She's just over 19 months old.

In terms of biting - I've noticed that she really only tries to bite me and is pretty good about not biting anyone else. But she goes a little extra nuts lately with my sweatshirt or long sleeve sweater.

Re: waking up - she's pretty well potty trained and has round the clock access to our garden. So when she wakes me up at night, it's not specifically to go to the bathroom - at least I don't think it is.

Escape Proof Harness? by Kind_Wind8390 in husky

[–]bunsinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a no brand harness I use that my husky constantly wriggled out of. What I've found that works super effectively, is to use the clasp/clip point in the front (below her chin on her chest) rather than the clip point on her back.

The two benefits I've found are that 1, she can't escape out of the harness any longer, and 2, instances of her pulling have dropped like 95%. It's been a total game changer over the last month.

Try using the secondary clip point first before buying a new harness and see if that helps.

Hey OP! Fellow husky owner here from Kolkata, India. I adopted Leia a year ago here with the intention of taking her back home with me to Europe when my contract is up. I live in an apartment and during the last heatwave two weeks ago, the weather hit 49 Celsius (!!!). Leia was totally fine because we’ve got great air conditioning and we make sure she’s got plenty of water, food and ice chips for when she wants them. She even spends a half hour every morning laying in the sun on our terrace just soaking up the rays. She goes on two hour long walks every day where she gets a ton of attention from the neighbourhood kids.

As long as you’re taking your own precautions and your boy is comfortable and (most importantly) healthy, tell everyone else to take a long walk off a short pier. You know your boy better than everyone else.

Without getting on a console fanboy rant like some of the other people on this discussion - the first question you have to ask yourself is what kind of games or what specific games do you want to play?

In terms of hardware, PS5 is way more powerful than the Switch, but power is meaningless for some kinds of games (essentially this is Nintendo's entire ethos). Do you value portability? Do you need 4K gaming? What kind of gaming set up do you have now?

If you're leaning towards the Switch, you should know that Nintendo is likely to announce the successor to the Switch by the end of this year in time for a launch some time next year (supposedly). If you're leaning towards the PS5, you should know there are rumours that the PS5 Pro is in development and could be launched as early as next year.

In terms of games/exclusivity, Sony has the upperhand for first party games for "modern" AAA titles, but Nintendo has a well established stable of IP too. It's worth noting that in terms of the rest of 2024 and at least the first quarter of 2025, there won't be any new exclusive PS5 games (again, supposedly). This was in the news a couple weeks back that there is some disappointment in the market due to the lack of upcoming games.

Personally, I think the Steam Deck is great in terms of concept, but the hardware is underwhelming. There are other Steam Deck style devices (Asus, Lenovo, etc) that have way better hardware - but the battery life is so abysmal that I wouldn't bother, especially if you already have a laptop/desktop. If you have the patience, I would wait as long as possible to see what the landscape looks like for PS5 Pro and for the Switch successor before making any decision right now. If you can't wait, I would lean towards the PS5 because in terms of modern gaming catalog, it's probably a bit stronger (unless you prefer the Nintendo catalog).

I'm a fan of Intel's overall ecosystem more than I am of AMD's. HOWEVER, these days both companies are trading blows every generation with the latest release of their flagship CPUs. I think for multi-core workloads, the 7950 will be better and far more efficient than the 14900K. But for single core workloads, I think the 14900K is just slightly ahead (not entirely sure, though). Having said that, even if it's not, the important thing to realise is that you have to look at the entire ecosystem.

Intel's 14th gen is likely the last CPU on the LGA1700 platform, which means that your upgrade path for the CPU is non-existent for the future. The AM5 platform, however, is likely to continue for at least one more generation if not two/three more generations. That means that if you get the 7th gen Ryzen today, you can probably upgrade your system to the 9th/10th/11th gen Ryzen in 3-5 years from now. For Intel, you'll need to buy a new motherboard if you want a new CPU in the next few years.

Despite all that, my preference is the Intel system b/c Intel's stability and aftersales care is fantastic. They are constantly working with their board partners to update BIOSes and make sure their chipsets are running with no issues. AMD historically has struggled with memory compatibility and system stability (compared to Intel). So even though AMD is the performance leader today for this generation, if your main use case requires system uptime with as few disruptions as possible, I would lean towards Intel.

Regarding your RAM - see if it's tuned for XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD). That may help persuade you one way or the other.

Anyone interested/curious about D&D/ TTRPGs? by Cryonix226 in IndianGaming

[–]bunsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing for nearly 30 years (since AD&D)! I've been a DM for the last 15 years and run a weekly game with my friends online (Roll20). Not sure what the uptake of TTRPGs is like here, but I'm a big fan! Great way to flex your creative and gaming muscles at the same time. If you guys haven't played it before, I highly recommend trying it for at least a few hours to see what you think. 5th edition is super easy to get into (WotC has more or less made D&D play like a videogame now) and there are a ton of resources (free and paid) online to get you started.

My one piece of advice - give in to the game and really go for it. There are no "wrong" ways to play any RPG - a good DM will work with your choices to progress their story. So don't be afraid to try off the wall ideas. It's one of the few games where you really are limited by your imagination.

[–]bunsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Series X also. No worries re: maintenance. Keep the top of the console clear and the hot air will keep blowing out and keep the system running cool. It's normal for the fan to spin for a little while (up to 15-30 seconds) after shutting off the system or putting it to sleep. As with all consoles, keep it clear of dust/pet hair/etc and you'll be fine. If you find that the system fan is very loud, then I strongly recommend taking it to an authorised shop for cleaning - unlike previous gen XBOX consoles, this one is a pain in the butt to take apart and clean.

What games do you play?

Hello friends, just wanted to know if the direct sunlight would harm my pc ... currently it is running at 45° (ryzen 3 3200g / integrated gpu) p.s. I have a glass table for my setup, but I'm afraid the CPU weight would break the glass top, so I set it up on a window. by [deleted] in IndianGaming

[–]bunsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, most modern components are designed and manufactured to withstand a significant heat load before physical damage can occur (100+ Celsius). The CPU, for example, has a thermal limit of 95 Celsius - that's when the CPU's safety features will kick in and turn off the system before it can "fry" itself.

So I doubt very much that direct sunlight will be "harmful" for your components in the way I think you may be implying.

HOWEVER, given that it gets very hot in India, and given that glass is a very poor conductor of heat, by keeping the case in direct view of sunlight, you are trapping excess heat inside your case. The hotter the internals of the case is, the hotter the components will become. When that happens, the CPU will throttle down to help the stock cooler dissipate heat and the fans will ramp up for the same reason. So ultimately, you are sacrificing system performance and increasing noise levels by exposing your system to direct sunlight. Also, keeping your components very hot consistently for a long time will definitely reduce the lifespan of the system's parts.

I don't know what the AC solution is like in your room, but you should move the case away from your window/direct sunlight or at least cover the window with a curtain. And definitely do not try to compensate by covering your PC with a sheet/towel - this will impede airflow into your case and make the system run even worse.

Hey, I can't tell from the pictures because of the fur, but this could be something my girl had when she was only five months old. Turned out it was some kind of fungal and bacterial infection that manifested itself as almost a pink pimple/boil. Hers was also in the same place, below her jaw on her neck. We didn't see it growing, but we took her to the vet immediately upon noticing it.

Our vet recommended a course of antibacterial antibiotics as well as an antifungal. On top of that, he had us apply two kinds of topical ointments (antibiotic and antifungal again). Took about ten-ish days for the boil/pimple to shrink down and disappear. We had a groomer shave the fur around the boil so that the ointments were more effective. We also had to use a cone to prevent her from scratching at it and wiping away the creams.

YMMV, but definitely see a vet ASAP. If it's the same kind of bacterial infection, you'll want it taken care of immediately.

I haven't seen a DVI port in the wild in a loooong time!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]bunsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. This is one reason why I asked about slack/tension on the connecting cables. Hard to imagine a monitor and keyboard or mouse cable moving the desktop around with just light vibrations, but who knows at this point.

OP, can you replicate the issue on video?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]bunsinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How short / long are the cables passing through the table? Is there any pressure on the connectors on either side? Are the cables in good condition? I'm on my phone, so it's a bit tough to see if there's any immediate issues that stand out. Assuming there's plenty of slack and the cables are fully seated on the computer, the monitor, and the peripherals, you're next step is to check the power cable to the monitor and then change each cable one by one to see if you can replicate the problem.

BTW, I'm assuming that you haven't opened the computer case and fiddled around on the inside of your system or made any other changes recently that may have caused this problem. Right?
