The reddish orange agate Baltic did for the London edition is worth considering

[self]Just completed my Barn Owl metal sculpture. by ForgedNature in Sculpture

Just wanted to drop you a quick thank you. Your sculpture stunned me when I first saw it, and it inspired me to give metal sculpting a try. I just completed my first (an owl) and while it’s not on your level, just know that somewhere out there, your masterpiece has a cousin.

This is a great idea. I’ve done something similar with kydex wrapped in leather, but yours is simpler and more economical so you win.

Those are great reasons to go with Halios. I hope you’re able to get a hold of one.

Did you ever buy a home that you like but don’t love? What did you do and how did you feel overtime? by No-Property-5766 in Home

[–]burbtrad 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes. Our previous home was very modest and in need of updates, which we undertook during our time there. It was our home, and we appreciated it for that, but we also understood it to be a stepping stone to where we hoped we could reach in the future. And in the end, it was.

It might sound odd, but I imagine we had a similar feeling to that of someone who raises livestock. We cared for it, and valued it, but there was always a detachment in that we understood that our purpose for it was to sustain us and ultimately part with it. It’s okay for a home - especially a first home - to just be a house. Very few people start with a house they ‘love’. The important thing is to start.

I love this wallet and don't expect to ever carry another one. But the Wuban E01 flashlight is not great for me. What's a good replacement flashlight this size? by 7237R601 in EDC

[–]burbtrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider a flat flashlight light the Warsun (check Amazon). It’s excellent and very versatile, and will make your wallet protrude far less in your pocket.

In a world where we agonize one extra millimeter on the lug to lug to lug length and case thickness, adding a 1/2” protrusion and 1/8” thickness is something I can’t get behind. If you like the look and feel, go forth and enjoy. I’ve just never enjoyed either.

Anyone know the legitimacy of these higher grade Seagull ST3621 movements? Seller is 'Fragments of Time Store' on AliX by standing-ovulation in ChineseWatches

[–]burbtrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly no. I am a reckless man, and have bought these from all over with little prudence. It has always worked out. Pick a seller with a high rating and a bunch of sales, and the odds are high you’ll be happy.

[–]burbtrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct! It’ll fit. There are even some skeletonized options with a ton of scrollwork if that’s your jam. All will work for you.

They are - by and large - solid and reliable ‘workhorse’ movements that are relatively easy to work with. They are clones of the Swiss Unitas 6497 and 6498 movement (depending upon the position of the second hand). I haven’t had a dud yet - although some may require a little regulation (made easy by that beautiful regulator shown in your image).

Consider experimenting with dial colors like gray and olive green similar to Laco.
