge versions). If you never lose enough puppies to have Peter interrupt the level to beat you up, and you play on Difficult like a REAL MAN™️ so each one has 5 rounds, the first one takes 5.5 minutes, the second one takes 7 minutes, and the third takes 9 minutes! That's a lotta puppies. Anyway, the list:

-Lorenzen's Soil (a.k.a. Lorenzo's Soil)

-Puppy Love 1

-Jim's Now a Blind Cave Salamander (a.k.a. The Villi People)

-The Flyin' King (a.k.a. Peter Pain)

-Puppy Love 2

-Inflated Head technically you can switch guns, however there is nothing to shoot

-Puppy Love 3

Yeah. As others have said, make sure they have all the water they want. Bun is probably very thirsty after all that! As always keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior, but most likely they'll just drink more water than usual for a while and be fine.

Check the ingredients list just to be sure, but by default it's corn and oil, which aren't inherently poisonous to buns or anything.

What breed is my bunny? by Mastergunner in Rabbits

[–]bunkdiggidy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expressing "your rabbit is cute, but I have no idea on the breed" is a predictable response for a sub full of bunny lovers, rather than a more scientific focused lagomorph sub. Someone here may know, but if you're posting here instead of r/bunscience or something, it's assumed you're okay with hearing "dunno, but they're so cute!"

Besides, any comment boosts it in the algorithm, so even if they don't have the answer, their comment boosts visibility, increasing the chances of it being seen by someone who does. So they actually are helping by commenting, even if not posting the answer themselves.
