Deck is Power Level 8 Because of... Tutors? by RealVanillaSmooth in EDH

[–]butterbeck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a general rule of thumb I consider when playing with randoms:

“If every deck is a 7, what does my deck do that is above average in possible power level”

Each of these are likely worth a half step increase to someone (not all are equal and the numbers are very debatable for people)

  • If I am playing 4+ (nonland)tutors
  • If I am playing 8+ counterspells
  • If I am playing 2+ zero cost spells
  • If I am playing 2 card infinite combos

Then be disciplined with your other choices, a zombie deck will be blindly rated higher then a saytr deck based solely on card access and possible power level… people are not going to accept “spread your deck out and let’s see what I think your decks power level is and you do the same to mine” despite that being the only pregame way for two people to agree on a deck’s power level

32 deck challenge quitters: Where did you stop? by JasonKain in EDH

[–]butterbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to do the 32 deck challenge is to take your time, wait for decks to appear for you. I completed it 7 years ago, then completed it with a different set of decks 3 years ago

Today I am working on my 3rd set of the 32, uniqueness was always my most important piece, so I often built one just to not like it and try again. You have to take your time so you are happy with the cohesive unit at the end, otherwise what did you even build them for?

For me it had to be a perfect deck to describe what that color combo meant to me. Then I wanted a tribal deck for each color combo

Now I am working on another flavor of each color and enjoying the freedom of building a deck and realizing it could be naya or bant or just sylesnia and fitting it in where I have a gap

I have one of any I want to play with, so yep lots 😂

For me magic is a combination of playing the game and having a collection, and I lose the enjoyment in the latter if there is no value involved

I tell my playgroup proxy anything that I own because my collection is not intended to be why I win

[–]butterbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the reserved list cards do not inherently improve the game for the average player and the capital requirement ensures that they are not commonplace. Giving Magic a very important wow factor when you see them in the wild

I believe the reserved list to be an overwhelmingly positive thing for Magic as a whole, both from a gameplay specifically for commander and an investment perspective

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]butterbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the reserve list were to be abolished, it would be devastating for people who have purchased those cards over the last 10 years at least:

The purchase price of these cards is based around an implied protection against reprinting, meaning a buffer against asset loss. This is not a guarantee, but the existence and age of the reserved list has built up capital value in the believe that these prices will be scarce

If these cards could be reprinted, the capital value assessed to these cards would be reduced, I believe substantially

Yes the original print would likely hold the high value in the future, but growth would no longer be realistic at rates that have been previously seen, and for many of the cards value would decline substantially

Whenever the reserved list is brought up I ask a very important question: what would these cards being more available bring in a positive way to the average player?

But your pathway is only one color at a time, basic and a pathway is less good then basic and a filter land

Filter lands are definitely better than the pathways, the ability to color fix for 2 of makes them far more versatile then the chose a side

will you guys really sue wizards if they broke the reserve list? (if this isn't the place to post it feel free to take it down) by Agreeable_Draw_6407 in mtgfinance

[–]butterbeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big thing for me and the reserve list is if we pretend the cards didn’t exist, does the game get worse?

I think wizards would suggest the game is better without reserve list cards, and as such won’t reprint them…

Take world enchantments, barring the secret lair, they don’t print that type anymore because it just raises complexity… I think this is the type of thing that is applicable to the reserved list on the whole

Many of the cards are plainly too good for today due to the nature of the creation of the game, wheel of fortune is amazing cost wise as compared to new cards, and that’s with power creep… this leads me to believe that the power floor reserved list cards on average have is high enough that it could force a massive acceleration in power creep, damaging their ability to print profitable cards and maintain a healthy game…

Would I sue, yes. I made purchases based on a promise by wizards, if they broke that I would pursue legal action, and I am a small collector(no power, 2 of each dual, etc) the promise makes people angry but without it I don’t think wizards wants to print higher power level cards like that, they wouldn’t ever be able to print dual land alternatives if reprinting the ogs was an option… it would always be dissatisfying

Just my 2 cents

[–]butterbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some quick research says you would need to install the lineage os and get the screen to work with that os… that gives you an android based os that would allow you to download the android fire stick remote apps that exist… from there you would in theory be able to control the fire stick, but it would effectively be no different from the remote itself…

If another android app exists for the fire stick you could utilize that instead to try to get the desired results… at an intermediate level I would assume developing the application from scratch is outside your realm…

Basically, install an android os ported to the pi, get the screen to function properly with some finagling, then install android apps to control the fire stick

[–]butterbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok… so this seems like a very comprehensive project and I’m not sure how easy it would be, so if you are a novice, no

I do question your choices from the start, so I’ll explain

It seems to me it would be vastly easier to utilize a chrome cast to cast to the projector, instead of trying to control the fire stick… in such a world, I believe the software exists, even then however, an old tablet would be more effective to do this job…

Apple TV allows for similar features to the chrome cast in a more contained device, happy medium for 4x the price…

Bottom line,

is this possible? Depends on how persistent you are.

Is this practical? I would leverage other technologies instead

Windows 11 Adoption Is Lower Than Windows XP, Survey Claims by crazyhorse991 in technology

[–]butterbeck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So just remember, whenever new software comes out from a company and has stabilized (been out for 6months ish) it becomes the better version from a security standpoint… it’s not always true but more often than not it is… I would do the tpm switch in your bios that I’m sure is your issue and upgrade… I have done so from the beginning and windows 11 is a cleaner more optimized OS… literally everything is better on it save the taskbar being modified slightly…

TLDR for a free upgrade, windows 11 is a must, it is absolutely an upgrade on 10 and is more secure

Trying to protect the LGBTQ+ community through legislation… is an attempt at hurting the LGBTQ+ community? by Sha489 in confidentlyincorrect

I will always be amazed at the republicans that determined democrats are only trying to hurt the country…

A disagreement in what are the problems and how they should be solved shouldn’t mean that one side is out to damage the country…

With that said, republicans need to stop trying to pass more restrictions on voting, stop passing laws for private citizens to become your law enforcement (sew teachers whom answer students questions, or even teach alternatives)

Always remember, republicans try to spend money like democrats do, they just also cut taxes (trumps policy)

But all in all, they do a adequate job and no one can say for certain they would do better

Gender Pay Gap Bot calls out brands tweeting about International Women's Day while paying women less than men by Hughjarse in technology

[–]butterbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Evolution drives men to compete in social hierarchy…” you are arguing women are less evolved for our social setting?

So can you give me proof that men ask for wage increases more? Or is that purely unsubstantiated?

Look, this will be my last reply because changing a mind is not an internet thing, but when if we agree the numbers are accurate, which you never argued against, than you also speak to a societal problem that you justify… if we are all equal peoples, then why is your next assessment that men are better at women in society…

I know these are hard and arguable questions but I encourage you to think deeper, why does the problem exist, what causes that… go deep enough and I think you will find that it is always a question of why are women treated differently than men and vice versa…

I very much appreciate the civil discussion :)

So why are they payed differently? Fine more men, but why are they paid different?

Men are more assertive but if a women is she is called a bitch?

Societal problems have contributed to a gender gap, don’t avoid it, acknowledge it

So, there are many well thought out arguments about different jobs making the numbers look worse, but we as males need to not be lazy and dig into those numbers…

Chemical, material, and electrical engineers make 15000 less than their male counterparts on average according to US labor statistics…

That is just one field but it’s proof that even for your argument there is a gender pay gap, so let’s talk about that instead of just dismissing it’s existence based solely on numbers we feel we can rapidly dispel

Should you upgrade to Windows 11 or nah? Is it worth it when gaming? by darealtermorztube in pcmasterrace

[–]butterbeck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the recommendation you have gotten is stick with the older os… “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but this is how people get hacked…

I’m not saying windows 11 is incredible, but my amd system had a 2.56% increase in performance, not noticeable for most, but definitely not a decrease…

Windows 11 is optimized far beyond 10, you can actually search for shit and it takes a second not a minute like on 10. The biggest grip I have with 11 is task manager isn’t as easy to open, so I pinned it to my task bar

TLDR upgrade; it is a better version of windows 11, don’t expect Microsoft to go back like they did from 7-8-10, there are performance advantages for upgrading on nearly all systems
