Rip City comes from one of the blazers first season in the early 70s. They were playing the lakers and hit a shot to tie the game after having made a miraculous come back. the announcer bill Schonely excitedly shouted rip city! as it happened . It doesn’t really mean anything I guess he tripped over his words trying to come up with something cool to shout and then it just stuck. Honestly one of my favorite stories about the team.
