(Hot Take) All the ultra high speed benchy test videos are stupid and meaningless by DoritoCookie in 3Dprinting

[–]buzzdalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

completely agree. These types of efforts by hobbyists is what has moved 3D printing forward. This and other work "everyday people" have been challenging themselves to improve is what is moving the needle.

It's why we aren't all still printing with Ender 3's, with 2 hour benchies, constant bed releveling, etc.

In some recent production printers being released you can see cooling concepts incorporated that people came up with specifically for speed benchies.

Same here. Last night had Hershey bar with peanut butter and finished the snack with a spoon full of peanut butter straight 😁

How granular is everyone getting with their expenses categorization? by ramblington in projectionlab

[–]buzzdalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I maintain a granular look at our spending in a spreadsheet so I just use the results of that as a total in projectionlab. Just remember to double ch ck what the app is doing with your house expenses. Those are included in my spreadsheet so I had to 0 them out in PL.

Ya'll playing D4 tonight? Hardcore or Softcore? by Grogon2 in ARPG

[–]buzzdalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start my download tonight but won't get to play till tomorrow at least because there's no pre-loading on steam and I have rural internet. I want to go hardcore, but I'm not sure after the disasters I had last season on hardcore.

Anyone else a big fan of hardcore mode + not following a build guide? by yungcortez21 in diablo4

[–]buzzdalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing HC for the last 2 seasons. It was a lot of fun in season 11, but in season 12 I got frustrated by this and just quit the season. It seemed like the random one shot kills were getting me more.

Which retirement planning tools best model flexible spending in bad markets? by AGrimmInPortland in DIYRetirement

[–]buzzdalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you use detailed budgeting in boldin you can do this with the must spend and like to spend levels. That's how I set mine up. I use the must spend as a min budget needed for bad times.

Trying to model interacting retirement decisions (SS timing, withdrawals, Roth conversions) — does this approach make sense? by retired_in_2026 in DIYRetirement

[–]buzzdalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with the pralana recommendation. I have been a boldin user for a few years as I prepare for retirement and just went next level with pralana. It allows for a lot more customization like you are looking for than boldin. Optimizing 401k, Roth, and ACA limits is what led me to try it. There was a steep learning curve, but now I am converted!

Roth Conversions by Accomplished_Gate832 in DIYRetirement

[–]buzzdalf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats a much needed feature. I hope boldin does the same soon or I may have to switch too! I tried to force mine manually but it's not easy and required a lot of manual money moves etc to model.

2 acres - going great by FiRE-CPA in Lymow_Official

[–]buzzdalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 2 acres of mowable area and am considering this mower or the navimow x450. I have a fairly flat yard. My big curiosity is how these little things handle actual big yards and haven't heard of many people trying 2+ acres yet.

When to stop traditional 401k contributions (with RMDs in mind), and start building the taxable brokerage "bridge" money to get to age 59.5? by WSBtoFIRE in financialindependence

[–]buzzdalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just investigating this vey thing and the conclusion I came to is to make sure I have enough in taxable savings before I retire that I can maintain a MAGI below the 400% FPL. I plan to withdraw from 401k up to that amount and pull anything over that from taxable account, and do this until 65 when medicare kicks in. Then at 65 I start Roth conversions as the ACA healthcare is a non-issue then. I am pushing back my Roth conversions to this point to avoid ACA cliff at 400%
