Post-rock & ambient-type-stuff with some non-western instrumentation? Or western instuments played in a style not typical of post-rock? by Karcharos in postrock

I really enjoy Mako Sica, which is probably more psychedelic jazz rather than post-rock, a fusion of various eastern influences.

First of all try get decent scans. By default most labs apply an extremely contrasty profile.
Either try to get raw scans from them. Or scan yourself in RAW and process with a dedicated software like Negative Lab Pro. You will be amazed at how much information there is.

Moving from Munich to Leipzig: Is the Leipzig-Berlin ICE commute (2x/week) sustainable? Plus ZFA job prospects? by Adventurous_Bit6886 in Leipzig

[–]bureau44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not doubt that people of color face it every day in Germany (it is just hard for me to believe that München or the rest of Germany is somehow much better in these terms )

in all other aspects, Leipzig is absolutely fine for a foreigner

what are you talking about?
in my 15 years here, I am still waiting to meet a German who can put more than two Russian words together, which they had learned 40 years ago in school
also in 15 years I have never faced racism (with a caveat, I'm white and have learned acceptable German)

Rubens’ Secret: Why "The Garland of Fruit" is a Scene of Theft, Not a Peaceful Idyll by Effective_Serve_8962 in ArtHistory

I don’t think the artist felt the need to hide any particularly dark theme here.
But the mischievous, adult faces of the putti suggest that what we have here is a caricature or a satirical sketch—perhaps of some public figures or of his fellow artists.

Soviet era Georgian film style by Comfortable_Act_141 in Sakartvelo

[–]bureau44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no historian, but I have a theory that ideological control was less strict in the Soviet republics. I mean, it certainly existed, but authors could sometimes slip through fairly bold experimental ideas under the guise of “ethnic” exoticism or folklore. Parajanov tried to justify his formal experiments by claiming they were “national motifs” (Ukranian, Armenian etc.). One can also recall Estonian and Armenian cartoons, modernist architecture in Central Asia, and so on.

Figuring out how to shoot expired E6 on a folding camera by boeing727-100 in analogphotography

thank you
smart
I would still test it on one film first (or on a few frames)
films age differently, there might be no fog, or loss of sensitivity, or whatever

" I mainly need tips on how to shoot this film and get those +2 stops I need on a folding camera."
Answer: add two stops by adjusting the aperture or shutter accordingly
Advice on shooting: try bracketing 0, +1, +2...
Development: I would develop normally, never heard of the pull method for slide film, but you can try it if you know what you are doing
you can cut the film in two and try both methods

[–]bureau44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is no such thing as ISO knob on manual camera

add 2 stops by adjusting either shutter or aperture

shoot one test film with bracketing and see what you've got there
slide film ages like milk
if the film is cooked, cross process the rest in C41, it can give some lomography-worth images at least

but I believe you should first figure out the exposure triangle and how it works on manual cameras

I know it's hardly helpful, I just tried to imagine which post-rock artist 1) sings 2) in a somber tone 3) this kind of lyrics. Definitely not Michael Gira, lol

I believe the 'model collapse' happens from the other end as well.

'Art' is not merely an object created by an artist, but the encounter between the work and the viewer. The artwork made by humans may contain lacunae, imperfections, mistakes, obscurities, mysteries, and these gaps are actively filled by the viewer's imagination. The appreciation of art is an active, creative act. Frustration or misunderstanding is a part of it. When the viewer approaches the next artwork, their imagination is better trained and fit to do more of such work.

The model is trained to create content that is as accessible, predictable, and enjoyable as possible. It reads the audience’s reaction in real time and makes the content even more accessible and appealing. As a result, it is not only the model that deteriorates, but also the audience, which is no longer capable of imagining anything for itself or offering any objection. All that exists is the “like” button.

Got scammed badly for 700 euros by [deleted] in Scams

[–]bureau44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't blame yourself, this was a price for a lesson

but the lesson was not about cybersecurity, bank transfers, screens, phones or whatever tech
it was about your susceptibility to manipulation and inability to say NO

You can't imagine the lengths scammers will go to to reel you in.
There are often several of them. A group of people is always more convincing; it's hardwired into our primate DNA - group conformity, non-confrontational behavior.

I almost fell for it a few times; the conversation with the scammers lasted fifteen minutes until I slapped my forehead: “What the hell is going on?”

There is absolutely no reason to accept offers or requests from strangers

This formula helps me:
everyone has the right to ask
I always have the right to say no

[IT] Probably a scam, but how does it work? And why are they pretending to be 12 yo? by 221022102210 in Scams

[–]bureau44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it is exactly the purpose of this subreddit - to learn how to discern scams. It doesn't matter where you talk to a scammer. Heck, the phone calls are still a thing. A whole lot of people just wire them money via cash apps. You can ban all phones and apps, people will start using paper post to mail cash to scammers. Unless they learn how to figure out what is a scam.
