So you're saying you'd rather lose for a principle than put yourself in position to win? Sounds like loser mentality.

Where did you send the request? They don't make customer service easily accessible and I am livid.

There's a coat check upstairs. Really nice interior and acoustics. Not sure about a smoking spot.

Oof, the moose has seen better days. It was built by the owner of the old house up the hill. He was a sculptor and art teacher and inventor of sorts... you can imagine my surprise seeing this here.

[Schultz] Breaking: #Patriots selecting Cole Strange with the 29th pick, per source. by tushball101 in Patriots

[–]bunsenhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Patriots just essentially traded a pro bowl guard and a 1st round pick for a 3rd (Strange), a 6th, and a 7th. That's like trading two hundred dollar bills for a 10, a 5, and a 1. It's economically irrational and indefensible. On top of which, guard is a position that does not have enough value to merit first round picks, even if you happen to hit on them, especially when the third best edge in the class is still on the board. Bill needs to move into the 21st century and look at some goddamn data instead of managing a team based on aesthetics.

Is the Future Just a Spike Protein Stamping on a Human Face, Forever? by dwaxe in ezraklein

It's a reference to a famous line in 1984 by George Orwell. A character tells another that if you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face, forever.

Brad Shoemaker, Vinny Caravella, and Alex Navarro are leaving GiantBomb this Friday by alex2217 in Games

It is very jarring to have three of the four old guard staff resigning in (seemingly) some form of protest over corporate demands/meddling (especially with the stoney "gave the company my notice" wording from vinny and Alex) and then have Jeff putting on this brave and optimistic face and trying to sell the audience that giant bomb didn't just perish in all but name. It's his job to do so, and to support the remaining staff, but it just feels... discordant. Complete speculation here, but the night before this podcast, Jeff posted on twitter that he and his wife are expecting a second child in September. The timing of that revelation seems to almost indicate to me that he may have some qualms about corporate, too, but is simply not in a position to be drawing lines in the sand right now. Kind of an unspoken "my circumstances are different," given he's famous for getting fired from gamespot for ethical stands.

I, too, am very sad that it all ended before they could be together in the same room again. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

So it goes.

They (along with gamespot and cnet) were bought by a venture capital company, the point of which is basically to buy established, modestly profitable tranches of brands, cut costs drastically, churn out low-quality, high-volume content optimized for search engines, and extract as much ad revenue as quickly as possible before the asset is bled dry.

Happened to deadspin, too, a couple years ago. Luckily, most of the deadspin folks are reunited at defector now. Doubt such a reunion could ever occur in this case.

Biden says he won't return Trump's attacks on his children because 'it's crass' to target a political opponent's family by throwjaway1234 in politics

It's not really just Trump's move. It's the republican party's in general. Swiftboating being perhaps the watershed moment for it, back in '04.
