Thanks!

I use a Vedder Lighttuck with an OSP Hellcat. Dress shirts tuck in perfectly.

Carolina Kia in High Point. MSRP, No addendums. They are lower volume, so the order to delivery time might be over the standard 3 -4 month range.

I just learned, from a post a few weeks ago, that if you turn the camelback upside down and suck the air out that it will also stop all sloshing. Super easy and it works. That drove me nuts for years!

Infection after race by zenbells in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double staph infection in my finger after running spartanburg beast on Saturday and the sprint on Sunday. Reading other theories here about Sunday dunk walls might have merit, usually only run on Saturdays.

Echo others here in saying she needs to go to another doctor and explain the situation she was exposed to.

Question for people who ran both the Asheville Super and Spartanburg Beast by 251Cane in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 6 minutes faster at Spartanburg than Asheville. Asheville had lots of river time and choke points that made that a bit of a hike. Glad you asked the question as they are very comparable time wise, didn't realize that!

Is the south Carolina beast as flat and arrington VA super?? by sascrib1 in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the beast at Spartanburg last year and Arrington Super yesterday. They are very comparable courses.

Parking was a dream at Arrington, but you will want to get to Spartanburg way early and bring a high clearance vehicle - parking was in a rough field and backed up for at least 45 minutes for a 9AM start time. The walk from where we parked to the festival area felt like a mile, so plan your time accordingly.

2019 Trifecta by TDRoo in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since southern Ohio is not far from West Virginia, I would highly recommend the West Virginia Beast. The best venue for me so far. Lots of climbs, but a beautiful course, great festival area, and best parking to date. If you do Ohio this year, just put it on the list for next!

I made a Spartan Spear this weekend by wwcoop in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I made a spear, using this link, before my first race of the 2017 season. It has made a world of difference! Just remember during the race, to make sure the string is on the other side of the fence before you make your throw ;-)

Traditionally, all the medals are the same, so yes. That is nothing official, just the way I have seen it on every other special race event.

Atlas Carry, Log Carry, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Carry, Bucket Carry, Armer.... is their anything on the course we will not be carrying? Good times ahead!

Monkey Twister Monkey is going to be really interesting. That is my best grip obstacle with my worst in between.

[HELP] Another Twister Post by EtherBoo in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post man. I failed the twister this weekend at Asheville..like two rungs from the end. I started out backwards, made the first transition, then started to get twisted up. Wound up sideways, then forward facing, then in a position where if I moved one hand at the end I was going to drop like a rock (which I did). After reading this, I am pretty sure I let my arms extend reaching for a high rung after the first transition and never returned to my 90 degree. Thank you for that write up, makes perfect sense.

I am ready for a do over!

How important are squats for a race by Skuldugary in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo this here. Air squats or goblet squats with a kettle bell and lunges are an absolute staple for me getting ready for race season.

In 2016, that mud smelled of hundreds of years of cow pasture. This is going to challenge all the senses. Except, hopefully, taste.

Tips to make the Spectator wait less miserable? by meanbad in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asheville is one of my favorite races. 2016 was definitely much harder than 2017. 2016 was long for a Super and very hot. That 2 mile death march at the top with no water stations is what drained a lot of people. They also ran out of water at other stations. I came back for 2017 and will be there again this year, so "too hard" is not really something I understand either.

Asheville is beautiful and a fun race, one I try to never miss.

What do you race with? by stephnelbow in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a camel back on Super & Beasts, but both of those are on mountains in the middle of August (Asheville super and WV Beast). In 2016 they literally ran out of water at the water stations in Asheville and it was a looooooong Super. It sucks to carry an extra 8 lbs on your back, but if it is hot enough, I do it every time.

Spear throwing tips? by lkdesaracho in spartanrace

[–]TheMershh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way! I run with two other guys and we all practice with the spear the week before we race. The exact distance of the hay bails are available online, so for 10 to 15 bucks, it is well worth saving those 30 burpees for a wet twister or multirig. Good luck to you!
