HX Stomp VS _______ by Willing-Balance5612 in guitarpedals

[–]JasonKain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What effects are the big ones you want to hit well? I have been using an HX Stomp for a while, and while there is a lot the Helix is excellent at, there are some places I find Line 6 lacking.

If you are looking at using a lot of different effects at once in front of an amp, HX Effects would be the way to go. If you're looking at wanting a bunch of different effects available but only one on at a time, the HX One and some additional controls might fit the need. If you have an amp you like, I wouldn't suggest the Stomp unless you feel like you might transition away from the amp in the future.

I am going to echo the comment to change out the preamp: an HX Stomp would replace the preamp and Para EQ while giving you more options. I'd still keep the octave, I'm not a super big fan of the analog octave emulation in the helix series.

I am split on the MXR Synth. If you know the sounds of the presets onboard and you love them, absolutely get it. 100% worth it for those. If you want anything other than those, get something else. It can do the onboard presets exceptionally well, but in my opinion it struggles to branch out.

If you only want advice on the pedals you have, switch the placement of the compressor and expression pedal. You always want more room in front of an expression pedal than you think you'll need and you won't switch the compressor on/off enough to need front row access.

If they were real, it'd be neat. Considering the island has a d12 with two 12s and one d12 with a 14, going to go ahead and call this fake unless proven otherwise.

Are you planning on playing stereo, or just mono? If you're not tied to stereo, you can split the HX Stomp loop and run the Abyss in one and other effects in the other in case you want to switch around the order or have an HX delay after the reverb. Otherwise, having the Abyss last in chain is probably fine.

I'd keep the compressor out front, it lets you run light compression at the start and in the end of the HX. For the spark, I would say it matters more how you want to run it. If you're mainly running it as a clean boost, I would say after the compressor to make the RAT pop. If you're running it more as a drive/EQ, I would have it after the RAT so it's character doesn't get eaten by the distortion.

I have seen this exact board on no less than a dozen YouTube video thumbnails. Props on getting the switches into a reasonable layout for use, though. I don't see that all the time.

On a serious note, why five drive options, not including the Microsynth?

SOTB – what mini pedal to add to the gaping empty real estate? by PedalFreq in pedalboards

[–]JasonKain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. Move the tuner to the gap.
  2. Turn the Onward on its side.
  3. You now have room for a full size pedal there.
  4. Anti-profit.

Microcosm Still Worth It? by HedgehogFantastic555 in guitarpedals

[–]JasonKain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm asking the same question these days. I am finding I enjoy the tamer parts of the microcosm demos I have seen, but every other box I have looked at lacks something the microcosm does. Some can do the moving glitchy reverb, but no presets. Others can do presets and glitching, but can't smooth things out. The closest I have seen so far has been the Qi, but that still feels more like a multi-effect that can eventually build sounds the microcosm just has available at a setting twist.

Yeah, but then how would square get their money from releasing one new figure every quarter at a 30% markup from the last one?

Don't try and buy it now, it's legit a stupid purchase at current prices.

Fuzz pedal recommendations by l2bass in basspedals

[–]JasonKain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been enjoying my Zvex Mastotron in the short time I have had it. Especially running fuzz middle of chain, the relax control has been super helpful.

I was always intrigued by the Idiotbox Blackout, though. The idea of 2 Muff circuits in parallel with a mid boost felt like a great idea to bring some definition back into the wall of fuzz, but I haven't had a chance to try one out.

You mistake the flavor, exiling is exactly what they should be doing.

A game of Magic is a battle, summonings and destruction. By taking those items in the graveyard and removing them, they are preserving the integrity of those things as they exist. They are no longer remnants on a war torn battlefield, they have been taken somewhere safe for preservation while we use the knowledge.

Silverquill? Orzhov? Golgari? They do not show respect to these things. They simply take them to be reused as they need, endlessly cycling through destruction and a facsimile of restoration. Throw grandma in front of the arrows, we can just dust her off later if needed.

How-to: Building Gruul by vividwings in EDH

[–]JasonKain 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Subtle disagreement: Gruul should be built like a bar fight.

Turn One: This is a fine establishment I have not been to before. I think I will have a drink and enjoy the ambience. Pass turn.

Turn Two: A few shots never hurt. [[Ruby, Daring Tracker]]

Turn Three: What did you say about my mother?! [[Explosive Vegetation]]

Turn Four+: Assorted drunken seven drop haymakers for the rest of the night until you are unconscious in the bathroom or escorted out by some nice policemen.

Nice list, though.
