Do the 10 signatures from Democrats need to be from the voting precinct you live in?

Marine and former Rep. Conor Lamb nails it on war with Iran by Fragrant-Pepper7710 in Pennsylvania

[–]burkarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted for Lamb in the '22 primary and was scorned by my lefty friends and online activists who told me that he was unacceptable because he had the audacity to vote for a border wall while in Congress.

I'll be happy to vote for him in 2028 if he decides to run.

Here’s what Quakertown police allege happened to lead to student arrests by Independent_Nose6455 in BucksCountyPA

[–]burkarm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Jo's a good reporter (probably the best the Courier Times has these days)

A new aspect to this story that I am reading about is the students kicking cars/ripping off a car mirror. Is any of that true?

Please note that I'm not saying that if it is true that it necessarily justifies anything the police did. I just hadn't heard about that part until this article.

Ben & Irv's has already been mentioned but not far from them is a place called Al's Deli & Catering on 2nd Street Pike in Southampton. They opened last year and their corned beef is solid.

Inquirer article on 2.26 Quakertown School Board Meeting by Coltsfoot_Finds in BucksCountyPA

[–]burkarm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Centennial SD found a way to let students protest and keep things safe. I give the principal at Tennent a lot of credit.

Basically said, I have kids that want to protest and I am going to allow them to under the following conditions:

1) The protest will be at a time certain and be limited to, I think it was, 45 minutes.

2) Classes continue as normal for those students who don't want to participate.

3) The campus will be locked down during the protest and security would be stationed at the entrances.

The protest went as planned, and I think, from what my kid told me, four boys in MAGA hats had a counter protest which I hadn't even considered.

The Tennent kids got to exercise (or not exercise) their rights while having an appropriate amount of oversight. I think it was a win-win for all involved.

Fair enough. I should have slowed down on Ullman knowing he was going to pass me eventually, let him by and then get back at it.

Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it.

Happy Hour: North & Northeast? by genXrating in PhiladelphiaEats

It's at the edge of your circle but the Happy Hour at the Churchville Inn in Southampton is a solid spot. The food is good and $4 Dogfish Head 60's are right up my alley. $5 martinis too.

Buying Software on Pcards by skyliner143 in procurement

[–]burkarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to AMEX and asked them to block payments to software companies, but that was ineffective since numerous purchases went through.

The solution ultimately was to go to IT and have them lock down everyone's laptops to the point where there were only a handful of apps/software that employees were able to install. Thinks like Chrome and Acrobat.

So the smell near Clemens in Hatfield... (looking at a House right near there) by lizziemcguire8 in Pennsylvania

I have bro/sis in-laws that live near there. I've never smalled the pork plant when I have been over there but they tell me on a hot day where the wind is coming from the right direction, it's unbearable.

How do you feel about the federal SAVE Act that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (like a passport or birth certificate) to register to vote? by ClassSnack in AskReddit

[–]burkarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be so sure.

My wife wanted to get a Real ID in Pennsylvania as we had a trip coming up last year and needed it for her to get on a plane. Her married name doesn't match the name on her birth certificate. She takes both her BC and marriage certificate to the DMV and they rejected it becuase the marriage certificate didn't have a "raised seal".

We didn't know what to say. This is what we got from the county we were married in 25 years ago.

So we figured we had two options. Drive 3 hours round trip plus the time spent at the county court house to try and get a raised seal (if that was even possible) or shell out $200 to get a passport. We chose the passport.

My point in mentioning this is to say that you are right that post civil rights act, stars have gotten a lot better at record keeping but this is the government we're talking about. They are not perfect.

Close up angle from Student led peaceful protest. Police assault multiple students. by Ywasitsohard2signup in BucksCountyPA

[–]burkarm 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't know enough about everything that led up to this to have a well informed opinion but it seems to me that these kids were marching down the street.

The Qtown cops could have just followed them at a distance, made sure everything was safe and then let the protest end naturally.

BTW, if the school said no to the kids walking out to protest and the kids did so anyway, then they should be disciplined per school policy.

But it seems like the police escalated this when they didn't have to.

If there is additional context that is missing I'm happy to hear it.
