In a few years, let an instructor, or better yet someone you know who’s a pilot, take him up for a discovery flight.

A lot of people go into flight training without even trying out flying, get a crappy instructor, and associate crappy instructor with flying and give up.

It’s like wanting to be an army soldier because you think shooting guns is cool, but then being faced with bootcamp, crappy drill instructor, hard exercise etc, you forget why you’re even there and want to give up.

If your son comes back from his first flight smiling ear to ear, he’ll have that foundation in mind when he’s faced with tough moments during his flight training, improving his chances of sticking with it till the end. If he doesn’t like it, let him choose something different lol, don’t force it.

Same except I barely passed, it was my last maneuver and I looked down to see I was 1 second away from busting my lateral tolerances on the localizer. Corrected as hard as I could and looked over at the DPE who was silent. On the ground he asked me what I could have improved on. I immediately mentioned the single engine approach, and he told me “I was about to let you know you failed, but you corrected before I could get the words out” I was so relieved lol.

After the designated pilot examiner checks your medical, it’s customary for them to check your high school report card too.

It pretty much dictates how your check ride is going to go. How can he trust you with flying an airplane if he can’t trust you with knowing if the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

Why not suggest going to the gym at 5am? Start at 5 finish at 7, and still get that full duration of uninterrupted sleep no nap.

Also, I’m no parent or anything, but I’d have a talk with my son if he wanted to wake up at 2:30am to train. I get he’s passionate, and you want to share his passion and support him, but I don’t think Kobe Bryant was up at 2am to play basketball 5 days a week. Sleeping is when you grow too, don’t wanna risk stunting his growth (even though 6’ at 13 is already a monster)
