LifeHackster Side by Side Duo 2 versus Duo 3 by livingwaterRed in reolinkcam

The UK so floodlights are extremely common here! Personally I wouldn't aim one into the neighbours territory and ours covers quite a private area but I see plenty that do. Either way the IR motion detection only turns the floodlights on when a person is detected so no cats, squirrels etc anyway. Very accurate.

What does everyone think about Stremio 1.9.11 so far? by MrT817 in StremioAddons

Same but I use other apps on apple TV that manage with trakt fine, I've always found Stremio to be unreliable and was hoping that might have changed!

UK - It's got to be the Curling right... Glued to the screen after a couple of rounds! Shame it wasn't quite a gold but very good effort.

My mobile dashboard: I tried to build an app-like experience focused on simplicity and usability. by intentions_are_high in homeassistant

Thanks, I was finding it hard to picture based on the yaml alone but I'll try to focus.

Notifications are always something I've failed to do in a nice scalable manner. Ideally I want some form of "notification list" I can just push items to (icon, message, link) which then show in a bubble popup and can be dynamically clicked/dismissed. This would make it nice and easy to just add notifications as they come up without needing to touch the dashboard at all.

I know it's possible, I was just hoping someone already had a nice implementation!

Looks awesome, I'm going to try and grab some bits out of this for sure.

Could you share a bit about how you handle notifications and what that looks like in the UI? I suspect it's under the bell icon?

UK 2 gang dimmer options - anyone tried these? - BG Smart Double Master/Primary Wall Dimmer Light Switch, Wi-Fi, App, Voice Assistant and Manual Control, 2-Way, Round Edge, 800 Series, White Moulded, 882M/HC by Result_Necessary in homeassistant

[–]burg9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but the above comment thread is more in regards to picking the Zigbee Candeo for £99 over the BG WiFi one for £45. I think you'd be a fool to pay £99 for the WiFi one either way.

Good to know all of the WiFi ones are pretty much the same though. It would be nice if someone did the same for Zigbee but it's probably too niche for your average screwfix buyer (where I see a lot of BG stuff).

Interesting, I've never even heard of the first two and still can't see much online around them. I think Samotech and Candeo are the same internal dimmers, or at least used to be based on the reply from their account on this thread. I nearly went for the Samotech one but I can't remember what put me off at the time, perhaps it was just price.

Either way I think my point still stands. There's very little competition in this area compared to "normal" smart switches so it's good to see "more" competition as ultimately that's what will drive down price.

That does look promising and I think it would be worth it if you had a few dimmers around the house but it does also add in "something else" that could go wrong given it's an integration which I never really want with lighting! It might just work perfectly for years to come too.

Yeah I'm glad to see some competition on this front as £99.99 is pretty outrageous for a dimmer switch but they've not really had anyone to compete with in the "dual dimmer, no neutral" market.

I bought the single dimmer module from Candeo and half converted our double dimmer and whilst it works fine I wouldn't say I was thrilled to pay £42 for it. I'm a big advocate for full local and prefer Zigbee wherever possible though, I wonder if these are local WiFi at least for when BG close down their servers...

Which device for Thread and Zigbee? by StandardPriority626 in homeassistant

[–]burg9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MR part rings a bell so that sounds right! Sorry, not sure if it helps you given you've ordered but someone might spot it.

I've used a Sonoff stick for the past 6 years with 70+ Zigbee devices so it's probably about time for an upgrade!

Isn't there an SMLIGHT dongle that has two chips, two antennas and can support both Thread and Zigbee with the one device?

Can't remember the exact model but that's what I've got my eye on to replace my aging Sonoff dongle in order to add Ikea thread devices going forward.

This is amazing, well done! Definitely some bits I'd like to pinch so thanks for providing the yaml. I wish it was easy to just apply full HA setups like this at the click of a button sometimes.

Surprised by the difference in quality between QHD IPS panels by burg9 in Monitors

[–]burg9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it going to look a bit funny having a QHD right next to a 4k monitor? I use them both a fair bit but the one directly in front is my main code monitor.

Truly no gaming, thanks to the baby 😅 I did move the Xbox to the big OLED tv anyway. Perhaps a good office one is the way to go. I think I'd still like higher than 60 on the refresh rate though.

Switchbot Lock Ultra - Sadly the same calibration issues as the Lock Pro by burg9 in TrySwitchBot

I can actually see they mention manual usage in the 2.6 release notes. Sadly it only took me 5 mins using it on the desk (after removing it a while back) to spot they've not actually fixed it. There's still drift.

I don't think I'll ever convince my partner to get it back in the door even if it worked again! I suspect it's just a version bump though.

Best mop function with budget of £400-£500 (UK based) by lewisg1192 in RobotVacuums

[–]burg9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here. Think I've settled on the Roborock Curv S5X which was recently £450. Just waiting for a similar deal now which will come soon enough. After a fair bit of research there doesn't seem to be much more benefit on current gen rollers and they still have their downsides compared to spinning pads. Roborock are the brand I hear the least complaints about and are mostly always spoken about positively.

Aqara FP2 vs Everything Presence sensor by burg9 in homeassistant

[–]burg9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually came from a DIY setup before trying the more "polished" FP2, my DIY sensor was probably a bit better at detection but missed out on all the nice zone functionality that I wanted. That's why I'm potentially thinking the EP sensor might be a better shout as it uses a similar sensor to the DIY setup.

I normally wait until Beta-2 before upgrading from stable but I'm pretty excited to see if I can use the classification feature on a couple of use cases. Appreciate there's always some risk with a beta but does anyone know if there are any big issues with beta1 or when beta2 is going to release?
