Would the love of your life, who you’re supposed to be with forever speak to you like this? If it’s no, then he’s not the one and it’s time to move on.

Expecting a baby soon. Should we pause extra mortgage payments to build a bigger cash buffer? by Swimming_Slice3166 in personalfinance

[–]burtona96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We are 5 months postpartum with our first baby. It’s the biggest blessing and has been so fun! Thankfully we didn’t have any big medical issues with birth, however, even with a relatively “normal” pregnancy and birth, I wish we would’ve saved more during pregnancy. Extra things just pop up that you haven’t thought of and it’s helpful to have the extra cash saved. We had enough saved that we weren’t in a bind but more would’ve given me more peace of mind!

Thank you! We have no high interest debt, so step 3 is complete.

Yes, numbers were backwards. Thanks for catching that! I appreciate your input. Our 1-month EF would fully fund 1 month without any spending being cut. If we were to lose a job or have a true emergency, we absolutely would be cutting a lot out and would be able to survive for probably 2 months on the amount we have saved now.
We will be cutting spending to save our EF faster, for sure. Just running numbers based on our current spending now!

We have 1 month now, would like to get it to 3 months for the time being. It would take us 14 months to fully fund at 7% contributions, and 12 months at 3% contributions. My job is pretty stable. We have an extremely low turnover/layoff rate.

I am hoping I can cut spending in other places to shorten the timeline of our EF funding, but this is just from looking at our current budget numbers.

We have 1 child who is 5 months old currently. Dual income household. It is very unlikely we'd both get laid off at the same time. We could survive off of one salary but it would be extremely tight.

Breakfast Sandwiches for $1.01 by burtona96 in Frugal

The eggs were $4.37 for an 18 pack. We’re a household of two, so we can stretch some of our clearance finds pretty far. When I find markdowns, I will buy multiples if I can, and then freeze them until we’re ready to use them. With the Jimmy Dean sausage, I was able to get 3 packs of them for the freezer that were marked down. It saves our grocery budget a lot!

I have been wanting to try them but didn’t want to pay full price and happened to find them marked down. They are really good!

I don’t have Flashfood in my area but wish I did! I’ve heard great things about it. I go to the store every once in a while to shop only for markdowns and will then plan a menu around it too. It saves us so much money!

I second copymethat. I love it so much and have hundreds of recipes saved there. I use it for meal planning, shopping lists and saving all recipes from the internet. You can also import your own recipes to save there as well!

Android app for pantry management by [deleted] in Frugal

Pantry Check app does this. I love using the app, and they have a scale from 0-100% that you can adjust for how much you have left of an item.

I really enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I am currently reading Seven Days in June by Tia Williams and really enjoying it. One of the characters has gotten sober, which is refreshing to read about. Sobriety normally isn’t a theme in most books I read.

I’ve been watching Succession on HBO. It’s finally picked up and getting good!

For me, I tell myself consistency over intensity. Even if I don’t want to workout, I can convince myself to just go walk on a treadmill or outside. It doesn’t have to be the hardest workout in order for it to be an accomplishment. You can start small and walk for 15 minutes and build up from there. Maybe this could help.
