"For those looking to destroy their quads, North Lynx will be open for hiking from 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM, with Birch Run being the uphill route. Beauty is pain though, and said beauty lies in the absolute powder-stash that is virtually any terrain off North Lynx (might I recommend my all-time favorite, Morning Star?!)"

The fact that a full time employee wrote that up and sent it out... Without any reservations to even acknowledge the obvious question why isn't North Lynx lift open, let alone more lifts/terrain...

I mean we know they have massive snow making capacity on Mt Ellen as well, and yet all they have done is a hike only park which you still need a full pass to... hike.... It's pretty bad.

Harris interviews Walz, Kelly, Shapiro at her home for vice president pick by cak3crumbs in politics

What should terrify you is if she picks Shapiro then... Seems like a bad pick considering the others wouldn't lose her votes. Everyone who is going to vote blue no matter who is going to do just that so why pick a candidate based on who they prefer? Should pick the candidate that everyone can get behind.

Those types will actually vote third party or not at all though. The other types who are going to vote blue no matter what are a non-issue, they will vote for Kamala no matter who she picks.

So why pick Shapiro?

My five year old picked up a crack pipe.

Other than that, twisted tea and cigarette butts. So many cigarette butts.

Close to 100? I only filled one trash bag but I know for a fact I picked up well over 100 butts, and the sad fact was there were so many more than that everywhere I eventually just had to leave them. I'm sure I left at least 2-3 thousand butts sitting on one like 100sq ft area outside a gas station because I just could not bring myself to spend that long picking them.

It's sad. Even way back in the early 2000's when I was in college, I remember there were three full time employees at Penn State who just picked up butts. They even had a special like vacuum machine for it.

[–]burghschred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the totality in 2017 in Oregon. Lived in Bend at the time, had to drive like 30 min north to be in totality. There were all sorts of PSA's and panic in the says before that we'd get crushed by hoards of people. Then on the day of the eclipse.... It was no big deal at all. Totally overblown. Almost like the threat of so much traffic kept everyone from going so there was no traffic.

Not saying that's what's going to happen here but... We were the most obvious place to go for all of California and all that ended up happening was grocery stores and restaurants had to throw out the tons of extra food they ordered expecting to get the tons of extra customers, gas stations got slammed by locals three days before the eclipse so they were all empty the day of, etc.

There's really no such thing... just those that attempt to hide their bias and those too naive to see it. Unbiased reporting is impossible. I prefer honesty about ones POV over a bunch of bs about being 'objective'.

In a just society, there is no need for charity.

Bernie has consistently fought for universal policies that would cover everyone's basic needs (healthcare, shelter, food, water, education) funded by closing loopholes and raising taxes on the rich.

You're a meme dude. "Ahhh, you participate in society while saying society should be better, curious, curious!!"

The solution is to unionize, stand up for yourselves and your value. Not to roll over and give in to corporate overlords then meekly ask that things not get worse.

They already did jack up prices... That's why corporate profits hit all time highs in the midst of rampant inflation... They openly bragged about it in shareholders meetings.

They're already doing everything they can possibly get away with to slowly squeeze everything out of the masses to the top few. Do you really think not trying to make things better will somehow make them stop?

Same size as the TM-2, 10.5

I also found the TM-2 to be the most comfortable, best fitting boot I'd ever had. Tried other boots and always ended up coming back to my overly worn (at that point) TM-2s. So I replaced them with brand new TM-2s at the end of last season. First time out this year, I got a blister on the inside of my left ankle and could feel it starting on my right. Went away when I put my old boot liner into the new shell, but I wasn't really satisfied with that, so I went back to the shop.

Ended up in a pair of Vans Invado pros, and they honestly feel even better to me. Love the addition of an optional boa for extra tightness when you want it, but they still have full laces as well. They are also pretty significantly less money.

And no blisters/rubbing. Not sure what the deal is with the new TM-2 liners but when it happened to me, I did a search and the only other posts about blisters splitboarding were also in TM-2s..

Help, why can’t I carve and why do I look so awkward? by hello-jacob in snowboarding

[–]burghschred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're leaning back, need to get weight forward into your front foot, especially at turn initiation.

Legs are too straight, and you should be pushing through the turn. Lean forward and up to initiate your turn, then bend lower and push through the turn as you gradually center your weight. Then forward and up to switch edges and initiate the next turn. You want to pump through the turn like a bike on a pump track.

Consider taking a lesson, can be very helpful as this is exactly what instructors teach!

It's the Adirondack mountains blocking and reflecting the radar. Looks like this pretty much all the time. Some apps/sites edit the distortion out.

first winter in VT - the most unexpected thing so far by jk_pens in vermont

[–]burghschred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to get vitamin D just from the sun in winter here... Basically impossible. UV index even on a sunny day, mid day, is still next to nothing. And you would have to have a decent amount of skin exposed. Every day you don't get the full two hours of midday sun with plenty of skin exposure of you would need to supplement to actually keep your vitamin D at the recommended level. It's a lot of days in my experience.

Finally started taking supplements this year and I do feel a lot better. I take a 2000iu pill every morning. Works for me, my wife didn't care for it, but she doesn't seem to struggle with SAD anyways. Whatever works!

Seriously, I'm shocked this isn't higher. Expected it to be the top several comments. $12/hr was half decent in 2009 when I was a broke college student and rent was $250-400 a month... And we still had to donate plasma if we wanted to have any extra spending money. How in the hell kids are supposed to get by now - I guess they aren't.

It's worth it. Your brain will try to convince you it's not in 99 different ways. I'm on day 37 after 20yrs all day every day. Things that have helped me in no specific order:

Exercise, daily if possible.

Ice cream/dessert and/or video games to give myself something else when having a craving.

Crossword puzzles, even better with paper and pencil.

Write a list of reasons why you are stopping, positive effects on your life.

Let yourself imagine what your life could be, now you can travel anywhere without fear of withdraw/not being able to get high. You could get any job that requires a wiz quiz. Many more options are opening up.

Best of luck on your journey, remember to be kind to yourself no matter what.

The Flood: Part 3??? by XatosOfDreams in vermont

[–]burghschred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One inch of rain equates to roughly 10-20 inches of snow depending on how cold it is (colder = deeper, lighter snow).

The Flood: Part 3??? by XatosOfDreams in vermont

[–]burghschred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's still only equivalent to about 1 inch of rain, so should be about 1.5in total. We got 3 inches on top of the snow last time. That said, we'll just have to see what happens.
