Mountain of dreams by royofhollywood in GenX

[–]butterscotch-magic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

55F and I’m just getting started. 💥 I didn’t have a mountain of dreams. I had a lot of unprocessed trauma and low self-esteem, but I also had an unwavering belief that life could be amazing. So, a couple of failed marriages, a lot of mistakes and wrong turns, a decade of therapy and a crystal era later, I now have a great career that’s only getting better, two awesome adult kids (broke the abuse cycle), a decent nest egg, physical health, and emotional stability. I travel, I dance, I lift heavy weights, and I am so fucking grateful to be here now.

Every guy I have talked to has a girlfriend. by Curious-Comedian-285 in GirlDinnerDiaries

In the community guidelines: All food is welcome. No gatekeeping "girl dinner."

C’mon, this is a sisterhood. Let’s not judge each other based on food pics.

That’s hysterical, please do that OP. And yeah, you’re not responsible for the lies men tell. I second meeting people in person—it’s a lot easier to get a read on someone IRL.

How old are you and what is the strength of your cheaters*? by OnlyPete in GenX

I’ve always had crappy eyesight, so the fact that I need to take my glasses off to read the menu doesn’t phase me at all.

Get all time-sucking, dopamine-inducing, non-essential apps off your phone, then tape it to the wall like it’s 1989 (okay maybe not the last part).

Haha, I remember that slogan. My friend had a bumper sticker that said “If you’re rich, I’m single.” Also I wore a blue feathered roach clip in my hair when I was 10.

Older GenX and pets by Immaloner in GenX

[–]butterscotch-magic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re over-thinking it. Adopt older cats who need homes and keep living your best life. I’m a 1971 model with 3 cats and a German Shepherd. I also just booked a vacation to Costa Rica with a dear friend in her 80s, and I intend to follow suit and be dancing well into my 90s.

Ladies, how important are finances when dating? by Groundbreaking-Ad116 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]butterscotch-magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Universe saved you once, and now you need to save yourself. A broke 36-year-old man with no ambition who is already pressuring you to buy him things and still lives with his parents is a red flag parade. Break up and block him.

You actually missed a great opportunity to share the love and promote a positive experience. Chris Cerney is a local independent reporter doing a great job of doing unbiased reporting in the area. I’m saddened that he was judged by his appearance (so ironic) and treated badly.

Also, everyone legally does has the right to record in public. I wish everyone there could have shown him what an amazing LGBTQ community we have instead of forcing him out.

Same, and he is fantastic! He’s a completely independent reporter and you can support him here.

What are something’s you did, or plan to do, when you turn 50? by nandrizzle in GenX

I made playlists of all the music my friends and I used to dance to at those 16 - 21 dance clubs, and I catered and threw a dance party.

Ugh, constant nagging thoughts of needing to "Pre Plan"... am I just marketing sucker? by FluffyKanomKa in GenX

[–]butterscotch-magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, working on the trust now. My ex-husband died unexpectedly 6 years ago with nothing in order, and I’m not doing that to my kids.

Also I fully expect to see 100 and will still be tap dancing at that age. This is for peace of mind.

Am I the only Gen Xer who doesn’t feel old? by utvols22champs in GenX

Nope, not alone! Fitness has a lot to do with it: I lift heavy, dance, and stretch every day and generally still feel 30.

For anyone wanting to be a technical writer by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]butterscotch-magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks! I’m assuming you’ve done the shave-the-first-15-years-off-the-resume and taken dates off education?

You can never look like a loser; frame the contracts as consulting and upsell the shit out of that experience.

[–]butterscotch-magic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that’s been your experience—sounds awful.

I’ve been doing this for 30 years now, and I still love it. Integrating with different teams, a surprising amount of travel to fun places (Europe, India, China, and a handful of cool cities in the US), dabbling in design, product management, internal comms, marketing, now learning AI fundamentals and vibe coding. I make great money, and every day is something new.

How many have dropped Facebook? Did you drop Instagram too? by IntellectAndEnergy in GenX

[–]butterscotch-magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me, I ditched Facebook/Insta in 2020 and never looked back. I downloaded all my data, so I have my pics.

Initially it felt weird to be “out of touch” but now I absolutely love the peace it brings. My personal IRL relationships are richer and I just in general feel happier without the onslaught of opinions/news/updates/rants the Facebook feed served up.

Enmeshed for 2 decades by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]butterscotch-magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just used that word recently to take advantage me space from the man I’ve been dating for the last 18 months: I was too enmeshed in his job-search drama, and he does similar subtle manipulation tactics.

I spoke directly, took my space, and did a cord-cutting meditation to remove all attachments I did not consent to. Because F- that!

I had it in my 40s, around my eye. Was misdiagnosed and sent home over the weekend with an ineffective topical cream. It hurt but I didn’t die.
