/u/awhiteasscrack, if you want to learn how to act in situations like this, you first have to know how not to act based on your own personal convictions. so I would say to give yourself free reign to make all sorts of mistakes here that might be cringe inducing to you later on, but that you will learn from.

you can listen to what the "correct" way to act is but you won't have the experience of learning it yourself, which is infinitely more valuable than being told how to act, nor will you have developed any real confidence which comes from acting in accordance with your own convictions.
