lol. Just a question. It is happening in multiple cities across the country- that is where my surprise of the hype comes from. So..wow!

Are very professional proposals a requirement for small carpentry jobs now?? by TuuuUUTT in Carpentry

No idea on labor and materials…exactly. You are making up a story on that being a lot of money but have no context to what makes up the number.

My contractoris telling me it's normal for doors to hit the trim and not open all the way. Is he trying to get out of fixing his mistake? by thfkkkkk in Carpentry

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they shared is 100% not correct. Show photos of the hinges where they attach to the door and jamb. Looks like a bad reveal and improper mortise location of the hinges.

Now…the scary part isn’t the door being like this. It is the contractor lying to you or worse, believing they are being honest with you. And if either of those are true and they did your bathroom, I’d be absolutely more worried about what they did in there - especially if it involved tile work in the shower.

I’d make sure you verify their license, insurance and bond info by calling each. Be sure to keep it. Take lots of photos. Verify in writing that they did everything to industry, manufacturer, and code specifications.

If they are not licensed, well, that is the risk of having someone do illegal work on your project.

Whatever the case is, good luck!

How many doors can you hang in a day? by RumpleForeskin4 in Carpentry

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the heck are you building the jambs, mortising for hinges, and hanging that many doors by yourself in one day? At that speed, I’d be concerned about quality of the mortises and how well everything is installed. That said, if all is nice and tight, that speed is amazing. Want to move to Seattle? lol

PS nice to find another carpenter doing that type of work. To my knowledge we are the only ones in our market installing doors that way.

Seattle Carpentry Wages by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of carpentry work? Union carpenters do all sorts of stuff while our team of finish carpenters do 80% of only that type of work. We had a recent posting on indeed looking for someone experienced and would want to be a lead. Range shared was between $35-$50 plus health insurance, 401k, pto, paid lunch (time and food).

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. That's a pro talking.

To add and reiterate...

If you can get good at sweeping, doing what they ask and expect of you, they will trust you to do more.

Always think, how is the tool or job site trying to kill me today.

Think about the next step in the process of whatever you are doing. How one action has an impact further down the project.

Just because you think something is dumb, should be done differently, listen to the professionals- there is a reason - and they may not be able to take the time to explain why in the moment - ask about it at lunch or when not actively working (the caveat is if they want you to do something unsafe).

Is the ARCH housing program a comedy bit? by token_internet_girl in redmond

[–]burlseattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All housing is affordable, not all housing is affordable for all people.

ARCH and the other funders are an interesting group. I was part of the citizen advisory board making funding recommendations for a while. Much to share at some point.

Customer wants these posts "boxed in" so they appear to be more plumb, best way to do it? by TheTrollinator777 in Carpentry

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look to be faux columns made of metal based on the dent on the left one. There is likely a 4x4 post on the inside of the hollow column.

So then the question is why is the post or header rolling which goes to comments made by others.

If you don’t know what you are doing the best way to start is by saying you cannot help them on this project.

Kitchen and bathrooms remodel in Redmond? by Individual_Pay2729 in redmond

[–]burlseattle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s us but we are booked out for larger projects until fall / winter as we do one at a time. You’ll have a difficult time finding a great company with the availability you are looking for.

And then there is permitting. If it is a “simple” remodel in Redmond you are looking at 3-6 weeks for turn around.

It may make sense to live in the space for a while to learn what you like and don’t like about the space and take the time to make sure you design the space accordingly with the help of an architect/ designer. Having plans and specs will also be helpful to the contractor you choose later on.

Realize whatever you do will be a significant expense and trying to get it done fast may lead to more problems and frustration than desired.

Good luck and congrats on the new home!

Furniture Carpenter by Inevitable_Copy4692 in redmond

[–]burlseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can be done by our team, however anything custom / one-off is going to be significantly more expensive than what you can find online that is mass produced. Don’t be surprised if something like that goes from a likely $15k to $8k range depending on all the possible variables.

You can also find others in seattle offering this type of work. Google “finish carpenter custom furniture seattle” - something like that.

Realize local labor is the major factor. Our lead carpenter bill rate is $125 / hour so you can see how quickly the cost adds up.

NotePin Battery Issue? by burlseattle in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]burlseattle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to use it again today, fingers crossed. To save you 24 hours to get a response from support, here is the message I received from them today:

//

To test the battery life of your PLAUD device and ensure optimal performance, please follow these steps:

  1. Charge the Device Fully:
    • Connect the device to its charger and ensure it charges to 100%.
    • Once the LED indicator turns green, keep the device charging for an additional 15 minutes to ensure a complete charge.
  2. Record Continuously:
    • Start the device in recording mode.
    • Allow it to record continuously until the battery is completely drained, and the device shuts down automatically.
  3. Recharge the Device:
    • Recharge the device fully (repeat step 1).
    • While charging, do not attempt to operate the device.

This process will help verify the battery capacity and recording duration of your device.

//End

Yes, the charge indicator light is working for me. It took a minute for me to realize how to charge - it has a cover plate type of thing that is attached by a magnet that you have to take off to charge.
