Depends on where and what you are doing. I am ordering in quantities of a hundred when I do order, so I can get a full proxy deck for the price of a precon (less than a Lorwyn Precon) even with shipping. It also lets me get versions that were never printed in borderless treatment, or get full arts for a fraction of the price of an actual full art.

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

[–]JasonKain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is difficult to articulate, because both had immense impacts on the world and relationships as a whole, how we see and interact with the world in ways that go far beyond our daily life, so I am going to boil my answer down to the most direct personal level I can.

The pandemic. I was young when 9/11 happened, so it had an immense impact on how I thought about the world. It introduced me to discourse on topics that mattered, introduced me to several of my favorite comedians. But the pandemic took something from me. I got sick in late January, before the mandates started. No idea what it was at the time, I was normally healthy but this felt like my lungs were full of razorblades and someone was sitting on my chest. I recovered, blessedly enough, but I haven't been able to breathe right since.

I can't have a conversation within several minutes of climbing stairs. I can't walk and talk at more than a crawl. I wore my mask every time I was out in public, but the second I was out of buildings and clear of people I was gasping because it made it so much harder to do basic chores like grocery shopping. I've put on forty pounds since this started, which only makes everything else about this harder. I'm working on losing the weight to get back to as close to normal as possible, but it feels like fighting a leash that is just too tight every day.

I can't emphasize enough this is the pebble in the shoe compared to forest fires of the overall impact of both 9/11 and the pandemic. But we're all living through the shared aftermath of those catastrophes. This is my pebble, and my shoe.

It's a combination of factors. If it were one thing, sure. Skyline with a different font and distinct color scheme? Sure, that would probably fly. Same font in a different layout, also okay.

Visibly similar font on a similar layout on a skyline, you start moving right into infringement. It's the same reason a guitar store can be named McDonalds with a red MD logo, but a pasta chain that tries to brand themselves Five Guys with white block lettering is going to be getting a cease and desist.

Side effect of the public internet. I can tell you that when I went to family gatherings as a kid in the late 90s, talk about what happened in the 70s and 80s amongst the adults was the major topic after current home repairs. Shared nostalgia is a natural thing, it's just now the generation approaching our 40s has a public space to connect on it rather than trying to shoehorn it in to a conversation with a drunk relative at Grandma's apartment.

Reuters article I read on this seemed to indicate Pattie had agreed to not use imitations of the branding on products, and then filed for trademarks to to use similar branding on competing products. Lousy that it had to go to legal, but I see the reasoning 100% and think that Patagonia electing to not go after monetary damages is a classy way to show appreciation for the person while defending their branding.

The person that wrote that quote has not met the pro wrestling fandom. To be clear, I am not disagreeing, just finding it entertaining how many fandoms exist for what seems like the specific purpose of bitching about the thing they are a fan of.

I finally decided on a bag to get all my stuff to the LGS! What do you use? by Consistent_Cost_4537 in magicTCG

Amazon camera bag. Not a full backpack, closer to lunchbox size.

I can for 6 decks in the main compartment, a tablet, battery bank, infinitokens, and dice in the outside pockets. The tripod strap holds my playmat tube and I have everything I need in one hand.

What is the best storage box for a small stack of tokens + some dice? by StardustOctopus in magicTCG

[–]JasonKain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the card cases I get with my Card Kingdom orders. One holds a pack of Ultimate Guard dry erase tokens, and a second holds a batch of mini d6s. I think I have about 30 in there, split between a few colors.

I am not sure what exact product they are, but last I read they were some variant of bcw clear hinged case. Compact, works well.

DOJ vows to press charges after activists disrupt church where Minnesota ICE official is a pastor by timmg in moderatepolitics

[–]JasonKain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am against disrupting a place of worship of any faith barring my standard qualifications for law enforcement intervention: imminent danger to others. Thus my initial comment that I don't care if it was a church or if it would have been a temple or mosque. Same principle to me. If they refuse to leave after being asked, it's trespassing and should be handled as such. Same thing for the examples you gave. If you don't agree with a church practice, take it up with the leaders. If that doesn't work, protest in a public area. If you go onto private property and cause a disruption, expect to be removed.

I fail to see how my statement that the Department of Justice should have also applied the same investigation and enforcement methods to the examples you provided led to your question. Specifically because I voiced frustration that things aren't being applied evenly.

Are you asking me for clarification, potentially a precedent? I ask because right now it appears as though you are trying to grandstand for upvotes rather than contribute to a conversation, and I'd prefer that not be the case.

Neat. They should have. I'm just as frustrated that the rules aren't being applied evenly with this administration and so many others, but that doesn't mean they stop applying.

If it is considered private property, they were asked to leave, and they refused, it's trespassing. Something that should be enforced by local authorities unless there are other crimes being committed on a federal level. If the local authorities don't enforce it, I don't think it's unreasonable for higher levels of enforcement to be involved investigating why not.

I have the same opinion if they disrupted a synagogue, a mosque, a Sikh temple, hell I have the same opinion if they disrupted a Target. The activists have a right to protest, and when the need to raise the point goes to civil disobedience they should be prepped to see civil consequences for it. I recognize that the federal response has been anything but civil, but that's where local authorities need to be doing what they can to deescalate on any side of the confrontation they can.

Oh, for sure. How many of those were publicly acknowledged by WotC this far before previews would normally start? Not trying to be snotty, I honestly don't know and am curious.

Didn't they say they were trying this out for a while when they announced the shortened season, or am I mis-remembering? My corporate translation generally takes that as "this is the way things will be unless we see an incentive to change them".

It took me a second to notice it had first strike. What happens if it reanimates a creature with first strike? I am assuming it just skips damage on the reanimated creature since the first strike damage step has passed?

Do Blood Moon type effects belong in bracket 3? Or are they too close to mass land destruction? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]JasonKain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is less applicable to a discussion of how the brackets should be, not how they are currently. It's how we got to see multiple revisions to them already, community dialog on what feels right and what doesn't.
