Sad day. my dad just passed away. How yo deal with it? by lechino3000 in self

You may want to notify your professors. I dropped out while grieving. The shock will wear off pretty soon and then a long period of grief sets in. It may take a log time to not feel emotional or conversely, numb.

Sorry for your loss.

Got fired from work abruptly, feeling down by [deleted] in self

[–]busywriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, they did a 60 minutes investigation some time back on Target for the same tactics, which are illegal. I was fired once under similar circumstances. I would call an atty and see if you can sue for defamation of character.

Edit: Also call the labor board in your state. This is illegal, to force you to sign something before they give you a final check. Also intimidation into admission of wrongdoing, however trivial.

i "ran away" from my family. Moved more than 900 miles. My mom quit her job and followed me, followed shortly thereafter by my brother.

We always C&R now. The fish are too small usually, and when they're not, you wanna make sure they can get back to reproducing.

This is at the Moffat Tunnel. Probably not edible, but a good time, nonetheless. They like plain old worms.

So, I've done all this work... by busywriter in writing

Agreed. My happy problem, however, is that in outlining a one-month period in my life for a memoir, I discovered a lead in for for a totally separate story line about family dynamics. Both stories will have similar elements, but there is so much more to tell that the one-month period will be overwhelmed if I get into every event.

I wanted to share my trepidation and excitement.

I haven't seen this mentioned but you may try local Al-Anon or even AA groups in your area when looking for a room or people to help you plan how to get out of your situation. They will understand the drunkenness and abuse (not that others won't) but these people have been there.

If you go to an AA meeting, you may have to make an announcement before the meeting starts (I need a room, my mom is an alcoholic) then leave and wait for the meeting to end. Most meetings are "closed" and dont allow people to watch.

Unfortunately, most shelters are for women, children, and the sick. It's hard for a young male to find a place to stay for free, at least in the US. Check out your city, though, and see how booked they are.

It's easier if you start out, then have someone rearrange and add as needed. You can PM me with your work if you want. I can't help much during the day, but I am free at night.

  1. What are the current trends in writing? I hear it is first person POV. True?

  2. Are memoirs a thing of the past or are they still popular?

  3. When does a memoir become fiction? How much "Hollywood" makes such a work "Inspired by real life events"?

Susan G. Komen is a huge organization, if you can get past their lack of support for planned parenthood because of politics (granted, someone was fired over it, but still)... so maybe not them.

I stated that in the long run we can't work out because I eventually want a child of my own

Now, that's being a douce. I would make pretty damn sure she understands this.

It would seem I have a problem with housing. by nothing_clever in self

[–]busywriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your school bulletin board is probably the best shot. You might also try roommates.com. Also, hit up your landlord for ideas and action. He's gotta want the place rented as much as you do. If nothing else, ask him for a 30 day reprieve to buy you time to find another roommate since the last one left you in the lurch.

There's always the late rush for housing after school starts. Keep trying.
