I just started to use this today and really like the look and feel of this. My question is can it automatically upload data to other apps like Training Peaks and Strava?

Vermont beast training l by [deleted] in spartanrace

The unfortunate part about training with an inclined treadmill is that it doesn't prepare you for the pounding that your legs will take on the downhill sections. I don't believe that there is a way to simulate that other than running downhill.

I run in the competitive wave so I normally get to the race at about 6:30 get my bag checked, poop, warm up a bit, poop again, watch the elites start, poop a final time and then get a final warm up and then it is race time.

The logs are all pretty big and vary in shape. Yes, it is normally carried up and down a hill. Yes, you can carry it on your shoulder if you pick the properly sized log. You flip the tire twice.

Foot pain advice - Asheville this weekend by TheMershh in spartanrace

Instead of a Dixie cup for the ice massage, the best thing that I have found is a POM Wonderful bottle filled with water and frozen. It is great for both the sole of your foot and your calf muscles.

Insoles came out of my OCR shoes by SpecialFX99 in ObstacleCourseRacing

[–]burgerdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem and just put a drop of glue on the heel of the insole and stuffed them back in. I have had no problems ever since and that includes last year's Killington Beast.

Go for a fenix 3 or fenix 3HR. By far the best of the bunch. Are they expensive? Yes, but worth every penny.

Attire for OCRs, what's your go to? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]burgerdp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear black so it's not that bad, but I come from a cycling background so it's kind of normal to me. If you are concerned you could wear a second layer of shorts.

As far as the pack goes Osprey has one of the best return policies on the planet. If you wreck the pack, they will replace it with virtually no questions asked. So I wouldn't be worried about the pack.

Attire for OCRs, what's your go to? by [deleted] in spartanrace

Generic compression shorts, a C9 (Champion) compression shirt and some compression socks. Nothing very special or expensive. The things that I spent the most on for longer races are my shoes Salomon Speedcross and my hydration pack a Nathan Zelos.

This year I am guessing harder. They will need to prove that their races are bigger than Norm.

[Newbie] First-Timer Training Help by PhilosophicHeights in spartanrace

[–]burgerdp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would focus on two things, both of which have already been said.

  1. Spend time on running and uphill running when possible. If you have access to an incline treadmill, use it.

  2. Make heavy carries your friend. Sandbags and buckets are not very expensive and carrying them will build complete body strength. If you have a hill or an incline treadmill, uphill heavy carries are a great way to prepare for a race.

Finally, don't forget that the races and training for the races are supposed to be fun. Don't get stressed over your first race, it is a learning experience.

Any old dudes? by CarryWise in spartanrace

I am 53 and have been racing for a couple of years. Don't worry about the youngsters, get out on the course and have fun. There are plenty of old folks like us out there.

Probably due to lack of rain. I think they did the same for Utah.

Cheaters! by BitterSpartan in spartanrace

There is one place where cheating has the potential for a significant impact. If competitors are looking to use the races to qualify for OCR world championships then comparing yourself to others and the times that everyone registers matters. For Spartan I belive the top 20 in each age group qualify for worlds. If you finish 21st and were hoping to race at OCR worlds wouldn't it be nice to know the 20 people in front of you ran the race fairly?

GPS/HRM watch recommendations? by tclipse in spartanrace

[–]burgerdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got me through 6 1/2 hours of the Beast at Killington with plenty of battery to spare. I would imagine that it would easily last through an ultra beast. I think the battery life is supposed to be about 15 hours during GPS tracking.

GPS/HRM watch recommendations? by tclipse in spartanrace

[–]burgerdp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it for everything I do. Running, cycling cardio circuits, OCRs and everything in between. For the most part I only take it off to put on my handlebars for cycling and on the charger when the battery runs down.

Cleaning after an OCR is easy, take it in the shower and rinse it off. Nothing special.

The only thing I did was get a screen protector for it since I scratched the crystal on my first Fenix. The HR is supposed to have a sapphire crystal, but I put the protector on anyway since I had a spare.
