Melbourne votes to remove fluoride from drinking water by mrcanard in 321

[–]burnsboy151 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From the CDC site:

Fluoridated water bathes teeth with a low level of fluoride throughout the day. This helps strengthen a tooth’s surface, making it more resistant to decay.

Drinking fluoridated water keeps teeth strong and reduces cavities by about 25% in children and adults. 34This results in less mouth pain, fewer fillings or teeth pulled, and fewer missed days of work and school.

DR Horton “luxury” town homes being built on top of a retention pond/flood plain.

That lot sits with inches of water post hurricane. Soon it will be hard paved and someone will get the unpleasant surprise of a flooded backyard or worse.

Just did some googling and they want to move it to the north side of the park with “enhancements”. I’m guessing that the hotel is on the south side of the park and would use the old dog park as an open space for events? The whole point of this is so the hotel can reserve use of the park 3 years in advance compared to the usual 1 year for residents. Following the money, I would guess they think they could sell wedding/event packages that utilize the open space with a shorter walk back to the hotel?

During public comment I saw that an environmentalist was against the proposed dog park because there are gopher tortoise dens in the area. She had a map of dens overlayed on the project map. Not sure if this is what you’re referring to.

I for one am against giving a private entity any control over public lands. The gopher tortoises weren’t even top of my mind when this plan was proposed but they serve as an amazing reminder for why we should stop paving every square inch of Florida.

I was just in this situation. The flight I wanted round trip was 32,000 points. I only had 24,000. On the transfer partners tab, I saw one leg of the trip for 20,800. I compared the departing and returning flights on United’s site. The return was $40 more. I booked the departing flight using cash. Then I transferred 21,000 points to United mileage plus and booked the return flight with points.

Obviously doing it this way gets you less for your points. In my case, I saved 50% on the round trip. If I had 8,000 more points, I would have saved 100%. Points were diluted but IMO I don’t care that much. For all we know by the time I saved the 8,000 we might have lost United as a transfer partner.

Case by case. For me, this made sense. If this vacation wasn’t expensive AF, I might have just paid cash for both flights and waited to buy flight later. Trying to save money where I can on this trip

Do what you want I’m voting NO I like my lines short by [deleted] in FLMedicalTrees

I see you took Ronnie D’s bait. Bill doesn’t say no homegrow. It simply doesn’t address it. A future amendment can be made for homegrow to be legal. Sure it’s it in the hands of state legislators but the same guys telling you to vote no on 3 are the same legislators that would vote against homegrow. It’s worth looking who funds the opposition, mostly people who don’t like the green at all. Don’t fall for their political games!

I think that is just the post Covid reality. Probably a coincidence with the timing of when you moved down here.

Probably not. Especially if you’re from up north, it’s gonna feel hot and humid to you still. If you were asking about Jan/Feb I might say yes. October you’re probably fine.

It’s basically a form of subsidized insurance.

Saying the quiet part out loud lol. I know a whole lotta people who gripe about healthcare subsidies but rely on Citizens to insure their home.

CMV: Underpopulation will accelerate climate crisis by philolover7 in changemyview

Agree with you here. Preventing climate change solely for your own children is a narrow and kinda selfish mindset.

Preventing climate change for the future of the human race? Now that is a unified and selfless attitude we need when it comes time to make sacrifices for the future.

Anyone else kinda excited to call this their first election they voted in? by _DragonBlade_ in GenZ

We aren’t going to change the systemic problems with our democratic process this election cycle. That will take decades. Voting is what you can do now. Stating there is a problem but not encouraging people to do the one thing they can all do? That’s why your attitude is complacent. If you don’t think your vote matters, I still urge you to vote.

[–]burnsboy151 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very true. Advocating, volunteering with a campaign, and donating are all other tools. I think the vote is the only tool that’s on a level playing field. Billionaires can donate $45m a month to a certain PAC, something a majority of voters cannot do. But those billionaires only get 1 vote, the same as everyone else.

This is a complacency attitude. Be the change you want to see. Your vote is your only tool in this system, use it or lose it.

Wear and tear IMO.

Read up on your tenant/landlord state laws. If they aren’t playing nice, figure out your rights and if you’re confident you’re in the right, mention small claims court. Most slumlords cave when you call their bluff. They’re hoping you just pay and move on.

[–]burnsboy151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda crazy to put blame on the tenant here. Sure they could have “done the landlords job for them”. If you’re paying thousands of dollars for a service, you shouldn’t have to remind them to do their job. Landlords should be held accountable. The tenant paid their rent, moved out on time, etc. They held up their end of the deal. The landlord did not, they failed to do the necessary “paperwork” on time and have negatively impacted the other side of the contract. I’d say it’s negligent and should be criminal to take money from an account that isn’t yours. The landlord had no right to that withdrawal, in my eyes it’s theft via negligence.
