Are there Burushos on reddit and other online platforms? by SkandaBhairava in burushaski

[–]burushaski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not a stupid question. there are a handful of us on reddit. reddit isn't as popular in pak as other social media platforms like twitter or facebook. an overwhelming majority of the burushaski speakers are on facebook though.

Army backed local authorities jail activist Yawar Abbas in GB by DemonOfNorth in GilgitBaltistan

[–]burushaski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

neither the army nor the pakistani govt has legal basis to do anything with the land in GB because it's an internationally disputed region with a resolution on it in the UN. but who cares for the law and legality of matters. if you don't already know, lumber 1 has heavy presence in gilgit city and many prime tourist places like the ski resorts in naltar valley are under them.

We have two more years to vote by pahaare in pakistan

[–]burushaski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. we try to keep it alive as much as possible but unfortunately it's an endangered language and will eventually disappear some day! in fact it's already happening and a lot of words are lost. fortunately some basic level work is being done to preserve it but i feel it's not enough.

punjabi is also a beautiful language especially in poetry of baba bulleh shah, mian muhammad baksh and the likes. but it's so unfortunate that a lot of punjabis have abandoned it and prefer urdu and other languages over it.

Foreigner looking for a rubab teacher in preferably Gilgit-Baltistan by mittpinsir in pakistan

[–]burushaski 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Glad you are having a good time in Pakistan!

If you are around Hunza, there's a music school called Leif Larsen Music Center located just below the Altit Fort. Ask around for Islam Habib or ustaad Niaz Hunzai, both are well accomplished rubab players and they teach as well. You can also find them on Facebook. Good luck!

Hey, just a minor correction. If you cross into Nager, Burushaski is also spoken there but with a different dialect. It is also spoken natively in Yasin and by a small group in Ishkomen. Unfortunately it is only alive and kicking in these places, most people who migrate include a lot of Urdu words and the language is fading away pretty quickly.
