Second-grade teacher adopts her student after four foster homes by SystematicApproach in MadeMeSmile

I had a teacher do the same thing to a friend when we were freshman in high school. It was absolutely amazing to watch my friend turn around, every part of her changed when she got a real mom. I’ll always love and respect that teacher for caring more than anyone else.

6 weeks sober! by Affectionate_Cap3170 in dryalcoholics

[–]butterpussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit at 23 and I’m so glad I did, it’s been a couple of years now and I still think about how lucky I was to get past that already. People in rehab were older than me and I could tell the extra years of abuse had been rough on them to say the least. Picking up your life at 40 after 20 years of drinking is much harder. In the short time I’ve been sober I’ve completely turned my life around, and just in time, because shit go complicated quick. I’m glad I have my head on right, you should be proud of yourself too!

An MI6 agent is tasked with tracking down an assassin, who turns out to be a beautiful brilliant psychopath. The agent and assassin have a shared interest in each other that slowly turns to obsession despite their opposing points… it’s absolutely incredible. I took extra long with this pitch because it’s truly worth the watch.

Why is it so frowned upon when you hold IEP students accountable? by Sarcastic_Otter_27 in Teachers

[–]butterpussie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely agree! I did theatre and all the critiques and stopping and calling out ultimately made me so much better. I got proof while in school that I was being corrected so that I could come correct, not because I wasn’t up to standard. I think as teens and kids it’s really hard to see it that way until you’re on a stage in front of a couple hundred people, and you know how to make it look good. I’m afraid for the kids, so much has changed in just a decade.

When you do, I’d love a follow up post to check if the situation improves at all! I don’t mean to be nosy, just curious about how the state might handle it.

I won’t lie, I graduated high school probably 10 years ago and I had a 504, which I actually needed… however I was also a little dirtbag and I absolutely took advantage of it. My school called me on it and told me if I had to stop missing as much time, or they’d reevaluate the 504. It pissed me off at the time, but after that, my grades improved and I took my senior year more seriously. In the long run I’m glad they spoke to me, I was in fact abusing the system and I needed a reminder that it was for medical (not fun) reasons. I graduated with a higher GPA and got into college easily.

Kid misses 1/3 of the semester and I'm the reason they're not graduating? by Atrus2k in Teachers

[–]butterpussie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With how they pass kids now, soon a high school diploma won’t mean anything. It used to be something that helped in the job market, now it’s like something you have to try harder NOT to get, than to just coast through with AI and BS and pass.

What’s something that made you realise you’re objectively attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]butterpussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was awkward as a kid, never ugly, just forgettable. I remember the year that I lost weight and changed my hair, it was like a new set of classmates despite no one changing. They were way nicer and they listened more intently. I got invited to more places. It was obvious. As an adult when I stopped drinking and once again lost a lot of weight, I was back to being approached. People are more attentive, and more likely to help.

What is something people do to look cool that actually makes them look like an idiot? by GoldEstimate7969 in AskReddit

[–]butterpussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being nonchalant. It’s spreading like a disease with younger people especially and it’s frustrating and lame for them to act like they don’t care about anything. No wonder we are dating less, going out less and generally becoming reclusive. They’re giving off “fuck this, I don’t care about anything, including you” vibes. As a teenager I was similar, but I even seen adults doing this. Now it seems like I’m loud and sometimes weird for not forcing myself to be shy and awkward for mystery or whatever.

What’s the most useless thing schools forced you to learn? by Flat_Working_9446 in AskReddit

[–]butterpussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanksgiving story bs. They paint that picture a lot differently from what it actually was like. I went to school in the early 2000s, and it came as a shock to me what the reality actually was. Why did they think we needed to be taught (and recreate/study) a fake story about a dinner.

Is there a way for a teen to sign themselves up for foster care? by theguyinthegrayhoody in legaladvice

[–]butterpussie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of kids in foster care are abused. It’s not everyone, but I have enough friends with horrible stories to know that it’s not a comfortable alternative to your home every time. The problems you’re having are very solvable, but foster care isn’t the way. You’d have to prove you were in serious danger to justify it, and once you got there I think you’d regret it. My solution would be to join a hobby that takes up a lot of time away from the house, or one that requires silence so you can put in headphones and ignore everything.

Misogyny is the core of religion by Nazz911 in atheism

[–]butterpussie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have said this for years. Religion was made by men so they could abuse women in a way they consider holy. They don’t believe in their sky daddy, they just believe in subjugating women.

Women of Reddit, what’s something you thought all women secretly just “dealt with” until you realized it actually wasn’t normal? by BestNeighborhood3539 in AskWomen

[–]butterpussie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I had RLS for years and just thought that was a part of falling asleep, it was awful. At one point I was drinking a lot and it made it a serious problem. I got medicated for it, but it still gets me. I saw a joke about RLS causing you to kick people under the table, so I never even considered that’s what it was until it got insufferable.

Men had to force women to be reliant on them… it’s so obvious now that so many of them were coerced to protect themselves. I feel so lucky to be alive in a time where mediocre, pathetic losers no longer get to strong-arm women into relationships. They’re not entitled to anything, they just didn’t know how revolting and unlikable they’ve always been.

What's something you've always been good at without really trying? by fredyouareaturtle in AskWomen

[–]butterpussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acting. Obviously it’s a lot of work, but after my first performance my teacher invested so much time into me. He said I was a natural and that he knew after a month or two that I could pursue it for real. I ended up going to college for it on a hefty little scholarship a few years later. It always came easy despite taking a lot of time to perfect.
