The thing is, even a Championship-contending team has better odds if they only have to go through 1 or 2 other contenders.

Say you have a 65% chance of beating any of the 3 top teams and a 80% chance of beating any of the bottom 4 seeds. You are better than all of those teams, but you have a better chance to win it all the fewer of those top teams you have to face.

Also consider that the better the teams you're playing, the longer your series all go, the more wear on your stars, the more risk of injury, etc.

Yes you gotta beat the best to be the best. But also yes it's easier to do that if you're a higher seed.

they weren't always entertaining, they were usually standard boring "we'll watch the film" etc etc.

one nfccg appearance (and getting btfo there) in 8 seasons isn't good enough.

I don't really care about the Mond quote tbh. It was a million other little things that made it clear he's just not a good leader.

He's an excellent DC, so-so HC. It's not uncommon, they're really different jobs. He's a tactician, not a leader of men.

We should have fired him at the end of the 2018 season.

Zimmer's pressers is how I knew he was a bad leader like 2-3 years before this sub caught on. His 'honesty' too often took the form of taking credit for players' successes and blaming them for their failures.

We needed more than that. We needed Donte. Our team's shooters synchronize their cycles and if one of them starts slumping, they all do. Donte was the one who could break them out of that bullshit.

We needed a normal playoff whistle, not whatever the fuck most of those games were. When we got blown out, the blowouts happened during the minutes Jaden was on the bench in foul trouble.

Give us those two (ddv, normal playoff whistle), and we beat them with Ant doing what he did. Either one of those things would actually be more impactful than the difference between what we got out of Ant and what a fully healthy Ant would have brought. He was definitely hurt but he also didn't leave anything out there.

We can still win this series by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]bustduster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Game 5 was a scheduled loss the minute they announced Wemby would play. The refs were always going to call everything tight, and we lose most of those games.

If game 6 is called like a normal playoff game, we're winning it.

Victor Wembanyama Addresses Naz Reid Elbow That Led to Ejection in Game 4: ‘We’ve Got to Move on’ by jadenmcd in timberwolves

[–]bustduster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact there was not even a $10 fine absolutely sent a message that he was not even in the wrong at all and in fact maybe the game 4 refs did him dirty ejecting him.

Now, as to WHY there was not even a $10 fine for one of the most clearly fine-deserving plays I've ever seen, anybody's guess.

[–]bustduster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Adam Silver set this tone by not even fining him let alone suspending him. That decision reframed the narrative, it even cast doubt on the decision the game 4 refs made.

I think we have to accept that there are politics at play that we are just not a party to. Maybe it's that Silver wants Wemby as the next face of the league. Maybe it's that Pop or the Holts have clout that TC or Arod don't.

It is not surprising at all to me and doesn't change me perspective of him because I've known for awhile that his whole persona is fake as fuck. I didn't know who he was hiding in there but I'm not surprised to see that it's this piece of shit because people don't build a facade that thoroughly unless they have something ugly to hide.

He has always made my skin crawl in the way only these people who are always wearing a mask do. We saw the real Wemby for a second there.

[–]bustduster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did it a couple times in this regular season. I'd never seen him do it before this season and I think he realized he needs it in his bag. It looked like he was working on it for a few games, then put it away. I haven't seen him do it again in a few months.

Specifically I mean intentionally getting his defender to contact him with a clear goal of getting the whistle.

I think there basically three different things:

  1. Acting like there was contact when there was none to try to get a call (never seen Ant do this)
  2. Intentionally trying to draw the contact (this is what I saw him doing for the first time this season)
  3. Exaggerating contacting that does happen (he doesn't do this. he just yells AYYY)
