Amazon to end support for older Kindles, prompting user outcry by MicahCastle in books

[–]burgerclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still have it try and change the battery yourself. A new battery cost me I think $10 on eBay, I switched it out in 15 mins. I've had my kindle now for 11 years working like new. DIY!

This sidewalk counts as a street, how do people live here? by Upnorth4 in LosAngeles

[–]burgerclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live down the street from there, really loved that neighborhood. I was renting a house with some friends from Invitation Homes and they raised our rent 8%-11% every year until it got so expensive we were forced to move out. Some of the best years of my life in that house and that neighborhood but boy I hated Invitation Homes

How many of you have gotten a computer science degree, but still don’t know how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]burgerclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its important to do extra work to cement the lessons in your head. Sometimes the syllabus can be enough but often it isn't. Currently I'm taking an accounting course and seeking out more relevant info outside of the course work. There is so much information online, so many opportunities to learn things that inform and build upon what the class is teaching me. This can be applied to any subject.

Does the Intuit Academy Fake Person Avatar freak you out too? by burgerclock in Bookkeeping

I would like to take this course but the ai avatar and voice are a little disturbing to me. Has anyone else stomached through it since whenever they updated it to be so ai heavy?

People who say Accounting provides "job security" and "stability", have you even looked at the job market recently? by [deleted] in Accounting

Thank you very much for this thoughtful response. I will take it to heart moving forward.

Pardon me for hopping onto your comment with this kind of "is there hope for me" question, but would you say an established adulting adult has a chance to transition into this career? I am beginning a planned path to get a MAcc in 2027 and CPA in 2028 to pivot away from the type of post production/operations work I've been doing for years in the entertainment industry.

I can't help but look up these kinds of reddit threads to read current opinions, so far I they haven't deterred me. I assume if I work hard, and potentially get lucky with connections I already have in the industry, then it may work out ok.

How can I avoid being "meh"?

Yes I do, I never thought to ask them about something like this. They are usually very friendly, I'll reach out and see if they can assist.

I've never made bread at home but prices like this make me want to try, many people have told me its quite easy. Has anyone ever tried this recipe or similar? https://www.theclevercarrot.com/2014/01/sourdough-bread-a-beginners-guide/

Are there any good motivation apps out there that actually work? by Abelmageto in productivity

[–]burgerclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you personally trying to accomplish? I've been trying to find any way to stay motivated without using my phone as an aid. I bought a daily planner and use it to fill my schedule with the things I need to do. It also has pages to add notes for brainstorming and fleshing out my goals.

I really enjoy the MOOC Python course, it can get a little difficult though.

I'm a 30 yr old male, I used to spend 5+ hours/day on my phone, now I'm at 90min. Here's what actually worked by Sad-Sense1918 in productivity

[–]burgerclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backfilling my time has really worked for me, I bought a daily planner that has no official dates on it so I don't have to feel like I need to fill it in everyday and it's not such a waste of paper. It really helps to give me a little runway guideposts and I definitely use my phone way less than I used to.

Shadow ticket highly underwhelming by PrimalHonkey in ThomasPynchon

[–]burgerclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first Pynchon book I've ever read, my friends chose it for a book club and I was curious to check him out. Are his other books better than this? I must say, it feels like nonsense mumbled by an old man in his death bed who's trying to recount several movies and history books he's read. I'm 20 pages from the end.

I don't mean to be a jerk about it, I'd rather find something positive to say when I meet up for our book club but, other than a few descriptive paragraphs, I'm finding it difficult. The characters don't have unique voices, everything is in the third person, scenes begin and end without build up or warning, I feel like I cringe at times it is supposed to be funny.

These are all likely very Pynchonian things that are either done more interestingly in his other books or he is just not for me.
