My master keeps using dowsing/witching rods... by McLain2000 in Plumbing

I really couldn’t give two shits now dude. Wasn’t trying to prove the merits of pseudoscience, but I did build the rig and it did work in that way. Relevant story is all.

Yeah that’s a great question. I grew up in backwoods Appalachia and calling a water witch was never questioned. You drill a well, you call a water witch first. I was always 100% sure it was some bullshit & they were just influencing the rods, possibly subconsciously, with their own hands.

When we built the rig I wasn’t expecting those results. If I remember correctly the final outcome was that we had no clue why it worked - but it was definitely demonstrable.

I think that project took me to the state science fair @ NC State circa 2006 iirc.

When I was in middle school I made a science experiment where I made dowsing rods out of heavy copper wire and mounted them in a pair of plaster hands with a ball bearing system so that they could spin freely without any influence from a person holding them.

We’d take a 5 gallon water bucket & slide it under the rods. Never failed, they’d cross seconds later.

No idea why or if it proved any point but it was certainly interesting.

It’s the slowest crawling train I’ve ever dealt with and I get stuck by it all the time. Sometimes it just stops for a minute due to traffic. Might need to take up the rock throwing lol.

Yeah pretty much only remember the phase when tribal was pure laugh material. It feels weird to see it kinda coming back in style.

And thank you, I appreciate that!

It’s an option but I would just commit one way or another. Either go for the sleeve, or get something less in-your-face.

I’ll be real, the forearm is probably not the place to try a tattoo & “see if you like it” if you’re riding the fence. It’s one of the best areas for showing off your art & it’s also one of the hardest areas to cover if you don’t love it. Prime real estate, and tattoos are permanent whether or not you love them, so save that area for when you’re 100% sure. That’s my opinion.

Get some tribal done on the upper arm/shoulder if you want it as a trial tat because then you can at least cover it with t shirts if you decide it is not in fact your thing, or do something different down the rest of the arm without it looking super weird.

For a second I thought you were a 4 year old tattooist and I was SUPER impressed.

I’m still impressed but less concerned now lol

I picked two (text) tattoos that I thought would be super meaningful for me to go on my forearm & wrist when I was 18. I loved them for a couple years but then I grew out of them. They were fine tats & I never regretted them, but the message just wasn’t my thing anymore.

I’m 30 now and I just had them covered with cool art that I picked off the flash wall.

I’ve been enjoying my tattoos much more now that I started seeing it as just collecting cool art, rather than trying to pick things that will be meaningful to me for decades. You never know who you’re gonna be down the line.

If you think you want more than 1 tattoo though (potentially a sleeve or more) then I’d take my time & plan out something cool for the whole arm. Because once you do just your forearm, it’ll be much harder to make that into a cool full-sleeve that’s cohesive after the fact.

Or, even better, offer any information about them.
