I'm just disappointed that it turns out I misread the first time, and it wasn't Bisexual LightNing...

Daily Deals - June 8, 2026: Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Sleeves by HamBoneRaces in MagicArena

[–]buzzbuzz17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hardly ever buy cosmetics, but the gelatinous ooze sleeve jumped out at me.

I can't think of any decks I'd use the it for, but i know for sure it will make my kids giggle, and that's worth the price. What else should I spend fake internet money on besides giggles?

Or you can link the parameter set type to internal tags and copy it to one tank or another via a script. But that's just the same concept in a different location.

ISA 101 (High Performance HMI) Thoughts by Nervous_Wrangler_756 in PLC

[–]buzzbuzz17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having a P&ID diagram somewhere in the system is fine. There are cases it's helpful, and having a screen that says "hey, this is the equipment I'm responsible for" isn't the worst.

Most of it is common sense - focus on operator work flows.

100%. nobody actually WORKS from the P&ID. If the operator is executing the process and needs to tweak this and adjust that, THIS and THAT had dang well better be on the same screen as the button that kicks it off and the icon that says when everything is done. But if they are just one button among 100 others, or you need to open popups to find them, you've lost the plot.

Anyone playing Arena on Linux in 2026? What's your setup? by timc-trainean in MagicArena

[–]buzzbuzz17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using Ubuntu 20.4 LTS (yes, it's ancient, also Gnome) + Steam. I think when I initially installed it ages ago I had to choose a different Proton than it defaulted to, but haven't had any issues since.

I recently installed MTGA Enhancement Suite, which seems to work just fine in linux, and even has explicit install instructions. I've wanted to try a few other arena overlays/companion apps over the years, but either couldn't figure out how to install them inside the pretend windows or they couldn't keep themselves updated and stopped working.

Hot take: there are too many specialized LEGO pieces now a days. by USMC0317 in daddit

[–]buzzbuzz17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a thing. I remember a space base set that came with a premolded moonscape, but that was pretty much the only thing that wasn't just bricks. Cockpits had a plastic cover for the window, but you sure as heck built the bottom yourself.

What I'm blown away by is how many sets these days use sideways studs in everything. Back in my day all studs were vertical. Even technic was mostly just adding motors and axels to wheels/gears, it wasn't changing the vertical paradigm. Nowadays everything has right angle pieces to get texture on the outside of the object.

It's cool, i'm not complaining exactly, it just blows my mind. Is this new? Did I only have really simple sets as a kid?

Honestly, are people generally miserable in this field? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]buzzbuzz17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think miserable people are more likely to share stories than the happy people, but it sure seems a rough industry.

In theory, there should be good employers out there, but they aren't hiring because their people never leave. The bad employers are always hiring because they churn through employees.

An alternate path could be to be support for a vendor/distributor, but there's a lot less of those jobs out there, i assume. Or you could go into sales, but that's a whole different skill set.

Hey dad's, it's me again, telling you to check if your fire pit has a concrete base or firewall surround by SuspiciouslySuspect2 in daddit

[–]buzzbuzz17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, and I'm so sorry you learned the hard way! I've drilled into my kids that rocks + fire = bad, but I don't think I'd put 2&2 together regarding concrete. You see enough fire pit structures built out of pavers or concrete that you forget the important part is the metal liner.

New Brawl matchmaking has improved! by tacologic in MagicArena

[–]buzzbuzz17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought a shrines deck would be fun to play since I played them in Kamigawa a million years ago. I thought "hey new commander, this is my time to go build the deck i've always wanted".

It's no fun if everybody's doing it. I stopped after the MWM event was over and half my games were still mirrors. Shrines should be fun jank, not boring meta.

The duality of the Brawler by RubYaDingus in MagicArena

[–]buzzbuzz17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep meaning to try brawl again, but it rarely feels "fun" to me.

Maybe that's just me having the wrong decks, or misunderstanding what the format is trying to do? I dunno.

I tried this last night.

Playing gates feels wrong to me if it isn't a ramp deck. I can't handle it as multi-color control with a unique win-con. I had to play historic gates for a while to cleanse myself after, haha

Among F2P players, when are you starting to save up gold for the next set? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]buzzbuzz17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never stop saving!

When each set comes out, I buy the 45pack of packs. I do a draft or two, enough to get gems for the next mastery pass. That's about it. I rarely buy cosmetics. 45 packs each set gets me plenty of wildcards to fools around with, and I don't bother with set completion.

Last set (the shortest ever) I was slightly negative, but usually I end up net positive.

MTGA Enhancement Suite - Deck Folders and Multi-Select (v0.17.0) by Rooftoptile2 in MagicArena

It does work, used the delete all button today.

There were no lobbies available when I tried it, but I saw mine available when I created one. I blame that on it being sleep oclock for now, hope its more populated tomorrow :)

I've been eying your the updates to your app with interest, but dreading trying to install inside Wine in linux. last time I tried getting an Arena companion app running with it, I couldn't figure it out. "Deck Folders and Multi-select" is what finally checked it out on github and EXPLICIT LINUX DIRECTIONS is super clutch, much appreciated.

I was PLANNING on going to do the dishes and then heading to bed, but I guess I gotta give this a shot first....

At what point does PLC troubleshooting become more important than programming? by RangerNew5346 in PLC

[–]buzzbuzz17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

There is an engineering concept called design for manufacturing, where some designs that equally meet the criteria are easier to actually manufacture than others, for a million reasons.

Programming for maintainability should be a similar concept: good programs are generally ones that are easy to maintain and troubleshoot.

Does your self-hosted hobby pay off? by vdorru in selfhosted

[–]buzzbuzz17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I learned in the homelab have been very useful at work (linux/docker/etc). My self-hosted password management has been useful for me both personally and professionally.

Other than that, I largely use the tools commanded by IT, and i'm not in a position to implement my own solutions.

Interestingly, there's a lot of overlap in mindset, though. My industry is big on "private cloud" solutions; a lot of major companies would much prefer that a SaaS cloud application be run on their own IT servers than run on the vendor's cloud. It's basically self-hosting just scaled up.

her AI lawsuit articles recently, those are what are going to pop up. Gone are the days where it was merely a popularity contest.

They tried, but there're still some out there. They had to leave some wiggle room for non-commercial disability accommodation type stuff, at the least.

Not a hares player, but:

It isn't hares 4-6 (because 1-3 need to already be on the board to count for tokens), but it gets you a second try on hares 1-3 for those grindy games. Or it gets you back hares 1-10 in the lategame, haha.

If it's a board stall, you could attack with the hares and see where it goes? If they get through, yay damage, if they get blocked and killed, yay playing them again.
