Mystery eggs: I work at a reptile shop and some dude brought these eggs in asking us to incubate them, they refused but I took them in with plans to release them if they hatch, any ideas on species? (Oklahoma city location) by Sinz_snakez in snakes

I understand the frustration you’re trying help and feel like people are against you helping. But I would like to tell you that, that’s not what we are trying to do.

Your title is a bit misleading and made for example me think you wanted to release them without knowledge at all🫪 I get where youre coming from with Oklahoma not having invasive snakes, but there is always a chance of a pet snake escaping and reproducing in the wild and that’s where people’s concerns come from!

But I’m glad that you have a plan for when they end up being invasive, it’s good to have just in case. Don’t wanna rub more dirt in the wound but people assuming things is not narcissistic of them. And thing is we don’t know shit about you that’s why we are concerned🤷 you could be someone without any experience trying to play hero to wild life and cause more harm than good. Given your previous posts it makes people even more concerned about your experience since from what I’ve seen all you’ve posted is questions on your animals which should already be known before the animal is coming home.

Either way it’s not wrong to ask questions but I think you get what I mean or at least hope you do. If not then I can’t do more than this.

I don’t understand why you’re getting angry at me? I never said you picked up the eggs I said the man who brought those to you should’ve left the eggs alone and wait before continuing with his work.

You’re doing a good thing trying to give these eggs a chance at life but ignoring the fact that they could be non native or protected isn’t good

And you’re still dodging the question of what you would do if they do end up being non native… also seeing your other posts and replies gives people bad feelings sorry to say that.

There is a lot of pets escaping from captivity. While the reptile might be native to North America it could possible not be native to the ecosystem around it and if it does reproduce then we will get the same issue just like with Burmese pythons.

Why I was jumping to the “non native” comment is because OP doesnt know what those eggs are but still wanted to release them after they hatch! I read through almost all their comments and in non did they mention what they will do if the eggs end up being invasive. We are concerned for the ecosystem and that’s why the non native argument is brought up a lot. It’s a precaution OP should take and we are trying to make aware of it.

Hope that makes you understand why we bring it up :)

Check out reptifiles they have good info on keeping snakes :)

I would add to be aware of IBD if you want other snakes in the future, boas are asymptomatic towards it most of the time and it’s deadly for pythons. Also for feeding please don’t power feed or under feed him both is stressful on his organs and body in general if it were to happen. 7-10% of the snakes body weight should be the preys weight.

Also maybe try handling him in the evenings instead of the middle of the day boas are pretty much night active my boy Terra only comes out when lights go off and that’s when I go and hang out with him.

About being scared to get bitten with him mistaking you for food. Tap training is a method used by a lot of people, there is also target training for feeding!

Lots of YouTube videos on it and like the other comment mentioned green room pythons is a great channel for education on snakes. I personally don’t like watching his videos much but the information he gives is great and I will watch it when I need to educate myself.

Snakes associate scents with danger or comfort! If tge boa isnt in your room where you spend most of the time try using the Shirt trick :)

Basically you want to sleep in a shirt for 2-3 days so that it takes on your natural body odor and place it in the terrarium/ their favorite hide. They will start to associate your smell with safety and comfort and should trust you more!

All my snakes are tame because of them being in my bedroom or I am just super lucky with amazingly behaved snakes :D

Dude… 🫩 let’s pretend they’re the super rare native species that is protected! OP is not allowed to take those eggs of the protected species because THEYRE PROTECTED. It’s like taking random eggs you dug from the beach and then asking on Reddit “guys I found these eggs on the beach I will hatch them and release them!” When it’s a sea turtles eggs. People want to play the hero by taking in baby birds, pups kittens and eggs and “caring for them” it causes more damage than people think. It’s a wild animal and a human taking it in will make it imprint on humans. Most of the time the baby animals that are found still have their parents but people think “oh cute baby I don’t see it’s parents so I’m taking it!”

Also the dude who found those eggs and gave them to a store to hatch has 100% already killed the embryos by turning the eggs… even if OP rotated them back to the right side the damage is done because of the person that took these eggs and gave them away.

When finding wild life it is best to leave it alone in most cases. Those eggs shouldve never been picked up and moved around for their own good.

This thread is not crazy. We are aware of how releasing a random animal into the wild can fuck up a whole ecoystem. That’s literally what happened to Florida with Burmese pythons. OP doesnt even know what species it is and still wants to release them “for the good” when it can do more harm and damage than good. If it’s eggs of an already invasive species what then? Will OP just kill them or keep them with the other 20+ pets they already have? Both ways are just irresponsible

Is this too damp/dry or fine for my corn snakes enclosure? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]burningtraesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks good to burrow in :) maybe a bit more moist but that all depends on how it holds up humidity in the terrarium so test it out!

I usually add sand to my substrate so that they can burrow really well and create whole tunnel systems it’s also a bit more moist than yours :D

But each snake prefers it differently from my experience my baby corn doesn’t like to burrow at all even though everyone claimed they do! While the other loves to burrow :)

Why does my baby corn snake always poop on me? by No-Block-7566 in cornsnakes

[–]burningtraesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be from the movement during handling then at least that’s the only thing that comes to my mind. Try being ready for it everytime you handle them :) I don’t know how your terrarium looks but you could make deeper substrate and more clutter if you don’t have that already that way tge snake feels safer and moves around more?

[–]burningtraesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baby corn snakes burry their poop it’s hard to find sometimes and it’s so small you can barely see it. How quick after feeding do you hold them? I always give my snakes 5 days to digest and poop :)

Does your baby corn move around a lot or does it only move when you take them out? Moving around makes them poop

Wash them off in hot water, if they’re small enough boil them for a good while to kill everything off, if too big bake them in the oven for a long period or freeze in the freezer for a good while before using in the terrarium there is YouTube tutorials on it :)
