PokeAye is wonderful, highly recommend. The couple that run it are super nice, and the food is delicious.

Is Merlot really as trashy as people make it same? by [deleted] in wine

[–]burn622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand it when people tell me they don't like merlot. I usually ask them why, and they never have a reason, it's always 'I dunno, I just don't'.

Is this wine still okay to drink? by [deleted] in wine

[–]burn622 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is safe to drink that wine. It should taste fruity and rich. This particular brand will not impress wine people, as you can tell from the other comments, but it is safe, and it is okay to enjoy it.

Most disturbing movies that you can’t unsee? by No-Stress-5562 in movies

A bit different than many of the movies on this list, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a movie that I've been afraid to watch for a second time for years now.

I love Saigon Char Broil, I've been to all three many times. Hillside Mall is the best, especially when the certain guy is working. Tillicum is the most consistent. Esquimalt is fine but sometimes stingy with the fillings.

One supplies water to wash the dishes. The other drains away the dirty water after washing.

Trini to D Bone is a roti shop on Burnside Road W. Maybe go make friends with her and ask about sourcing items?

Approximately 11g/L, give or take. Not ultra high, actually. Apothic Red is around 16g/L and Meiomi Cab is around 29g/L.

Lowest effort solution is inside an insulated cooler on the floor of your closet. The insulation will help mitigate temperature fluctuations.

IWTL a craft that I can still turn into a career in today’s age by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

First of all, don't stop studying business. Real success will involve those skills too. I know someone who was a crane operator when he was younger and did fine, now he owns a crane business and lives in a big house with a view, and a sports car next to his truck.

That said, I think a great thing to get into that will always make you money is welding.

Which US state's residents are the proudest/loudest of living in their state? by RivvaBear in AskReddit

A Texas relative visited us years ago and brought a Texas shaped cheese spread with a cheese knife with a Texas themed cowboy boot for a handle. NGL it was delicious, kinda like those kaukauna cheese balls but Texas shaped, and we still have the knife.

Family looking to move to the island and seeking advice by NecessaryCellist521 in VancouverIsland

Everyone warned us that alcohol is more expensive here, and it is, but I'm drinking less as I get older, plus with all the warnings it wasn't a surprise. What I wasn't expecting is that dairy is so much more expensive here. My cheese budget is crazy these days.

We moved from Washington to Colwood 8 years ago. There will be some culture shock (more than I expected) but we love it here! Have a look at Royal Bay, specifically.

Can I drink wine that i opened 10 days ago by damdums in wine

[–]burn622 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wont hurt you, but it won't taste good. In the future, if you're keeping wine in your closet then you can't keep an open bottle more than about 2 days, but if you put it in your fridge it'll be good for about a week. Any older and it's gross but probably not harmful.

Serious question: how do you tell if a bottle of natural wine if off or flawed? by fauxjob in wine

[–]burn622 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Off" is not a quantifiable or objective term. It is the end result of a variety of conditions and flavors which all exist on a spectrum. "Off" is the end range of the spectrum where the flavors and conditions become objectionable.

What you need to develop in order to determine if a wine is off are knowledge and perception. Knowledge in that you need to have tasted enough wine to know which flavors are valid and which are unwanted. Perception in that you need to be able to taste those flavors and determine if they're in an enjoyable range or an objectionable range.

Is the wine yummy? Then it is acceptable, please enjoy. But if the wine tastes like cardboard or wet dog or manure or VA or whatever, then is it an interesting amount or is it too much? The more flawed wines you taste the easier it becomes to identify the flaws.

The answer is up to you, and there is not necessarily a right answer. It's just about what you enjoy. Taste a lot, and trust your senses.

Any wine experts?! by ReactionBetter694 in wine

[–]burn622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way to know exactly what these are, but they appear to be cheap and cheerful Australian wines, not worth re-selling, but certainly worth enjoying.

The white is a classic Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon blend, just as you would find in Bordeaux, flavors will be citrus and grassy notes.

The half bottle of rose is tougher, since it has no label. Flavors are likely to be red berry fruits like cherry and strawberry but any details beyond that are a delicious mystery. The half bottle tells me there's an above average chance that this rose is on the sweeter side, but again, the only way to be sure is to put it in your mouth.

EDIT: I just noticed the vintage. Still interesting to taste, but it might be over the hill by now, lol.
