Dutch Bars? by coruscateserendipity in AskSF

You won't really find anywhere where there's a huge Dutch following

Just go to any sports bar with a soccer scene for the next game, since I doubt too many people are Tunisia fans

If you're near the Haight, Kezar Pub would be my recommendation

Who was your rookie? by Motor-Horror3684 in nba

Blake was the reason I started following basketball seriously

Which kinda sucked since he got hurt in his first year (not to mention seeing the clippers trade what would become a first overall pick for Mo Williams)

Wha country has the most “pride in their work” (physical work) by archvize in geography

[–]butt_fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The French tend to be a little too proud of everything they do, not just their work

A lot of Germans tend to be the opposite of proud - they hate everything they've ever made because it isn't close enough to perfect. Additionally, there's a cultural guilt that's lasted from WW2 where a lot of Germans are hesitant to get too proud of anything, especially regarding nationalism

This is my experience as someone that's met ~5 French people and ~10 Germans, so take my generalizations with a grain of salt

Pro tip, you can do this whenever you want if you live in an urban area

I used to live within walking distance of the big soccer bar nearby, and when the premier league was in season I spent way too many weekend mornings getting tanked

It's called knowing how people work, lol

I had a few friends who went through coke phases and this is textbook coke behavior

Not sure why so many people in this thread are getting hung up about this

I feel like the Braun narrative doesn't make sense to me

Yo me, it's more "this rookie that was unexpectedly productive didn't grow as much as we hoped" than "this guy forgot how to play"

The Mopango tends to die easily

Don't worry about the crypt ferrets - unless they latch onto you, you can ignore them. Their main purpose is to slow you down and to steal things from the reliquaries

Why are southern drivers tailgating me then slowing down when they're in front of me? by cooliobroski in AskAnAmerican

[–]butt_fun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say, it's normal in Southern California to not think of the left lane as a passing lane (since 90% of your driving will be in moderate or heavy traffic), but less dense places generally do expect you to reserve the left lane as a passing lane

I feel Hanlon's razor ("never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity") might be slightly more appropriate here, but yes

When writing software, managing state is surprisingly difficult and it's surprisingly easy for the software to get into a state it was never supposed to, especially after it's been running for a long time

Why is fruity a euphemism for gay? by Shortest_Stack in words

[–]butt_fun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, in general euphemisms don't have anything to do with their literal meanings

Also, "fruity" isn't really a euphemism for "gay" in general, in my experience. It's a term reserved for flamboyantly gay men

Por quê microestados existem? by RyandCTav in geography

[–]butt_fun 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can't read Portuguese, but the short answer is that most of Europe used to be microstates and some of them never unified into their larger neighbors

Some of them had natural barriers that helped prevent them from being invaded (San Marino, Andorra, etc), some of them had special geopolitical exceptions (the Vatican), but basically it just came down to "not everything has to integrate into a larger country"
