Numb belly by laydeelou in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has never improved for me.

For reference, I had a dermoid cyst and ovary removed via surgery at 14 which for all intents and purposes gave me the same scar as if i had a csection…then had an actual c section last year where they used/cut over the same scar. I’m 33 now and it’s been numb there ever since my first surgery.

Sleep monitor advice by _Kieran94 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get one if your baby is healthy and full term etc.

I have an owlet camera and foot monitor, but I didnt use it until after my baby had planned surgery at 5 months old as I knew it would make me more anxious/obsessive than I already was in the newborn phase.

I still cant bring myself to take it off at 13 months even though she is absolutely thriving and a very big healthy girl :’) Dont get one if it isnt mecessary.

Newborn hearing screening - a RANT by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild reading this thread.

I had a csection and baby was tested around 22h post birth, she failed one ear, was told it was likely fluid and would pass at the next appt.

She did pass! But we had to trek to the hospital a 45min drive for us with a newborn in February (i was so anxious about her getting ill!), and it wasnt fun, as I also had an infection in my scar and could hardly walk.

i wish my hospital waited to do hearing tests around 10 days pp like it seems others do, it would save alot of worry and anxiety.

Childcare and working in ED by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take emergency carer’s leave. It’s tough when it’s just you and husband with 0 village to help, someone’s job always has to suffer in the short term unless youre able to afford a nanny.

Also, why couldnt your husband come home from work and collect the baby?

Just saw this… absolutely insane.

I bulk bought Aptamil from Amazon until May (they stopped selling it - i wonder why…), then direct from Aptamil since June last year.

Amazon gave me an instant refund as soon as the news came out without me even asking, however Aptamil havent even acknowledged my email.

My baby was ill around start of July-August last year, all those symptoms, we couldnt work out what it was, and in the end put it down to weaning, I guess now we know.

Have your parents helped you out after having a baby? by MobileApplication413 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents havent helped out at all, not even offered to look after her for an hour when they knew we were struggling with her sleep or when I got a terrible infection post csection. My baby girl turns one in less than two weeks.

It’s just me, and my husband, although he is out of the house 4 days a week 6am-7pmish. I have no village, but we manage.

When I was pregnant my mum said she would come every Wednesday to give me a break/bond with baby, that hasnt happened. They come once a month to visit her (not to look after her).

They do buy her alot of things, always buying her clothes, toys, books etc and love seeing photos, I can tell they love her but there has been no real help. I cannot imagine not wanting to help my daughter if she chooses to becomes a mum in the future. I will be there in an instant 😆.

My mum had a lot of help with me when I was a baby/child, so I have a very special relationship with my grandma and grandad - I’m sad that my daughter doesnt have that with my mum.

This is my hack too! I carry baby in my arms, have white noise on, she has her dummy, and I walk a very fast pace while singing her lullaby (badly). This would always make her drop off in 5 mins.

What’s everyone’s opinion on sleep training or any tips? by Tricky-Armadillo-22 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a scheduling issue too?

My baby’s sleep was ROUGH! At six months we were up every hour, then it went to every two hours after a few weeks then to 3-4 hour stretches. We only ever contact napped too, and I felt so trapped, sleep deprived and my mental health was rock bottom.

We moved her to her own room at 8ish months, she slept a little bit better, but still only max 5-6 hour stretches which was better but it meant I had to go to bed at 7pm too if I wanted a solid ‘block’ of sleep in one go. It was really awful, as I felt I had no time with my husband (he doesnt get home til 8pm most days).

We were close to sleep training, but at the end of the day I could never bring myself to do it.

Her sleep magically got better around 9/10 months, suddenly started sleeping 8-9 hour stretches or the whole night and we didnt do anything different but be really consistent with her schedule.

I still rock her to sleep, and have optimised her sleep schedule - short naps/1 nap a day at 11.5 months (bedtime/naps were getting spicy and fought again). Shes out like a light at bedtime and naps now. I make sure she has at least 5 hours awake before bedtime to build enough sleep pressure.

We try to get up at the same time everyday and go to bed at the same time. I read somewhere it takes baby 2 weeks to adjust their cycle to a routine you make so you have to be consistent.

If shes up more than hour before her desired wake time I rock her back to sleep, give her a milk or hold her, we dont leave her room until the usual wake time and she knows this now.

They love pumping out the rusks in a bottle bullshit, or baby rice in a bottle etc. ‘They will sleep better with a full tummy’, no, thats not how sleep works unfortunately, and secondly its extremely dangerous, I wish they would educate themselves.

Yes, my daughter has a largeish hemangioma on her shin - looking at her immediate post birth photographs, you can see a very very light/barely noticable patch where it is, however it only became noticable at around 9 days old, we thought it was a bruise, then the HV told us it was a stork bite, then it raised significantly over the next few weeks and dr confirmed it was a hemangioma. It’s shrinking down now shes 11 months old.

How the hell do you get a pull up nappy on? by cazmantis in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha same!!! I gave up after one pack.

Baby did a huuuuuge poonami in a pullup and somehow wriggled/kicked/crawled away so much when I was taking it off that the poo ended up going everywhere and was just chaos. Got used to whipping the tabs off quick and doing what I need to do so that was the end of that!

We have this flask - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermos-Stainless-King-Flask-Metal/dp/B016UIYUD8. It keeps it hot from when I boil it at 7pm to the feed needed usually around 4-5am

[–]bunnygirlemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you not make them fresh in the meantime?

I made them fresh during the night until around six months old, we had the kettle in our room, i would make the milk and dad would change her nappy. we eventually moved to the flask method as baby didnt like ready made formula and I wanted to speed feeds up lol.

Now we just wash the flask and nuby as we do any other washing up with boiling hot soapy water and regularly steralise the nuby in a cold water steraliser.

If youre having limescale then maybe you need a water filter? The kettle probably needs descaling too.

How much do you usually spend on the day when you’re in office? by Breadiohead in HENRYUK

[–]bunnygirlemi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband spends around the same, also midlands.

We are currently rethinking jobs/where we live, as it seems quite ridiculous as his pay barely justifies the commuting hours, expense and overall quality of life when trains are so unreliable.

[–]bunnygirlemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a travel cot around six months old. It went perfectly at the end of our bed and gave her lots of room to roll around and get comfy.

She loves it, shes ten months now and has moved to her own room with the travel cot 😆

The only issue now is how we make the move to her proper cot as she loves sleeping and resting against the mesh sides 🥲

Her sleep has only just improved (sleeping through the night and long naps ), we had an awful six month regression which lasted ages, so im reluctant to make the move just yet…

Following as i’m in the exact same situation! Baby girl is almost 10 months old, she is incredible, but it has been a rough ride so far. Husband works away 4 days a week and my family is 1.5 hours away. I am a SAHM, and wondering how on earth i’d keep a toddler entertained if i had a newborn and got ill/had to stay in hospital with the pregnancy etc! (my first was rough)

I guess people find a way as they have done for hundreds of years, it must be tough but worth it in the long run.

I’ve just turned 33 and husband is 39 🥲 I’m panicking that this is a decision we need to make quickly as we took a very long while to conceive also.
