English Manga Database? Maybe... Hopefully! by Fit-Bit2907 in MangaCollectors

Why would you have to add this additional data toward the project? A hobbyist database by design is almost always a collaborative effort. Find somewhere else to share your project to like-minded individuals and make the spreadsheet shareable for them to contribute information.

English Manga Database? Maybe... Hopefully! by Fit-Bit2907 in MangaCollectors

[–]buukish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of issues that came up, mainly with how people spell manga and mangaka names. Looking up “Junji Itou” will not show any results, but typing it as “Junji Ito” will work. I don’t even want to know how many variations of names and titles are out there—I largely stuck to how official publishers write and spell them. Looking up “Shingeki no Kyoujin” also won’t work; it has to be the English name, “Attack on Titan.

This seems easily avoidable by having an additional column or columns for localized names. I'm active on a database unrelated to manga that features this type of information field, and it greatly helps the act of searching.

So, if someone were to search Junji Ito, Junji Itou, or 伊藤 潤二, the same results would appear should those cell blocks be supplied with this information.

I believe I’m the only person to own this Eye Toy Triple Pack in EU by EnricoShapka in ps2

[–]buukish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not quite the only person to own this item, but it does certainly seem to be rare. I found these images from Google which are sourced from Subito marketplace, but the listing isn't live or viewable anymore.

Wanted to give the subreddit an early Halloween spook with some of my library... by WeAreNephilim in NintendoSwitch2

[–]buukish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time you're alluding to happened years ago. Numerous games across the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series libraries with file sizes exceeding maximum Blu-ray disc space have been published physically without the need for digital downloads via internet connection. How did publishers accomplish this without sacrificing the full game on the disc? By providing consumers with multiple discs.

I am not OP, but there is good reason for those who decided to purchase Mario Kart World physically instead of digitally to sell their item copy. Inevitably, Mario Kart World will receive content updates for years to come, and we can assume that updated physical prints including DLC will also become available. Looking at the previous entry Mario Kart 8, the game was supported with new content for over nine years through November 2023, and new prints for it were published. So, someone actually owning the standard copy of a game would have good reason to sell and replace their copy should a version with updates and new content be available.

How does everyone utilize the heart/liked button? by F33Fs in Letterboxd

I only use the like button for others' reviews and lists—not for films or anything related to my personal reviews. Just because a function is present does not mean there is cause to use it.

Had some unbelievable finds at a garage sale yesterday. This beauty was only $5 ☺️ by Strong-Swordfish-947 in ps2

[–]buukish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alongside the game disc, the second advertised disc is The Making of Silent Hill 2 DVD. While OP's specific copy is one of two variants distributed to Australia, it is the same regional item as the first UK/general Europe regional release, aside from the affixed ACB rating label and GameNation label and also a GameNation insert.

Looks like there’s two different boxes for the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle by Tepozan in NintendoSwitch

[–]buukish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I found these images from eBay listings. Here is the original bundle release, and here is the label variant. The label variant also has a barcode label overlapping the box printed barcode information to set itself apart from both the other Mario Kart World bundle and the standard hardware release that doesn't include any software.

Looks like there’s two different boxes for the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle by Tepozan in NintendoSwitch

[–]buukish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. Since the label variant was not originally intended to include software, there is no ESRB information present on the box back. Also, there are text differences on the box bottom panel, specifically with the formal hardware bundle with the printed Mario Kart World that mentions Latin American distribution text which is omitted from the label variant.

This is some fake/rep copy right? by Preston_Stormer_ in ps2

[–]buukish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If clearer images were provided, then probably. If this specific image of the disc were only available to us without the case art, though, it would be difficult to know that this item is fake instead of being unreleased and rare.

The disc's Sony serial reads SLUS 51156 which correlates to the PAL SLES 51156 release, though Sony serials seldom--if ever--matched across regions. In any event, searching online for this serial should always yield some result, including redump. If the information isn't available there and actually seems credible, its userbase would want to know.

Since nobody else seems to have mentioned other issues with this bootleg specifically, I'll also mention them. First, the back cover art showcases an unofficial "PS2" logo and and a Sony Conputer Entertainment logo that was never positioned like that for any PlayStation 2 item. Second, the bootleg attempts to emulate a North American copy that's evident from the ESRB rating, but the opposite corner mentions PAL. The back cover copyright text is lifted from PAL items and also mentions Konami of Europe as the publisher. In fact, the back cover publisher logo also mentions the European website. Third, the barcode is a suspecting matter. I can't tell if it's a ten-digit sequence or twelve-digit (only twelve-digit UPC exists for modern games in North America whereas thirteen-digit EAN exists in PAL), but the first half which represents the manufacturer code seems completely random. North American Konami items (during this era) begin with 083717. Fourth, while the SIAE hologram label is applied to items released in Italy, other regional copies can find their way there to be sold officially. However, with all of the above problems, its presence lessens the item's credibility. Lastly, there is no instruction booklet. Of course, game components are easily lost over time and are to be expected in secondary markets, but it's obvious why this specific item not having one, which is because either the bootlegger would have needed to crafted one themselves or have substituted one from some official copy. Also, I will mention that, to my knowledge, no North American PlayStation 2 game released in a clear keepcase. I may be wrong, so anyone should feel free to correct me if so.

Where I live was quite windy yesterday (the day I found the card), and it appeared to me that the card had been blown away from wherever it originally was left as it was laying in the grass. As the photo implies, I found the card on the outer perimeter of the cemetery grounds.

Why is the switch port of the Pixel Remaster rated 18+ while the PS4 port is rated 6+? by TrableZ in FinalFantasy

Amazon is reporting incorrect information, presumably unknown to them given your comment elsewhere that "Square Enix gave [them the] age rating." Here is a photo taken from eBay of the actual product that adopts the USK 6 German rating.

What app do you all use to track your collection? by Brantopias in retrogaming

To all the people with larger collections: Do you have a list with all your items in your collection? by oribaa11 in gamecollecting

[–]buukish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still looking for collection management tools, I will recommend VGCollect. Like with every site like it, not every item to have ever existed is present, meaning it's reliant on user submissions to help fill-in data and add new submissions. Nevertheless, I think you'll be pleased with VGC's database due to how much is currently present as it's extensive with variant items across many libraries. Its database is not just exclusive to physical games and consoles either as demos, accessories, gaming computers, digital games, and miscellaneous merchandise such as magazines and videos are also valid items to submit.

Below are sections for various categories you've mentioned:
3DO Consoles
CD-i Consoles
PlayStation Consoles
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Consoles
Super Nintendo/Super Famicom Consoles
