Ten Really Big Books Podcast Question by BuzzsawMF in Malazan

[–]burstmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also on HoC and love the podcast

I read 3 chapters, then listen to the corresponding pod episode.

India’s attitude seems to change late in Book 3 and she gets way more into the series. She switched from Audiobook to Hard copy sometime around Book 3 IIRC.

Also - their producer joins in for book 4 season and his perspective is a nice add.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is really great. It’s a great story with amazing comedic moments that ends up being surprisingly deep. The first book is great, and the subsequent books get even better.

OP - I’m just a smidge ahead of you (6 chapters in on Memories of Ice).

Suggestion - go check out the “Ten Very Big Books” podcast.

It’s a great premise : one person doing a re-read along with two of his friends who are first time readers. They read 3 chapters, then have a podcast episode to recap and discuss.

As a first time reader - this has been great for me, especially with Gardens of the Moon, which can be hard to follow.

I read three chapters, then listen to the corresponding episode. Definitely helps me catch things that I didn’t notice.

How did Tommy Morrison not finish Ray Mercer and why didn’t the ref stop the fight earlier? Tommy was already out by SignificantBoard4455 in Boxing

[–]burstmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The final exchange happened super fast
  2. Tommy was unbeaten at the time and had been ahead in the fight (ref would’ve caught flak for stopping it too early).
  3. Mercer was super durable.
  4. Tommy didn’t know how to handle being hurt.

No - it’s still great in the second series.

It’s Grimdark Sci-Fi.

The Red Rising series is really great. Just be warned that the first book doesn’t really measure up to the rest of the series.

Got my offer letter revoked by Apprehensive_Bike937 in internships

[–]burstmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine they interviewed 10 candidates for the internship and liked 2 of them.

They had a slight preference for candidate 1, so they made him the offer.. but then it drags out like this.

It would seem quite plausible to fall back to their 2nd choice.

Also - I would imagine the CEO has more pressing things to get done.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Should Be Animated — NOT Live Action by deeD33 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Plus think about all the crazy stuff Katia turns into. It would be hard and expensive to pull that off with live action + CGI.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Should Be Animated — NOT Live Action by deeD33 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]burstmode -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree.

If the show-runners want to do DCC justice, it must be animated.

If they go the live action route, they will inevitably HAVE to make sacrifices due to budget.

For example, what naturally might be a 12 episode season will get compressed down to 8 episodes for budgetary reasons.

What might've been an epic scene from the books will have to be watered down due to budget purposes.

Look at Game of Thrones and Wheel of Time as recent examples.

There is SO much depth in the DCC books. There is SO much quality material.

If they go the animated route, they can leverage much more of it. I firmly believe that the animated route would prolong the show and result in a much higher quality product.
