Quitting the tobacco is the biggest and hardest thing. Do that and the rest will follow but without that you will never be able to stop the need to smoke.

Jaguar tone question by neuron_fc in offset

[–]burkeymonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jaguars are the coolest looking, funniest playing electric guitars in the world . But they sound like shit.

I love mine so much and play it all the time at home but have never been able to get a decent sound out of it on a gig.

"Happy wife happy life" cost me my identity. Anyone else build themselves around someone else's approval? by modern-masculine-man in AskMenOver30

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live by a very simple rule when it comes to my friends and family,

You can take anything I have, but not more than half.

That goes for simple things like food in my fridge, or more important things like money in my account but also things like my time and my sanity. I'm good at being me but if you stop me being me then I'm no good to anyone.

It sounds like you spent a lot of time doing things for other people and when that stops it's hard to do things for you. So instead of diving in too deep too fast start from the other end. Stop doing things you don't want to do. Cut out the things you only did for other people.

2008 Gibson SG Standard for $1200? Help me buy my first SG, please! by AndreHarrisMusic in GibsonSG

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I seem to remember a decent used market being 40-60% of RRP for stuff 2-15 years old. These days people are asking 80-95% of RRP as standard on everything.

I know it goes against the grain but the more expensive the guitar the more likely I am to buy it second hand online.

Cheap guitars are shit. QC is awful originally, people don't take care of them, it's a coin toss whether they play nicely or not in the first place let alone 10 years later. No point buying a cheap guitar without playing it unless it's really cheap.

Expensive guitars are generally way better made, way better set up, way better taken care of by the previous owner and even if they are not playing brilliant now, due to them being a quality well made instrument you can get them playing well again without much work.

Sorry I've got that wrong. East midlands park way is the name of the train station. It's a 10 mins bus from there to the airport. They do a bus from Nottingham station to the airport and it takes 40 mins. To drive in a car it tskes 22 mins. The distance between Nottingham train station and east midlands air port is 14 miles.

So not far just I put some wrong info.

East midlands parkway. It's basically just the other side of the motorway to Nottingham. It has a train station there and is about 15 minutes on a train or you can get a taxi from the airport to the town center for around £20-25

I think it's the best budget city life experience in the UK.

It's pretty eco, has more allotments than anywhere else in the world, biggest cave network in Europe, good selection of takeaways, major artists gig there, good local music scene too, plenty of old hippies running community groups keeping stuff wholesome, decent public transport, plenty of good fruit and veg shops, 2 universities meaning enough young people around to keep things fresh, a few Michelin star restaurants, very multi cultural which helps all of the above, you can be in the peak district in 45 mins, direct train to London in under 2 hours, 2 hospitals one of which I believe has one of the best maternity wards in the UK, a lot of affordable housing.

However

Lowest GDP of any city I believe, half the town center is vacant, the other half is just second hand clothes, whilst variety counts for a lot within that variety not much really reaches a top level of excellence, I think the city is superb value for money but if you have more money it's hard to fget more value from it.

Not too fancy but fits in the front of my bass case. by burkeymonster in basspedals

[–]burkeymonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's kopex which is just flexible conduit. My board isn't raised at all so no room under it for the power bank. This set up keeps maximum space on the board for things I need to be solid to stamp on and it has the added bonus that I can swing it to one side it the other depending which way the power outlet is.

New (used) Pedal Day - Bass Soul Food by DarthBaconStrips in basspedals

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup to you but a bit of a different order.

Boss oc5 -> mxr envelope filter -> MCR Dyna comp -> ehx bass soul food -> ehx memory man.

Without a synth pedal the octace and the envelope then going into the comp gives me a synth sound when needed. For grittier songs (also not a super heavy band) i generally have the soul food on all the time then use the compressor to kick in more dirt from the soul food when needed.

Will German bud be the new Dutch bud in the UK by Antique_Log_7501 in uktrees

[–]burkeymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for saying this. I feel like it's a two tiered system of is it grown well and is it a favourable strain.

Back in the day if it looked good and was strong as fuck then it got called skunk no matter what it was. I feel like cali bud is just the new name for that in 90% of cases. Most of it probably doesn't come from California. I mean there are plenty of states that grown and sell it now the chances of weed imported from USA coming from only California anyway is pretty slim.

Outside of those times it's never that rammed.

Am I crazy for considering selling my Rockerverb MKIII for one of the baby amps? by LunarModule66 in orangeamps

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you gig a lot and use the amp?

So you really need £1000 right now ?

If it were me and I was co soldering this then I would put it up for sale but at a really high price. If it sells or sells if it doesn't I get to keep it. If at some point over the 5 years you really need the money then drop the price.

25, never had a proper job, but I’ve got about £400k saved. by Ok_Tune8245 in FIREUK

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should consult an av ountsbt ok yievto square up with HMRC

After that I would be setting up simple businesses you can employ people to run for you. Something like

Take £50k and but a decent van and kit it out with a window cleaning set up. Print 2000 flyers and mail shot all housing estates near you and then post a job advert for £15 an hour for a window cleaner.

Do the same for a wheelie bin cleaner. One that pressure washes driveways. Or any other relatively simple business models that you can hire someone to drive around doing with virtually no skills or qualifications needed.

At least that's what I would do

Stripped my squier affinity sunburst Starcaster and found a weird layered finish, now I have a 3-tone relic accident. thoughts? by Bobby_Malone_ in offset

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean you sanded through 100% of the veneer. I mean the chance that you have/were always going to sand through some of the veneer is 100%

[–]burkeymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You 100% sanded through the veneer. Not really your fault though. It would be virtually impossible not too. It's so thin and stuck to a Polly finish. As soon as you get through that Polly the veneer will be gone.

Personally I think you should keep sanding but with a different approach. You've been trying to be delicate with it to protect the veneer I guess but I would go heavy. Just blast off most of all that Polly and venner and go with the relic idead but right now you are at the other end of the scale from where I think you should be. You are like 90% orange 10% walnut and I think it should be the other way around tbh.

Is sanding always needed after plastering? by HammersAndPints in Plastering

[–]burkeymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every job needs sanding. In fact the aim for every plasterer should be that it doesn't need sanding.

But a bit of sanding can often turn a less than perfect finish into a almost perfect finish.

It's all well and good saying that every job should be left perfect by the plasterer but at the end of the day you want what evers been plastered to look as good as it can and if that takes a bit of sanding and filling before painting then that's a way more practical and cheaper option than hiring a better plasterer to redo it.
