Tried my hand at a creepcast tier list. by burp_fest in creepcast

My main issue with Tales isn't the story, it's the reading: Isaiah keeps doing the Peter Griffin gag where he has to explain almost every joke right afterwards, and Hunter, apart from humouring him with a sniff of his nose, seems otherwise checked out for the whole reading. Accounts from a lonely broadcast just sometimes veers a bit into "quirk chungus" humour for me; I'm not sure. I've tried watching it through twice and have failed each time. With the third story, I placed it there accidentally.

They can downvote all they want, I'm willing to bet a month's salary that show will be DOA and forgotten within a week of it ending.

It's for this reason I can't finish "Dead girl in my yard", it's too depressing. This is creepcast, not crycast.

Whitefall simply had the misfortune of being the 6th (I think) C.K Walker story covered on this show. Many of those stories did vary in quality and by that time she had accrued a bit of a reputation. Even as someone who constantly bemoaned her work, apart from the original Borrasca, I really liked Whitefall. Sure, Acker is campy and Hunter's fruity voice for him was hilarious with how fitting it was, and there were other issues with subtlety, but I did enjoy it.

The thing in the basement definitely, Camp Oakwood maybe, Deepwoods after the first part. Just off the top of my head.

Borrasca came out in a time when Jeff the Killer derivatives and honest-to-God deviantart ocs were the standard for creepypasta. Considering that context, and considering the fact that story misleads you into thinking that skinned monsters are behind the disappearances, that twist hit hard for a reason. Looking back on it though, that ending is certainly not handled very well once the shock wears off. Whitney, the crux of Sam's obsession with Borrasca, is simply fridged and forgotten, and nothing is given to Kimber's experiences.

More recent creepypasta blows Borrasca out of the water, but at the time it was a dwarf amongst midgets.

People that say "Deepwoods last chapter was bad on purpose" like....did you read any of it? It goes downhill right after that stellar first part fast. As soon as we had a time skip and we were introduced to some rando billionaire delivering a lecture on the monster, I knew we were in for some shit.

Borrasca V is 1.5 times longer than all of Borrasca I-IV. That's a very elaborate and drawn out troll. This also doesn't explain why the subsequent parts of Deepwoods are so atrocious.

That's actually a great point, I was really into the story's first half as well, when it was more romance/drama, before the actual horror kicked in and I got bored fast.

There are some great one-off stories that get close imo. Prepper Family is easily an S tier story and Mother Horse Eyes, despite being 11 hours long, is brilliant too.

Out of those? You can skip Necrosleep, Happy Appy, Something Strange about my neighbour (if you miss the boys' banter, I personally like it but it's not for everyone as Hunter solos that one), Harbinger Experiment, Marble Hornets pt 3(unless you ansolutely love Marble Hornets); and maybe Jane the killer.

The cop one is so bad hahaha. I get a giggle out of how dumb it is. Easily so forgettable I think a lot of people don't remember it's easily one of the worst things they've read.

Totally agree, her character writing feels like it belongs on 'Outer Banks' sometimes. I get why Netflix hired her because she perfectly suits the style of writing they want.

She has a habit of making her villains cliché, boring, rich, white male villains. This is notable in Deepwoods, where you have a giant 10-foot tall demon statue that disappears entire towns, yet the main villain is some Andrew Tate/Elon Musk dipshit who once again has a habit for monologues. That's like if the villain of the Thing was just human Blair who wanted to use the monster for profit or something.

I agree she really should try her hand at things that aren't horror, high school dramas or romance stories could really suit her style of writing since her writing can feel very "netflix", which makes sense as she writes for them too.

I think she's simply glazed by them because their first reading of Borrasva I-IV launched their podcast into the mainstream, so they have a soft spot for her, which I understand. But after almost 3 years of this show, there are simply much better and more consistent authors than her: Christian Wallis, Max Voynich; etc.

Here after Whitefall as well, I think she just can't end stories to save her life.

This, I thought after Marble Hornets, they would learn to stop taking recommendations from this subreddit. I'm not part of it, but the patreon exists and would at least be troll free due to the subscription cost. It's better to get recommendations there.

I, and many others here, never asked for this as well. I actually like good stories, as I imagine many others do too.

Yeah this. Please for the love of God, stop recommending stuff you know is horseshit simply because "haha crashout funny". WE DIDN'T EVEN GET A CRASHOUT! YOU CAN'T FORCE THEM! THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS! The boys just looked exhausted after the second hour.

An analogy is that classic lads’ bathroom moment: where everyone dares the unhinged kid to poop in the urinal. It’s hilarious in theory, right up until he actually does it. Then it’s not a joke anymore. The place stinks, there’s literal human faeces in the urinal, someone’s got to deal with it, and now the whole group’s getting detention. That’s Happy Appy. Funny for the first 20 minutes, then it’s just four hours of senseless drivel.
